  2. hi, i am helping with a non-profit startup, they are trying to set up a house on land for the worker, and are in a very tight budget.

they want to get a propane gas cooker set up, and i want to know if there is any place that is particularly cheap for a cylinder and a regulator that any of you know of, right now, the local price is about 4000 thb for it, and they want to find it cheaper

  3. hey, i like edamame, and last year i remember seeing it a few times fresh from the markets, but so far being here this year, i havent seen it.

does anyone know when it is in season in chiang mai? it is available from makro frozen, but the fresh stuff is cheaper.

  4. hey, i'm looking for some good grape juice, not wine

just want some nice shit that isnt from concentrate, used to buy an fancy organic grape juice back home, not pasturized and not from concentrate, and it tastes like nectar

anyone know where i might find some?

  5. Hey, i am coming back to chiang mai at the end of the month, and i want to find somewhere i can buy red lentils from, i have in the past bought them for like 60 baht/300g from rimping and an indian store near muang mai, but i want to buy a more wholesale amount for a cheaper price, like 1kg, 5kg, 10kg, or 25kg bag

anyone know if its possible anywhere in chiang mai?

  6. i am coming back to chiang mai in february, and i want to stay at a better place this year, i have more income and i am wondering what is the best value apartment you have stayed at

really i just want something a little more than the basic 33 sqm bed and bathroom

not exactly asking for specific places, just want a general description and price you have paid for it

  7. Hey, i am out of chiang mai right now, but i want to have some flowers delivered to my girlfriend, i have looked online, and the prices i have found for delivery seem way overpriced compared to when i was there

Does anyone know any better options? 2000 baht for a bouquet seems ridiculous for chiang mai or thailand in general (especially since i want sunflowers only)

Instead we went to remote Guest Houses or we asked if we could stay with a Thai-Family overnight. This can be as adventurous and interesting as camping.

Yeah, this would be good too, but we would want some basic, simple sort of building vs a modern constructed cabin or something, we have visited another place where we got a wooden room, with bamboo frame and flooring

fang looks nice, potentially a litttle overdeveloped/busy, i think i will go there tomorrow and see what its like

  9. hey all, i am leaving chiang mai in 2 weeks, and i want to take my girlfriend camping before i go.

can anyone recommend anywhere, or anywhere i should look?

i think we would like to camp in nature, and near somewhere we can swim, either renting a tent, or bringing our own

    any suggestions?

    thanks

  10. Hi all, I was due to extend my visa today, got to the office and it says they are closed due to the Kings birthday

additionally, immigration is closed tomorrow and next day for the weekend.

i have heard that if your visa expires on a holiday or weekend, you can appear on the first day it is open with no fines and no problem , could anyone confirm this for me?

    thanks

  11. Hey all, I had this a few times back home, sometimes I would get a bag of rice that had an incredible smell and taste to it similar to popcorn , it was rare and seemed to vary by the batch, but it was the most incredible tasting rice I have ever had.

i have experienced it in basmati and jasmine, and a Australian brand I buy back home has this flavor too (koala rice), but it is very weak compared to what I have had

anywgo, given how much rice variety there is here, does anyone know of any rice that has the quality I'm looking for here?, currently I have tried pretty much every premium brand I can find, and none have any of that taste to them

    any ideas?

  12. Hey all, i have been looking for this... typically i am too lazy, or busy to prepare garlic/ginger for cooking and i have been looking for pre-minced garlic and ginger, i thought it would be alot more common, but i havent been able to find it at tops or rimping

anyone know where i can get some? or maybe if they are located in a weird aisle at tops/rimping

i have got some from an indian shop in small foil packets, but it's not very cheap

    thanks

  13. It's possible, but the times i have had the aroma/taste i am speaking of, the rice also had a far superior texture too, and it isn't consistently like that in the cheap brand i buy

(IE, one bag might have that great flavor, but the next will be bland), either way i see all over the place, people saying that high quality rice has a distinct strong aroma, and most rice has none whatsoever

when i was in thailand, the main rice i was buying was 300 baht for a 5kg bag of organic rice

does the benjarong stuff have an aroma/taste to it?

  14. Hi all, i spent 3 months in chiang mai this year, tried a few different rices, but i never found any that were truely fragrant/tasty as i can sometimes get back in australia (this is probably just down to brand or something?)

i wonder if anyone knows any brand that are truely fragrant/aromatic (and not just tasteless like most rice)

i will be back there next may, so i am asking in advance!!

    thanks

  15. You can fly out and back on the same day to get a new 30 day visa exempt entry (it is not a tourist visa) without a problem unless you have done several visa exempt entries already.

No need to go the embassy to apply for a tourist visa plus you might not get one in Kl if you did.

Cheers, so i literally just need to fly there, do whatever producedures i need to to get through the gate, then come back?

  16. hi all, i am staying in CM currently, and my visa is running out in 2 days, i have a flight booked for the 24th, and return flight booked about 6:30am on the 25th

basically i just want the 30 day entry visa (or 30+30) again, and i have talked to friends who just fly to KL, then fly back without doing anything at an embassy or anything like that

is my information right? or do i have to do something else? my plans ATM were to just fly there, sleep in airport, fly back and get the 30 day tourist visa again, and as my friends tell me, to get that, all i need to do is fly there, go through the gates, then fly back

but after looking on these forums, and doing some searches, i am concerned that i actually need to stay overnight, and visit the embassy??

    any advice? cheers.

  17. Yes, I was. Obviously you took away a cavalier tone from my post, but I honestly did not intend it that way. I did not suggest you should leave Thailand, that was someone else. I was hoping someone would offer an alternative FX transfer method, as they often do on these types of questions. that would meet your short term need. Good luck going forward.

Yeah i was quoting luap, not you tongue.png

  18. When you say large purchase, what does "large" mean? Hundreds of thousands or millions of Baht?

    about 25k baht

honestly, if you are worrying about 25k and exchange rate .........do not cancel your flight, go home

lol.. you serious? if i am losing $160 aud in the exchange and i can just as easily not, why wouldnt i ask about it? you think even someone who is more well off than me would want to just be like "well, i am losing $400 a month in the exchange but eh i wont bother trying to do it cheaper"

seriously, should i just burn 200 dollars and be like "well, if i couldnt afford to burn 200 dollars for no reason i shouldnt be in thailand"

    thanks for contributing

for everyone else, anyone know, would there be higher penalties trying to use my debit card directly which contains AUD, to make my purchase, versus withdrawing the money
