Gambling is not a problem. Irresponsible  gamblers are the problem. I collect toys myself and buy what I can afford. Some drink beer. Some eat at fancy restaurants. Some indulge in shall we say pleasures of the flesh, IF gambling is your thing, and you want to use your spare money on it then I cannot see the issue with gambling responsibly.

and what casio or bookie do you work for, absolute <deleted>. GAMBLING IS A DISEASE just as bad as smokes, get a brain  and look at the damage GAMBLING is doing to society every where

I started one year ago with 400 trees, soil can never be too wet nor too dry. The roots spread out but don’t go deep. Durian trees require daily watering and regular fertiliser.
I hope to be able to harvest first Durian in 5-6 yearsIMG_1272.JPG

Exchange rate is bad, costs are going up, visas are getting a lot harder to get, and more competitive alternatives are arising.

it isn't really surprising stuff. Thailand ain't that cheap anymore. Aussie dollar is like 21.7 thb these days. A lot of things are cheaper back in Aus now,

really ! none of my mates would agree with you, it may be cheaper but at what level !

It's designed to force expats to actually prove they can meet the financial criteria instead of signing a possibly fraudulent stat dec.

same, same, here at nong son rong, 12 ks from si that

A lot of what happens depends on the puu yai, we have a good one, before internet cables were brought to the village officially he had us connected with the school which had internet outside the village, semi-legal. He organizes village clean ups regularly, proper rubbish disposal, regular village meetings once a month so we have a real community spirit and people are proud of their village.

you are so spot on , the women in our village rule  the head man, my wife being one of them, i feel if the village is going well financially life is sweet, the womens commitee are great, even if trouble arouses here, it is quickly discussed and trouble makers moved on, shit  happens.  no drunks no drugs , and most defininately no women bashing in our village, and the kids are great, disiplin is still relavent here,

  9. in our village we had a couple who borrowed a million, or more , police are involved, the truth never came out, they have disappeared, leaving the young boy,  the family has had to pay, has broken a beautiful family up,

lots of threats , the husband got caught for drugs else where, brought back, bailed out  by our family again and has now disappeared again, rumor has it both are now dead!

end of story, but they are still paying!

Eastern Isaan is flat as far as the eye can see.

So there are no natural collection of water running along slopes and no khlong and irrigation systems at all.

There are a few reservoirs which, as far as I know, collect water from rivers during the high rain season.

I don't know how this water is used, but we certainly don't see any of it around here.

More generally, this is now our second drought in 3 years and I have been thinking for a long time that, sooner or later, large parts of Isaan will become semi-desert, because this is what often happens after major deforestation in tropical areas.

read about when they bought eucaliptus trees from australia in about 1900, thailand was as you say headed for  a desert but they turned it around, maybe its time to do it again bobs

  11. our farm is out at si that, 150 ks from udon thani, we have all ready had good rain this year, it is raining now nit nou, now heavy, people all around are  planting now , which is unusually early, the small river is still quite full and our 2 bores are going none stop, the water table is still good, our second crop of cane is looking good after being cut in late january, looks like being a great season , good luck bobs

    Surprised that there is no mention of  two constant visitors;

    1. Environmental change: The increased water use by countries upstream from Thailand, combined with the  destruction of aquifiers will negatively impact agriculture and Thailand's ability to feed itself. Rising sea levels will cause havoc in coastal cities and Bangkok.  More extreme weather will  hurt agriculture.

    2. Disease: The impact of  antibiotic resistant bacteria and  new variations of viruses will devastate the population. We will return to an era when there were no antibiotics. The  long term use of the  pesticides and herbicides and antibiotics in agriculture and  factory farming will take its toll.

I will remain a hansum man and will still be the youngest person in the bar in Hua Hin.  :)

my god , your starting whinging and full of negitivity all ready, must be a young pom!

All the haters will be still posting on Thai Visa

ya you definately got that right, in ten years the whinging poms will be gone as they will not be able to afford it here, is happening now, no uk pension increases, as will be aussies as they will have to wait to 70, for a pension, to old then to move, most younger ferangs will not live here long term as they will have no money, no well paying jobs or security here for them and the price of every thing in thailand is on the up, personately i have set myself up very well on my farm and i can only see my thai family getting richer and stronger, no one in my family drinks ,smokes or gambles, except me, so i could be the only problem
