  1. Is the Sadao crossing still problematic for a border run with a visa exempt entry? Any updates?

You will probably be told you have to stay overnight in Malaysia in order to get one. You should be prepared to show at least the equivalent of 10k baht in cash when you enter.

This will be discussed with immigration upon exiting Thailand? Is it possible that one could be denied entry back into thailand even though the "ok" was given on the exit?

  2. Years ago I successfully asked an officer to "save" my tourist visa at BKK. Basically I did not write the visa number on the boarding card, but when I approached the desk, I came clean about the visa and politely asked him to stamp me in for 30 days as I wanted to reenter and use it later. This request was pleasantly granted without hassle. However, since then I have read it is policy NOT to allow that.

I did this a few times many years ago also, but recently have had no luck doing it.

  3. Sorry to bump an old thread, but this just happened to me when arriving at Don Muang.

I was told that I was allowed 6 entries within a year. The IO told me that I need to get a visa next time or else I would be blocked. He said that it came up on the computer that I had exceded the 6 entries. I only have 4 entries with 2 extensions in the last year. They are not back to back, nor have all my stays been the full 30 days. I've just been traveling around SE Asia for the last year or so.

Any new info on this obstacle?

  4. Being British myself, I hope they throw the bloody book at him.

Doubt it greatly....cops see this as a fight between sunnis and shias. Nothing of concern to peacelovin folk as ourselves.

Don't you believe it. The cops will see this as a chance to make some good money out of the farangs involved.

For instance, I should think that by now, fatty will be begging to be let out of the soi 9 cell and he will be let out...for a price, and it wont be cheap!

What would something like this cost to get out of jail?

  5. You would need to get a visa for Myanmar if you wanted to stay more than overnight.

Thai immigration is denying departure unless you have a valid visa for re-entry to the country. If you had a visa for Myanmar they would allow to leave without a Thai visa for entry,

So this all has to do with the Thai immigration conundrum? Myanmar allows 2 weeks stay on a border crossing without having to obtain a Myanmar visa(30day). So in order to satisfy the Thais one needs to spend money and time obtaining a Myanmar visa just to visit a border area even if it is for less than 2 weeks?

Lets say I had a multiple entry Thai tourist visa. Would I then be allowed across the border to visit for up to two weeks without having to have a Myanmar visa?

  6. Yes, it is allowed. But you cannot do it indefinately. Immirgation will probably question you after a few times and demand that you get a tourist visa.

Only plan to do it once. ie. 30+30ext & 30+30ext. Will outbound tickets and cash in pocket help to get the extension. At very least will they give a 7 day extension on the last one?

Are some immigration offices stricter than others?

  7. Are there limits on doing these extensions?

For example: Lets say I arrive in bkk for first 30 day visa exempt then do 1st extension at immigration office. At the end of that 60 days I travel to Laos(land border) for a few days then come back(land border) and get 30 days again, then extend for another 30 at immigration office. Is this allowed?

  8. We own a bar in Chiang Mai. A male chinese tourist is a guy with his hands behind his back. A chinese female tourist is holding hands with another female tourist. I think they do this to keep their money in their pockets. many chinese tourist here but never, never, never does one go into a bar. they might stop in front of the bar and look at the ladies but that is it.

So they don't spend money in your bar.  Big deal! Maybe your bar doesn't appeal to them.  Is it your average bar with a bunch of trashy thai hags in it?

  9. It seems like the fatca compliant banks will present any foreigner with a form to prove either us person or non-us person upon opening a new account despite whatever passport you hold. And, if you decide to fill out the form(proving us person or non-us person) and proceed in opening a new account you agree for the bank to disclose information to tax authorities and the IRS.
