all you have to do is not take it out. So How do You Buy Stuff if You Leave yer money in the account.....Credit Card ??

Wise actually has a debit card attached to their account where you can use it at places like Big C Etc using the money in your account. But I think it's probably cheaper to transfer money directly into your account rather than pay the fee attached to the transactions. But that's just a guess.

    UPDATE

Thanks for all the input, I have opened a Kasikorn account today.

A couple of things I worth mentioning. I went to open one at Big C Central yesterday and they denied me saying I needed a residence certificate. Even though I showed him I had a Chanote available if that helped. So like any good long-term resident I just tried somewhere else down the road at Central Pattaya near Bukhao. No problems of course I took my Chanote with me.

Also the maximum transferable amount that I wasn't able to change in the app and there didn't seem to be an option to go to a branch was 49999b. But I'll explore that further because I could see it as limiting in the circumstances I'm considering relevant for the account.

I always wanted to ask, why do some people need ultra-fast Wise transfers to their Thai bank accts? I'm just trying to understand why some say they need money from overseas in seconds vs. next day arrival. One could simply use their Thai bank ATM card to get money, and when their balance starts to get low, they could just send more money. Is it because some people let their bank balances get too low before sending money? Just asking.

Unforeseen circumstances like possibly a hospital visit or my girlfriend's Buffalo getting sick!

But I think in reality in a modern world money should move around immediately if it's transferred electronically. The banking sector in Australia just went through a massive overhaul a few years ago to facilitate this.

Personally, I don't know when or if I'll need it, but I'd rather have it than not have it. I don't like to keep a lot of money in Thailand not working for me so I top up as the bank account gets low. Of course there are other ways to manage that, but I'm taking this action because this is my preferred option.

Sure it's nice to the few seconds transfer to Kasikorn but is it worth the hassle to open an account?

It's a fair point you make though I see the effort of opening a bank account as a trivial matter. So setting up something in the unlikely event that waiting a day for the transfer is a problem I see as worthwhile.

Also giving me different banking options may produce other benefits. Though it's a secondary consideration in this case.

A safer bet, if you require faster wise transfers, is Kasikorn bank as that is still the partner bank with Wise. Transfers to there with wise arrives in minutes (more often seconds)

Actually, thanks for mentioning that. I had defaulted to Krungsri because that's the other account that I send to and because it was so quick I just assumed that was the one that was mentioned in the blurb when you send money but you're right, it's Kasikorn bank.

I'm only looking for the short transfers trying to get in front of a problem I haven't had yet.

  5. Currently I'm with Bangkok Bank and their transfer time over the last 6 months at least appears to have slowed down a bit. It's probably not a huge issue but I thought I'd open an account with Krungsri because transfers to them seem almost immediate most of the time.

Happy to hear any opinions and recommendations as part of this. Pitfalls accounts or possibly other options that might be better suited. Thanks

Why don't you ask GoMo via Live Chat, since you already have an account with them?

I suspect that they will have a similar policy to AIS and the other networks. You can have up to five SIM with the same network.

At which pack were you looking?

On the live chat I have not been able to get an agent at all. It's just all AI responses.

Pretty sure the five SIM cards you're talking about is a government restriction. But I've done research and I can't find anything that says you can't. But neither have I found anything that says you can.

  7. As the title suggests. Are we able to get a second SIM card on our gomo account.

Problem here is you need to have an ID card to apply for a gomo SIM.

Just looking for a cheap solution for a SIM card for my Android head unit in my car so I'm not having a hotspot. Not interested in paying a couple hundred baht a month.

    Thanks

  8. I need to get a car in the next week or so.

Probably going to be a used car as it's going to be for various types of commuting to Isaan and local. Probably spend about 300 to 400,000 but that's just an early thought.

Just hoping to get a rundown on things I should be conscious of when purchasing vehicles here? It will be purchased in a Thai name.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. Also just to follow up.

