  1. Thank you for the info, that sounds very good, you’ve mentioned 1 year extensions. Just so I’m clear was this a 1 year visa and then repeated? As people suggest it’s a 1 year visa with 3 month extensions?
  2. Info needed regarding transitioning from Visa Exempt to an Education Visa and a Visa Run from Phuket to Satun. Such as…. During the 12 months education visa duration are you required to do something every 3 months such as check in with immigration or… get an extension or…? What is the price for this visa? And if have to get an extension at an additional cost does the education visa serve any purpose other than a 12 month peace of mind. ‘A company’ have informed me that being 51, I cannot apply for an education visa but ‘have to’ apply for a retirement visa… Any truth in that? ———————— I’m currently on a visa exempt entry, now 30 day extension and considering a Satun (I’m based in Bang Tao, Phuket) visa run, of which I’ve done years ago & also know they are not without their own issues… Can anybody recommend a reputable company that doesn’t have Dominic Turreto at the steering wheel and is 4000b the average charge? As I’m being told it’s 2500b for the company and ahem 1500b for immigration? ———————— I’ve reworded this from a post some days ago as too many people’s responses were concerning the school requirements and that’s not my question. Many thanks!
  3. Thanks for mentioning as that’s interesting. I’ve also been told by a company, as I’m 50, that when at this age you cannot apply for an education visa but have to apply for a retirement visa! Has anybody heard of that or just a company’s shenanigans?
  4. It hardly seems worth it getting an education visa if there’s an additional expense to get an extension every 3 months.
  5. People are getting side tracked with this issue. I’ve not stated I wouldn’t attend as I would use the opportunity to learn, why waste such an opportunity.
  6. That’s not the case as I know of people who’ve not had to but that’s not my querie here as I would use the opportunity to learn the language.
  7. Hi Guys Can I get info regarding making the jump from visa exempt to an Education Visa please. I don’t really know anything about them other than they last for 12 months & you can or don’t have to learn the language etc. During those 12 months do you have to check in or do visa runs or? Also what is the going rate for this visa? I’m currently on a visa exempt entry, now 30 day extension and considering a Satun (I’m based in Bang Tao, Phuket) visa run, of which I’ve done years ago & also know they are not without their own issues… Can anybody recommend a reputable company that doesn’t have Dominic Turreto at the steering wheel and is 4k the going rate? Many thanks!
  8. Thanks for clarifying and have a great day!????????
  9. Not by air, no? As I’ve always had one when entering Thailand many times before and immigration has always requested a photocopy of the TM6 to get the previous ‘C’ extensions…. Hmmmm. Or is it because I entered from Malaysia rather than Europe?
  10. Should I have gotten a TM6 when entering Thailand from Malaysia? As I wasn’t given one and immigration didn’t ask for one. It’s suggested online that it’s been temporarily suspended to ease travel congestion but that travellers should fill it in if planning to get a 30 day extension??
  11. When the 45 days are nearly up, go to immigration for a 30 day extension at 1900b.????
  12. Hi And then I can repeat? leave country to return with visa exemption (45 days) & 30 day extension etc? Is there a limit to how many times a person can enter visa exempt & is 45 days offered also on border crossings? I’m thinking flying back in is more lenient than border crossings maybe. Thanks for your time & have a great day!
  13. Hi I’ve been in Thailand for 12 months getting Covid 2 monthly extensions. Last month I was in KL and re entered here with a 45 day visa exemption, I’m presuming I can go to immigration and get a further 30 day extension and is it then back to border runs? Or should I say flying, exiting the country to return with a 45 day visa exemption and repeat? How many times can the visa exemption be obtained in one calendar year? I should add that I went to KL on a UK pport to return on my new Irish pport so they won’t see a 12 month history of many stamped pages and hopefully not causing any issues with immigration and entering. Any advice is appreciated!????????
  14. 3k isn’t really a large deposit though in contrast to the bike cost.
  15. I stand corrected and maybe that is the exception.
  16. Wise words and I whole heartedly agree! : )
  17. A bike can never be rented without showing your passport, whether it is retained until the bike is returned or whether a copy of your passport is taken depends solely on the individual shop. Again this can’t be disputed… as it’s factual.
  18. It’s not up to me as it’s how the Thais conduct ‘their’ business.
  19. This was the main reason for my post.
  20. I don’t know why people are surprised by this as it’s standard Thai practice. I don’t make the rules and facts are just that.
  21. The whole reason for this topic was for me to understand more from ‘Farang’ mentality rather than assuming the Thai person knows everything as it’s something I’m considering investing in.
  22. Of course… And all would be facilitated through a Thai friend.
  23. Yes appears to be a running theme here and understandable. Thanks for the info.
  24. No, you misunderstand, I mean the passport is retained until financial reperations are made. This is standard in Thailand.
  25. Nobody is going to put down a 50.000 as trust is a two way street, this is also why foreigners ‘never’ give their passport for fear of it not being returned. I’ve not mentioned anything remotely as no passport necessary as I’ve never given my passport but always had a photocopy taken. This is a well known fact to safeguard yourself from questionable Thai shops wanting to scam an individual suggesting the bike has scuffs, minor damage and if they don’t pay they don’t get the passport back.
