  1. Dear Learned group.

Our son (Russian National) has his education visa in Thailand and will be attending Uni in Rotterdam. The university requires a Residency certificate. We can get one easy enough at Jomtien Immigration. My question is, where would we need to go to get the Residency Certificate translated into English with proper attestation so he can submit this to the University for the Dutch Immigration.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. I had a fast and painless experience with my retirement extension (800k based) at Suan Plu today. Arrived at 08:10, number 9 in line (seems I was lucky and got a queue number that was returned), processing started at 08:25, my number was called at 08:55. The process was quick, including the new photo taking and fingerprinting procedure. Obtaining a re-entry permit also proceeded well. Total time spent: 1 hour, 45 minutes, 30 minutes less than last year. I have to say that it seemed unusually quiet, many seats available. It started to get busy when I left - good that I'm an early riser :) .

My wife and I had a painless experience also in Jomtien. Got our ticket at 13:00 and left at 13:11! Picked up our passports the next day. So easy.

  3. All,

I would like to thank every one for their input. My wife told me that the Lobster Pot was the best in show and taste for Irish Coffee.

  4. For all concerned,

I am one of the people affected by this possile change with retirement visa and dependant. I just talked to Pattaya Immigration on the phone. I explained my situation, I am retired and my wife has her visa based on my retirement. I told the Immigration officer about the New Police Order and he told me not to believe all that you read and that your wife has her visa and dont worry.

So now I dont know what to do but wait and see . . .

  5. all,

I did my 1st renewal based on retirement with my wife on 20 July. We went to the Pattaya Immigration with my US Embassy paper stating my retirement income as well as our marriage certificate and bank book. All was done with-in 15 minutes and we had our one year renewal. This time they kept my US Embassy paper and was told to get a new one for next year. The US VFW told me that we may have to have the US Embassy income paperwork translated at the Thai Foreign Affairs office. As always we will begin to prepare in April for an easy renewal in July.

Could you just clarify for me whether this was one proof of income (or 800,000 in the bank) for you both (not earch) as a married couple My husband and I are having some problems down samui way with this point

    thanks in advance and congratulations!

I have a letter from the US Embassy of my monthly retirement. We have a joint savings account and both had the letters from our bank, exact same letter with both our names. The Immigration official handed back one of our bank letters. Last time they took both our letters from our joint account.

  7. Hello there,

I will be needing to travel from the new airport(forgotten the name) to Pattaya. What travel options are available please? ie: bus/taxi/train

Please can I have an approximate price guide?

also,if I recall correctly, duty free cigarettes can be purchased inbound at the airport,is this still available?

Is there a website for the new airport?

It's been five years since I was last in Thailand so any info gratefully received.

I am new to Pattaya (July 06),

My wife and I use Danny Schots at BB lets. here is their website with Taxi prices.

  8. Did he not run out on charges of possession of child pornography ? You can run out on charges of such a serious nature but hang on to your passport ? Strange world.

Was his teaching licence in the USA (or a state of the USA) not revoked ?

I would think these two things might well be worth a mention on an international database.

He also, apparently, later had some kind of website which purported to offer some sort of child-friendly service but revealed his paedophiliac intentions. Nobody watching him from his home country at all ? Seems not, until now.

I would think that part of the hiring process should be the person obtaining a police records check, then with this in hand, apply for his B visa. But I know there are bad people out there and I am sure there are ways to even manipulate this. But . . . I think it would stop many with bad intentions from being hired.

  9. ok, so now seriously thinking about marriage in thailand, and then i can apply for my boyfriend to come back to israel based on marriage (we cant marry here in religious run country :D ) so......i know thousands of threads on this but i need one concise thread for my particular situation, like a 1 2 3 walk me thru version :o

    1. i have my divorce papers in hebrew and they must be translated from hebrew to english and then from english to thai ?? if they are notarized here (the hebrew to english version) will that be acceptable? this is to prove that i can remarry. any other documents??

    2. can the english to thai version be done in israel via internet to thailand? or thru the consulate somehow?

    3. how much time is needed when in thailand to do the amphur marriage bit in korat? i have to plan a trip and dont have much vacation time. costs for the amphur etc?

    4. anyone have the step by step instructions in thai for this (easier to explain to boyfriend and parents if written in thai, they think everything is quick and easy. i am skeptical.

    5. remember i am the woman getting married , i am not at this moment intending to live in thailand its just the marriage part since israel doesnt do civil marriages

i'm handling the beuracracy, he's handling the muubaan ceremony

a thousand thanks, as getting nervous about the paperwork (between israel and thailand where whims of the clerks can make or break u, i'm VERY nervous) :D:D

    Bina,

My wife and I just went through this same thing. She is from Russia and I from the USA.