I lost my wallet a while ago and got a police report stating to the fact that I lost my licenses. I haven't bothered to replace them. I've got photocopies of them does anybody see that being an issue in obtaining the new licenses?

  10. Just a couple of questions on the driving license current conditions.

Applying for both car and motorbike do you still only need one original copy of your resident certificate and medical certificate? Any suggestions on the central Pattaya Med certificate would be useful also.

Do you still need to make an appointment and approximately how long from the appointment time to the that you make the appointment is it if that's the case.

    Thanks in advance

  11. Hoping to find someone with direct experience here.

I sent some documents, tracked, to Australia on about the 24th of June and they seemed to be moving along quite normally but appear to have stopped in Hong Kong airport since the 28th of June.

Nothing to suggest that the tracking number has changed or anything like that but it seems to be a long time to be held over for its next leg.

    Any previous experiences appreciated.

    Cheers.

    Moved to the health forum.

Most Thai dermatologists have  limited experience with skin cancer as it is not common in Thais.

Stand alone derm clinics tend to be cosmetically focused.

in Pattaya, see Dr. Anna at BPH, she specializes in skin cancers. There isn't a stand alone clinic option that will give you what you need in this respect.

Thanks, Sheryl. I did suspect as much.

I guess young Thai girls are coughing up more cash than wrinkly old expats!

  13. Just wondering if anybody knows of a doctor who has a dermatology clinic outside of the major hospitals that does skin cancer checking. Nothing specific, just an annual check.

It seems to be fairly common for doctors to have private clinics outside of their regular day job at the hospital and have had good experiences at these in the past.

Yes, that's correct: You need a police report – I think it's still 20 baht in fee – and the go to Land Transport Office to get a new Driver's License, which will cost you a fee in the area of 200 baht. It will be same period, as you lost DL. A photocopy might not work, so better get it done.

Police report was 100b. I've done police reports before but I can't recall when I paid.

  15. Yeah I downloaded the app and tried to register without success from the pictures I had of the QR code on the back.

But I'm also wondering if I do get a new license will I get 5 years or will it only be until the original expiry?

  16. I've just lost my thai 5 year driver's license and the rest of the contents of my wallet. So I'm just wondering do I need to replace it because it's due to be replaced in August next year or can I just show a photocopy of my license until then? Or will I get new 5-years on the new license when they issue the replacement?

Also I've read that I can get away with just the police report copies of my old license probably passport main page as well. Can anybody confirm?

    Thanks in advance.

Circumnavigate what....being a tax resident or non resident? With the proposed new rules it won't be that difficult to remain resident, 45 days in 3 years is easily doable.

555 I'm pleased you think so. The idea of spending that 45 day in a home that's not my own is probably enough to just make me pay more tax!

I guess I'll have to weigh it up against the cost of flying to Australia Hotel Etc vs being a non-resident for tax purposes 😂

Then, you have to deal with Thailand taxing foreign income in the future, and the double taxation agreement.

Buckle up, indeed.  Or, you can believe all of this is just for guys like Paul Hogan, and dismiss all the information in the many, many links provided as scaremongering.

I think the funny thing here is that we're probably all guilty at some point in time, some all the time, of complaining about how Thailand is not organized like the West.

But the first sign that they might be getting organized that works against us, most of us are up in arms! 😜

  18. My take away with this, is it's not specifically a money grab from the ATO. That's not to suggest that it won't benefit them. But it's more about trying to tidy up the the rules surrounding tax residency.

The current laws surrounding tax residency are dogs breakfast and I think they were created about 70 years ago and not relevant to a modern society.

Anyway it's going to be interesting to see how it's all implemented. Particularly in light of the current tax rules that the Thailand governments might be looking at enforcing.

So buckle up, I know I am!

What are you writing about a Skype option----- you just dont understand, do you ?--- Skype connects to the land line--or mobile  of the person you are calling---they dont need to have Skype.....

I think what he's referring to is some businesses will sometimes have a Skype option to make a free call via the Skype app to their Skype app.
