  1. I have today posted the following question on the UK embassy web site.

"If a UK citizen presents the embassy with an UK notarised document from an UK notary public regarding the income of that individual. Will then the embassy then issue a  a certificate regarding that person's income that will be acceptable to the Thai immigration. Given that a notarised document is true and legally binding the onus is no longer on the Embassy to guarantee the details are correct."

I will post any answer that I get.

  2. Under Cambodia's immigration law, any alien living in the country without valid documents such as passports, visas, or work permits are subject to deportation.

In the UK the illegals throw away their passports and ID documents to prevent deportation, as many of the countries from which the illegals came from refuse to take them back without proof that they actually came from their country, perhaps the Cambodians should show the Brits the way to get rid of their illegals.

  3. Some years ago I helped my niece who was being taught English by a Thai English teacher with her English homework. I pointed out something that clearly gramatically wrong, (if I remember right the tense was incorrect) she corrected her work only to have it marked as wrong, much to her annoyance. Considering I am a native English speaker whom has studied English to A level, had numerous articles published and am educated to degree level, I wonder who was right or who was wrong..

  4. This article was published in South West Farmer over 20 years ago, once she got the money the pig farming idea was no longer feasable so she just spent it. Another farlang conned!!

A YOUNG FARMERS STRUGGLE IN SOUTH EAST ASIA
In the resort island of Phuket in Southern Thailand situated adjacent to one of the resorts minor beaches there is a combined bar and restaurant for sale. The price asked for the lease fixtures and fitting is 20,000 Baht, and with one £ Sterling equalling approximately 40 Baht this represents just £500. Four years ago this was a thriving area but as the nearby Patong Beach was rapidly developed by the big hotels and with the attendant night life of discos and Thailands famous Go-Go and Girlie Bars, so the tourist trade in many of the lesser resorts has declined.
Somjai. The leasee, whom not only cooks but acts as waitress and washer-up is 27 years old and comes from a rural area in South Thailand called Trang. Her parents collect the sap from Rubber trees then cure and dry it, and until she moved to Phuket this was Somjai's main employment. Abandoned and with a young son, saddled with a declining business she desperately yearns to return to return to Trang and has a burning ambition to realise her childhood dream of running a small pig farm that will not only support her and her son but will also help keep her ageing parents.
The land is surprisingly expensive in Thailand, the half acre plot adjacent to her parents home that she wishes to buy would cost her 30,000 Baht. (£750). This very fertile semi-cultivated land has Coconut Palms, Thai Grapefruit and various indigenous shrubs growing on it. These would have to be cleared before the proposed building of the pig unit and Somjai no stranger to hard physical work proposes to do this by her self to cut down costs. The pig unit would be a purpose made unit measuring 30 x 8 metres built to her own design and again in the main part by herself. The sides and internal pens being of a solid concrete construction standing approximately 1.5 metres high, the outside walls above this height being either slatted or meshed to give not only the always important ventilation but also to give adequate protection against the summer sun and the monsoon rains. The roof would be of a timber frame work supporting a thatch of Nipa Palm leaves which not only provides an excellent insulated and waterproof roof but has the advantage of being readily available at a minimal cost. The estimated cost of this building would be 60,000 Baht. (£1,500).
Somjai intends to start her herd by buying four weaned gilts costing 800 Bahts each (£80 in total), when they had reached an adequate size she would hire a boar to service them; staggering the service dates thus producing a continuous farrowing pattern. She plans on two litters per sow per year, each litter hopefully numbering between 10-12 piglets. If the litters were larger than this the excess over 12 being sold as weaners. A permanent capacity for fattening 20 pigs being planned. The pigs themselves would be a local large white variety as although the small strain of Black Asian pigs produce a better flavoured meat they cannot compete with the larger white pigs when it comes to litter size, weight gain and thus general profitability. The pigs would be killed at approximately 80 kg., the price per kilo being approximately 33 Baht , the amount realised per pig being 2,640 Baht (£46.00). Planning to have a throughput of 160 fat pigs per annum each with a profitability after expenses of 400 Baht.(£10) Per pig this would give an income of 6,400 Baht per month (£160), this being in a country where a wage of 3,000 Baht (£75) is average.
So for a total investment of 100.000 Baht.(£2.500) Somjai could realise her dreams. Although by western values this amount is a pittance Somjai is faced, as are many British young farmers with a seemingly insurmountable financial barrier that prevents her starting on her farming career.

  5. You will need your marriage certificate plus a copy and the Kor Ror 2 marriage registry you will get when register your marriage.

Copies of your wife's house book and ID card.

A map to your house form the nearest main road or street.

Photos of you and your wife in and around the house and one showing you both under or next to the house number.

Unless you live in Bangkok you will need 2 sets of copies attached to two TM7 application forms.

Proof of money in the bank or income.

The rest is the same as for any other extension.

Edit: Forgot to mention your wife will have to go with you to complete a statement you both will sign.

Plus a Thai witness if its the first time you have aplied for marriage extension.

