  1. So far I think I have all the correct documents for my sons passport application - his birth certificate in English, My birth certificate original, both parents passports, sons passport picture signed and verified by English friend, house book from Laos, the only thing I think i'm missing is a proof of address, what could I use for this? Does the Laos house book need to be translated?

A UK passport? The mother of my son only had her passport and a poor quality copy of her Lao house-book, no birth certificate, but there was no problem getting my son's UK passport.

Thanks, well, she has passport and a copy of Laos house book I guess we will have to just try our best with that. Off to get passport photos for our baby today, do you have any idea where they are available?

My son's photo was counter-signed by a teacher (UK citizen) I work with. It's not required as such, but not a bad idea to include a copy of their passport ID page too.

The mother of my son is from Laos and all I supplied for her, was a colour copy of each of her passport pages and a copy of her Lao ID card.

Just in the process of getting a passport for my half laos son in Bangkok, his mum has no id card just passport. Would this be sufficient?

  4. So yesterday I took a trip to Poi Pet to get a new 30 day visa exempt, I knew I was pushing my luck but due to certain circumstances I was left with few other options and I had to do a quick in and out same day visa run. Upon immigration checkpoint back into Thailand the officer shook his head in a suspecting manner and told me to go and take a seat for further interrogation...  I was questioned as to what I am doing in Thailand and basically whether I am working or not, I told him honestly that i'm not working and explained my circumstances to him, also provided some other evidence to back up my case.

He was satisfied with my story but handed me a form where I had to fill in my name, passport number and how much money I have. He then took my passport, did some further scanning of it and wrote something in it although of this i'm not sure. I was allowed on my way with the officer muttering something about 30 days..

Will this incident affect my chances of future successful visa attempts?

Savannakhet will be OK. Make sure you have printed bank statements to show them.

Many other consulates in the region (including, at least Penang and Phnom Penh) will not give you a tourist visa if you have a red stamp.

Great news, but for now I have to make use of my final land crossing exempt visa, a delayed bank transfer has left me with just enough money to do a quick in and out visa run to Cambodia tomorrow. I am hoping there wont be any complications with this, although been a couple years since i tried similar...

I would suggest a visa from Savannakhet as your safest bet, especially if you do not plan leaving Thailand any time soon. Overuse of visa exempt entries by air is not to be recommended, and you should keep your last visa exempt of this year by land for emergencies (like your visa denial in Vientiane which you should have expected).

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your post. This would be my 2nd visa exempt by land this year, so if I wanted to I could get more visa exempt entries but only by air? Being (presumably) my final land border exempt entry this year would Vientien or Cambodia / Savannakhet all be viable options? Sorry for my lack of understanding and thanks for your reply.

Not unless you have already done 2 of them this year at a land border crossing.

Also the Nong Khai crossing is a friendly one.

I got into Thailand with the 30 day visa exempt, do you think I will be successful in extending it for another 30 days at Chaeng Wattana? Apart from this I have one other visa exempt from June Last year.

  8. Thanks everyone, my hotel receptionist kindly said she will exchange some kip for me. [emoji5]
Now i would just like to clarify the cost of my visa...
On the form i stated that i want a single entry visa with a validity of 2 months plus the option to extend one month in chaeng wattana, this is the tourist visa, right? And if so, is it not 2000 baht?

  9. I want to collect my tourist visa tomorrow afternoon from the Thai embassy Vientian, however, i have only 1500 baht left and the visa costs 2000, to make matters worse i have learnt that the embassy only accept baht. I need to withdraw some money from an atm here using my Bangkok bank visa card and then exchange for baht somewhere. I asked in a few money exchangers but they only have kip...
