  1. I ordered a Samsung 64GB SD memory card + OTG through them. Didn't arrive on time. Status always remained as "in processing". CS phonenumber is disconnected and customer inquiries through their contact form are not replied. Lazada is unreachable.

I was able to call the company actually selling the product and was informed that Lazada cancelled the order. This without informing me and without refunding me either.

Amazingly, without prior notice, one week too late, the product was delivered in good order. Guess what, the next day I got a message from Lazada telling me the order was cancelled as they could not confirm the shipping and that they will refund me once the product is found and checked (??????).

For me, Lazada never again. And I will only buy online after verifying the shop's CS phone is actually answered.

  2. How about acknowledging dyslexia exists in Thailand too and do something to identify the sufferers and provide them with special teaching aid.

None of the many teachers I've met ever heard of dyslexia, while all of them consider children who can't read/write either stupid or lazy.

Tone rules? Only foreigners know them. The system foreigners use (which fits on the size of a credit card), is not the system Thais use.

  3. Normally I would agree that staying away of the Internet about diseases is a sound advice, same as I think it is wise to get tested by a doctor.

Unfortunately reality about celiac disease is different. Without the net it's impossibly to acquire enough knowledge to adhere to a gluten free diet.

To get properly diagnosed, you'll also need some knowledge to verify if your doctor is performing the appropriate tests. Not that many doctors out there with enough knowledge about and will to test for celiac. Estimates are that only 15% of the potential celiacs are actually diagnosed.

I was misdiagnosed for only 35 years until I got the correct info on the Internet and went to a hospital specialized in celiac disease.

I do recommend to check the serious celiac patient association's websites. Every western country has one:

    -USA celiac.com

    -AUSTRALIA coeliac.org.au

    -UK coeliac.org.uk

    -etc

  4. Thailand is like paradise for celiacs. All traditional Thai food is gluten (and dairy) free.

Also additives in processed food are seldom derived from wheat like in Europe. Without being aware of it, I was living gluten free in Thailand and only had problems when traveling to Europe.

Having the genes (1/3 of Caucasian population) doesn't mean you will get celiac disease (only 1 out of 133). Children of celiacs have a 10% chance to develop the disease.

Many celiacs (especially in the USA) self diagnose, either due to uncooperative doctors or to avoid insurance exclusions.

About 50% of celiacs also have digestive issues with dairy, so cut both gluten and dairy for a while and check how you feel.

However, if you want to be officially diagnosed, once you are gluten and dairy free, it won't be possible until you go on a gluten challenge for 2-3 months again. Alternatively, you could wait a few years to be diagnosed, as less intrusive diagnostic ways are currently under development.

There are many forums on the Internet for celiacs where you can find all the answers to your questions.

I find a gluten/dairy free diet very doable in Thailand.

  5. Do you eat rare Thai beef? You can also get pork and fish tapeworms. The pork ones are the worst, but most people cook pork well.

I'd say the fish ones (liver flukes) are the worst. You don't notice them and they cause liver cancer. They are very easy to get rid off though with Biltricide. I've been given this medication as a precaution twice already.

  6. ....I'd start by eliminating both dairy and gluten. If that works then restart one of the two gradually, if it recurs you have your answer, if not then restart the second one and ditto.

You need to test both, as gluten intolerance very often comes with lactose intolerance. Finding out you have a lactose intolerance does not tell you that you are ok with gluten.

  7. IBS is the diagnosis that means "we don't know what is causing your problems".

Make sure they test you on gluten intolerance. I'm not sure doctors in Thailand are celiac aware, as in the past Thais hardly used to eat any gluten.

It is estimated that only 10% of the people suffering from celiac disease are diagnosed so far. IBS is a frequent misdiagnosis for celiac.

  8. do not argue here about the studies as it is done already among the scientists, let them handle that. This is not a science forum.

Google and you'll find as much pro's as con's about dairy. Up to each to decide which side to take.

Really don't see your problem about traditional Thai food as opposed to western food.

The topic is linked to celiac. Many more people out there who are not aware yet of their intolerance to dairy and gluten. Some might feel very nice on the Thai diet.

And then there are the people who switched to paleo or caveman's diet. They are happy with that dairy/starch free diet.

What's the big deal for people to try a diet different to what they are used to? Maybe the'll feel great, maybe not. Besides nobody is forcing you to do it, right?

So lighten up and enjoy life. You on your diet and me on mine. All others may choose whatever they want. I do not really care, I'm just telling what worked for me and offer it as a solution to others.

  9. I say introducing, because seriously have you ever heard of Sarita Colonia? She lived and died in the Peru of last century and is considered the patron saint of taxi cab drivers, bus drivers, prostitutes, transvestites, homosexuals, prisoners, illegal immigrants, general desperadoes of all kinds, and possibly thieves and thugs.

    ....

Sounds very Catholic to put the gays among these types of people...

They don't really want us to be protected by a saint. The want us to be cured or stop existing.

The holy year the pope refused to meet the gay representatives, I turned to Buddhism. Can't remember how long ago that was.

  10. It's not that simple 1 cal=1 cal.

    Carbs boosts insulin.

Besides on a low starch/sugar diet it is very hard to get too many calories.

Yes, BMI is a bad way to measure correct weight, also the range is far too wide. It only served to have an easy comparison.

Being gluten and dairy intolerant, I've decided to just eat the same as my Thai colleagues and as a result my weight and volume is in the same range as theirs.

One could argue any statement, making it a bit useless to post anything. However I've noticed Thai children eating a lot of Western food and getting fat. Also 90% of the farang in Isarn carry a big belly (they did not change their farang eating habits). Yet people sticking to a traditional Thai diet are not fat.

Gluten and dairy common in Western food have been proven to be unhealthy in some studies (please do not start on arguing this). Thai food is very low on gluten and does not contain dairy.

So, I would say, if one wants to lose weight, try it and see if it works. It worked for me, who knows, it might work for someone else too. No harm in trying, right?

I hope with this to close a rather pointless discussion.

  11. OK, a question from a new dieter

Do these so called "light " beers lower the calories, or just the alcohol content

    Singha Light lower alcohol (3.5%)

Chang Light lower calories (6% alcohol)

Of course you get the same result by putting ice in your beer, same as the Thai do.

  12. Have you noticed the increase in fat Thai over the past years?

That is because of being able to afford more deep fried and sugary Thai foods, rather than anything Western.

you mean like ice-cream, Lays, dairy fruit drinks, S&P, pizza, KFC, Coke among many others ... ????? That is what I see the children eating.

Of my 245 Isarn students, age 9-12, 8% is obese + about 40% is too fat.

That they have to drink Nestle milk at school now, in a country where 70% of the people used to be lactose intolerant, shows the power of the multinationals.

The ones sticking to Thai diet are not fat. Being gluten & dairy intolerant, I stick to a Thai diet too and I have a BMI of 20 (same as non-fat Thai men). BTW It's not eating fat that makes you fat, it's carbs.
