  1. I don’t know why people are surprised by this as it’s standard Thai practice. I don’t make the rules and facts are just that.
  2. The whole reason for this topic was for me to understand more from ‘Farang’ mentality rather than assuming the Thai person knows everything as it’s something I’m considering investing in.
  3. Of course… And all would be facilitated through a Thai friend.
  4. Yes appears to be a running theme here and understandable. Thanks for the info.
  5. No, you misunderstand, I mean the passport is retained until financial reperations are made. This is standard in Thailand.
  6. Nobody is going to put down a 50.000 as trust is a two way street, this is also why foreigners ‘never’ give their passport for fear of it not being returned. I’ve not mentioned anything remotely as no passport necessary as I’ve never given my passport but always had a photocopy taken. This is a well known fact to safeguard yourself from questionable Thai shops wanting to scam an individual suggesting the bike has scuffs, minor damage and if they don’t pay they don’t get the passport back.
  7. Not checked insurance, no and any damages the individual pays for.
  8. Hi All Apologies if this is not in the right place as I wasn’t sure where to put this topic other than general, anyway… If you’re renting bikes out how do you safeguard yourself to ensure the bikes are returned? A lot of people don’t want to give their passports with a deposit but what’s the alternative, photocopy, photograph it to take to the police if a bikes not returned? I’m not a shop but rather an individual. Any advice is appreciated! Many thanks
  9. Thanks for the info and if this helps anybody… I found a YouTube video, as I was trying anything and everything and on Mac in network settings I changed the DNS setting numbers and now it works like a charm! :)
  10. Mine was also working great at this location so it’s nothing to do with which works here but as my msg suggested after dloading a 100mb file, now I cannot hotspot. That’s the issue.????
  11. Can I ask, as I have AIS 6mbps unlimited, I assumed 6 is the streaming rate capacity and unlimited is simply that? Reason for asking is it’s been working like a charm but today I cannot hotspot to laptop. I dloaded a 100mb file last night. I don’t know if that is an issue but today I cannot get data on laptop! Have you ever experienced this or any ideas? Many Thanks!
  12. Thanks for the info and link, very helpful. One last question regarding swapping pports in the air… because you enter pport info when booking flights. Would that represent issues with a rtn or would you purchase outbound and inbound separately to then enter the different pport numbers?
  13. I was told it cannot be done on land only in the air, which doesn’t logically make sense as you said as it’s no mans land. But to ensure there’s no hiccups I’ll go by air and thank you, I also thought renewing the UK pport would literally be a waste of time, being mine and the duration of it dwindling time when not being used. Have a great day!????
  14. No, it can’t be done by land, only in the air so I’ll leave with UK pport, enter Malaysia with Irish pport which will then enable me to rtn with the Irish pport. But my querie really is, is there any benefit to renewing the UK pport as you have to exit a country with the same that you entered with so it doesn’t really work as a back up pport so to speak.
  15. Hi All I’m at a quandary and would love some advice… I’m living in Thailand where I entered with a UK pport last year & It’s about to expire 16th Oct. Now I have a valid unused (10yr, 7yrs left as not used) Irish pport & my plan is to exit before UK pport expires and enter a neighbouring country with the Irish pport… So I can then re enter Thailand after 1st Oct getting the 45 days visa (& look to obtain a different visa moving forwards as been on the Covid tourist extension for past 12 months!. Separate issue!). My intention was to then venture to Bkk to get the UK renewed but… My question is, because you can only change pports in the air, meaning I’d leave Thailand in the future using the Irish, is there any point to renewing the UK pport now (I naively thought some time ago that if lost or stolen etc then could simply use the other one but not the case) as there doesn’t appear to be any point to have the 2nd pport (UK) losing duration on it! I’m all for minimising problems & expanding opportunities with travel (especially now) so can anybody suggest the point or benefit in the expense and hassle to having the UK pport renewed at this stage? Many thanks for any advice concerning my quandary! Have a great day! ????
  16. Hi All I’m looking to exit Thailand on 27th Sept as my tourist visa (had ‘C’ extensions for past 12 months) expires 29th & my UK passport expires 16th Oct. Going to exit w/ UK Pport and rtn with my Irish pport. Planning to rtn after 2nd Oct (up until 1st it’s 30 days) to get 45 days visa on arrival. I went to Phuket’s immigration & was informed I can further extend for another 45 days with them… Does that sound right (as we’re familiar with the save face aspect) or would I be looking at a border run or I suppose I could fly out and back in again no? Or will it be a 30 day extension? Reason I ask is the entire 90 days will benefit me getting the UK passport renewed (roughly up to 12 weeks ish I’m told). Can the visa on arrival, moving forward be changed to an education visa or alternatives? Many thanks for your time in reading this and any advice is much appreciated! ????
  17. Hi Quick question as I’m looking to exit on 27th, visa expires 29th. Can rtn say 2nd Oct to get 45 days visa on arrival. I went to Phuket’s immigration & was informed I can further extend for another 45 days with them… Does that sound right (as we’re familiar with the save face aspect) or would I be looking at a border run or I suppose I could fly out and back in again no? Or will it be a 30 day extension? Reason I ask is the 90 days will benefit me getting the UK passport renewed (roughly 12 weeks ish I’m told). Can the visa on arrival, moving forward be changed to an education visa or alternatives?
  18. Thanks that’s a great deal! I work a lot with video… Do you ever have issues with streaming on 4Mbps?
  19. Hi All And yes I’ve looked a lot but hit a wall with this. I’m relocating to an apartment but doesn’t have WiFi. So I’m thinking the best opportunity is to get unlimited data on phone that I can bounce across to the laptop. Issue is… I can’t seem to get a set monthly charge for an unlimited data package. I currently have an AIS sim and add data monthly for gmaps etc outdoors. Can anybody advise about a monthly unlimited data cost? Many thanks!
  20. Thank you… I’ll go to immigration tomorrow in Phuket to get their advice. So a side question, because Thailand state if you enter with a UK pport you must leave with it which makes perfect sense but… If I intend to leave to go to a neighbouring country using UK pport but wish to then enter Thailand using Irish pport (to enable renewing UK pport) say if I went to Cambodia would they not also require that I leave with the same pport I entered with??
  21. Apologies when I’ve mentioned the ‘embassy’ I meant VFS, although the link for Phuket looks like it’s for Italy only and won’t accommodate UK renewals but it does appear that the best option for me is to leave as suggested with the UK passport and return using Irish passport so I’m covered for my stay here whilst renewing my UK passport.
  22. Hi Guys If you could please advise I would be very grateful as I’ve searched endlessly and cannot conclude the best or appropriate course of action here. I’m based in Phuket and my 10 year UK passport will expire on the 16th October. I understand I need to book an appointment to come to the embassy office in Bangkok with my passport. I am just unsure about which documents are required from me and apparently I can submit online or bring with me? Please inform in anybody knows which documents I need to have. Other issue is I am due to renew my visa before October 1st. I’m not sure how long the passport renewal process takes. Does anybody know? Should I renew my visa on October the 1st then renew the passport? Or renew passport now but will I receive it before October 1st? I also have an Irish passport but I entered Thailand with the UK passport. Please help as I’ve looked online for many hours but couldn’t find clear information to progress matters! Thanks all!!
  23. Hi I’ve a friend who’s just ventured to ‘Nam, if he gives me info regarding what was required I’ll be sure to let you know. He isn’t returning to Thailand though and that is the latter part of my querie et all! I’ll check through the relevant forums to see if can get progress matters and thanks for your info! Have a great day!