Before meeting up in Thailand, my wife had all her papers translated from Russian to English.

Once in Thailand, we went to our respective Embassies and got the Affirmation of Marriage. Additionally if you have been married before or widowed then you must sign another paper.

These papers then are translated from English to Thai, then you go to the Foreign Affairs Consul in Bangkok and have those papers Legalized. You can pay extra money and wait the two hours or come back in two days.

Once you have these papers, then go to any local Ampor, and present the papers. Bring also your original Papers in English. Also dont forget, copies of your passport. Then they go through all the papers, ask you if all in the papers are true, you both sign the documents, and you get two certificates.

  10. "In cases of having dependents (husband / wife, children), the applicant must provide evidence indicating their relationship. Evidence must be translated into Thai and be certified by the embassy or consulate of the non-Thai citizens."

My wife has her one year visa in Bangkok waiting for approval. I got my retirement visa, then we went back to Pattaya Immigration, provided all the necessary documents, as well as copies of our joint account bank book and a letter from the bank. But, Immigration did not require any specific amount in our account, as my wife's visa is based on my retirement visa. Her visa, they told us, would have the same expiration date as my visa, so next year we can go in at the same time for our renewal. Our son will come next week and the good people at immigration told us what we will need for his one year visa also. Again they said next year, we all can come down two weeks prior to to the expiry date on the visa to get the ball rolling.

    Regards,

    Dick

  11. Hi All,

I want to thank you all for your imput.

This makes my life a lot easier now knowing that as I work outside of Thailand there is no need for reporting and a big load off my mind. I will isnure I get a multiple entry exit stamp with my long stay visa while at immigration.

    regards,

    Dick Cooper

  12. Hi All,

Will be arriving in Pattaya July and curious if the immigration has started online 90 day reporting? I will work outside Thai, and with non Imm "O" Retirement, want to make sure I am back for the reporting, or of course, it would make life much easier for online!

    Regards,

    Dick

  13. Been a while since I have been down Patti way but need to arrange to put some people into a half decent Hotel...but with none of the above... :D ...if possible..

For years I have always been happy with the old Palm Villa ( first time there -150bt /night) and have since moved up to the dizzy heights of paying over 500 dints a throw ..if unavoidable..but now need somewhere a bit more up market...so...wotcha..?

I have been looking at some of the reviews on the likes of the Royal Cliff but it seems to have gone down market a bit ...anyone stayed recently?

The Marriot is handy for the old "She Nags" pub/poxy shopping centre, and the Amora is next door to Henry Beenz etc..(dear dear)...but :D ...(my hangout is usually the markland)

So for couples who aint into the heavy bar scene and dont want a flee infested doss house or to be too hassled by local hookers and their paramours....where.....apart from the obvious... Hua hin/Cha Am/Chiang Mai....

...so Decent Hotels with beach,Restaurant with drinkable plonk and maybe a cabaret ( but no karaoke)...dont sound too much to ask...isit :o

Patti Hotels...recommendations, but No whores/russian mafia or bald fat sex tourists

I do take offense to this. My wife and son are Russian, her relatives have worked hard and now live in Pattaya as other good honest hard working people have. It is not good business to make such sweeping generalizations like this.

  14. Hi all,

I have a BS From State University of New York and now am looking at possibly teaching in Thailand. I came across this website that offers on campus 80 hr TESOL/TESL Teacher Training Certification Course from Oxford Seminars. Was wondering if any of you have heard of this and is it worth while? Got a "B" type visa with two journeys and will come to Pattaya in July. So want to be well armed with every possible advantage for possibly teaching. Otherwise will check to see the local PADI dive shops and see if they need an old beat up Dive Instructor as my fall back.

  15. The only real Notary Public recognized by most US authorities is going to be the US Embassy. Be prepared to pay for their services. Some active duty Officers of the US Military have notarization powers but they will hardly ever assist civilians in these matters. Good luck in finding one.

I have had many documents translated by lawyer's offices and, as long as they place a stamp of some sort on it, I have had no trouble getting it certified by either the Thai MOFA or the US Embassy. I paid for that service at the US Embassy as well.

Well, this will all change as soon as I get to Pattaya, I am a Notary with the State of Florida. I have done Notarials for people in AUS, and other areas also for mortgages etc. So I know my SEAL is GOOD. And yes the Embassies charge LOTS of money! Florida State law says maximum charge is $10 USD. Be in Pattaya by mid July.