  6. Go into an SCB bank with your UK bank's Debit card and passport and ask for a "Cash Advance". No fees on either end.

In Pattaya and Sattahip the SCB have in several different branches refused to allow me to withdraw money on a Nationwide debit card "saying it is not allowed by their head office,

Incidently I have tried varies money transfer companies tend to be a poor rate and a a charge at both ends. HSBC with a special card pay convert at well undeer the exchange rate. The best I've found is Nationwide Flex Plus

  7. I passed the scene last night. It didn't occur on the beach road but on the Sukumvit. I have never seen so many rescue pickups and ambulances in one place. I was overtaken by six of them and when got to the scene there were at least another half dozen. Ten Russians in a Baht bus, judging from the size of russians generally at least two had to be hanging of the back, probably the most seriously injured. I agree limit the passenger numbers, even then Health and safety in European country would have a field day.

  8. When I arrive in Thaialnd Nov 6th it is on a non o multi issued in mid January 2014. I know I can get 3 months followed by another 3 months by doing a border trip before the non o runs out. Can I get a retirement visa after the non o has expired (mid Jan) in Feb or March before my stay runs out. I ask because I have been told rightly or wrongly that if I applied in Nov or Dec that a retirement would run from the date I entered. The reason for asking is that often I have to return to the uk in Nov/Dec and I didn't want it to need to be renewed whilst I was possibly in the UK.

I will be dealing with the Jomtien office.

  9. My wife and I got a visa at the beginning of this month in BKK. They wanted, a photo, airline tickets, travel insurance details, hotel bookings and copy of our last bank statement. We did observe several people being turned away as they didn't have enough paper work with them and quite a few people who tried to argue the odds who got nowhere at all and just made the wait longer for rest of us. Take as much as you can better more than less.

  10. Mmail2you, there was a time, many decades ago, when a Thai woman married to a foreigner was not allowed to buy land in Thailand, but ever since then no restriction whatsoever applies.

Sent from my Nexus S using Thaivisa Connect App

This is absolutely correct but some land offices for instance the one at Sattahip insist that if a Thai woman is married to a foreigner that she can not own land and bribery doesn't work there, in next-door Pattaya the the girl is allowed to own the land regardless of her marital status.

Regards the passport problem we had been using passports with two names for years, the airline staff are only worried about the possibility of the ticket holder being refused entry as they get fined very heavily.

  11. I know of three pubs in my home area of Devon that have a flexible pricing structure. When the holidaymakers arrive in the summer the price of pint goes up but the locals still pay the winter prices. As one landlord said the season is short and I rely on the locals for my living year long.

  12. Thanks for all the comments and advice. I will reapply for the visa.

    • My wifes parents wedding certificate showing that both mothers have the same nee surname well in hand.
    • Estate agents particulars of my next-door neighbour's identical house which he has on the market at the moment , with room sizes and floorplans etc.
    • The airline resevation will be re-presented and highlighted to show the return ticket, after all what immigration officier would let someone into the UK on a oneway ticket.
    • Although we will do the best to explain the erratic money in and out of the bank, this should not have been a concern to ECO as I clearly stated that apart from the airline ticket I was fully funding her stay and that she would not have to pay for anything, all she needed was pocket money. I did the same for every member of my wife's family that have visited the UK. We already have bookings for cottages and a canal boat that sleep 4-6 persons so its not going to me anything extra. My only increases in expenses are due to food and a bit more water and leccy.

  13. My wife's cousin has just been refused a family visit visa for the following reasons.

    1. No evidence proving she is a first cousin
    2. No evidence that her sponsor can adequately accomodate her.
    3. That she can meet the cost of return journey to Thailand.
    4. Money in her bank books eratic and that her claimed income does not match her employment.

    The answers I can provide

    1. We will obtain my wifes mother's marriage document which will show the same maiden names.
    2. zoopla description of our property. I have sponsored 3 nieces and my wifes sister for visits and they have all stayed in the same bedroom which has been exclusively theirs during their stay. A photo of our prpoerty was included in the application
    3. A print out from the travel agent was also submitted that was for a return ticket bought in Thailand.
    4. If she had had an interview then she could have explained that money had been lent to her sister to help her sisters business and a lot of it had been converted into gold, would a photo of the gold do here?

I sent adequate proof of contact phone records photos of family gatherings and also a letter of invitation, travel itinaries, financial status etc etc

I am particularly aggreaved as she was not given an interview, that suddenly the accomodation that was adequate is not longer accepted as such and that the the ECO could not see that the travel agents itinary was for a return trip.

    Should we appeal or re-submit?

  14. It is a good example of why western men should never get married to Thai's expecially isan .

Thai's marry 45-75 y/old semi retired or retired farangs for their money /oseas residency and work rights and the prized possession of a farang passport.

Thais never marry farang for love or companionship. The reason they work bar or go on the net is to get away from their dreadful Thai men.

Find a retired farang with 2 income streams and jump on the money train.

    Its that simple.

If it were up to me i would ban all Thai -farang marriages.

Its always one -way with thais. What we can give them not what they can give us.

In my opinion the British are the most gullible when it comes to marriages in the tropics.

I CONGRATULATE the British government for taking a tough stance. She is a parasite...dump her.

Not so!! I've been married to a Thai 23 years my junior for 15 years. She's a gem and I wouldn't change her for the world. Genuine marriages do exist I have friends who have been married 20 and 29 years with no problems and obvious genuine affection for each other. If we broke up tomorrow I can honestly say that I've had 15 years of happiness which is dam_n site more that I had in a previous marriage with an Engish woman.
