It seems a confusing issue at the moment and everyone seems to have different experiences depending on the province. I am on a METV and was in Chonburi and they definitely ask for a report to Jomtien. I have moved to Trat province and am wondering if a TM 30 is needed. If people named what province they are in we could work out which offices want and which ones don't care.

Mmmmmmmmm  dont care seems to be the Immigration culture unless they can scam money out of you, regarding a fine. At CNX I have friends who have sent Thai women to pay the fine; neighbor paid 800 baht, another one paid 2200 baht, my partner paid 1600 baht and didnt speak to me for 3 days after ( LOL their laws, she loses face). What I find hard to understand, each year they give me a 1 year extension of stay; so there is a trust in that. Then they break that trust with dumb 90 day reporting and this TM 30 each time I go out of country. Cynically, its about giving low stress jobs to mates and getting tea money for these latter two waste of time. Yesterday I spent 3 hours waiting to do my TM 30 check in; watched as young men dressed as monks pushed in numerous times; then the agents do the same with 10 Chinese passports; and I thought the owner of the passport had to be present?

I guess that whether a TM30 is essential or not depends on your interaction with the immigration office. I have never visited an immigration office in almost 15 years, so never bothered about the TM30 (always had a multiple entry non-O visa). Might run into problems in a couple of years when I want to renew my driving license though....

It only is a requirement if you leave and reenter Thailand so have you been out the country in 15 years?

Come up to the HELL called Promenada here in Chiang Mai, where they love to make life as difficult as possible.

1: Wait in the queue for maybe 30 minutes with your passport, copy of your bio page, copy of your extension page, copy of your arrival card, copy of your last 90 day report along with original. After waiting in line be greeted by an overweight bulldog chewing a wasp who now insists that she wants a copy of your original 1st ever entry extension that was transferred to your passport 3 passports ago.

Exit queue and locate copier room, wait another 10 minutes for your copy.

Back in line to the queue which has now grown in length to a 40 minute wait.

Present new photocopy to wasp chewing bulldog. Get your queue number. wait another 30 minutes or more if you are unlucky, to get called.

Sit down and wait until they can be bothered to process your report - if you watch closely you can chuckle with laughter as you see them slip your passport under everyone elses, so you are last in the queue.

Take your blood pressure medication sit tight and learn to grin and bare it! Chiang Mai Immigration, second to none in Thailand for the worst ever customer experience, and proud of their reputation. Make note AGAIN to self!  DO NOT FORGET THE DATE - MAKE YOUR APPLICATION BY POST!!!!! You never ever need to look at them again! EMS, the best 40 Baht you can spend. They would not look out of place with 6 foot bamboo poles to beat you with until you conform.

Yes I agree with you happens all the time. Now i am told there is new bulldog boss that started last week. Things are to get harder and meaner for farangs.

  4. Noted at Rimping and Macro outlets in the last week all boxed wine has increased 100 baht in price. Maybe they sold old stock after the new increase in alcohol tax came in some months ago at old price, meaning new stock is taxed higher?

  5. ubonjoe. You learn something everyday re entry permits. Just had some extra work come my way outside of Thailand so instead of paying for many single re entry permits ( expensive) I inquire about a multi entry permit. Logic is buy it tomorrow when first used the year starts; no! Can only buy it with a the yearly extension that is March 6th next year. So I have to buy 2 single permits as I wait for that magic number of 45 days when the extension is due. Flexibility is the key to indecision.

  6. If you dont report at CNX Immigration upstairs at Promenada within 24 hours of arrival; then your house master will be blessed on your next visit there with a 1600 baht fine as my Thai partner found out this week. Naturally she blamed me; Thainess in action. Inconsistencies in fines one neighbor was fined 800 baht ( there is a rumor thats the Thai only fine; but if the farang is with her expect 1600). However, the Thai neighbor took another Thai neigbor after her 800 baht hit; the new reporting person got 1800? Of course the internet reporting site is still conveniently down since December 7th last year.
