  1. That is a shocker.  I'm perplexed.  I'm here on an OA visa.  Which I extended to a 2-year stay by going in and out on the Visa 1 week before it expired.

I'm 100 percent sure, that I am not allowed to work in Thailand.  I don't work in Thailand.  I have been here more than 450 days now, and I doubt I owed tax on anything other than the VAT that gets stolen from me whenever I buy something.

    Please explain.

I live in a condo myself and a quiet parrot would be nice, as long as the neighbors does not get suspicious. Let me know if you find one.

The Norwegian blue is a dead parrot so I prefer a live one.

The African Senegal is a very quiet parrot.  They rarely screech.  While their stature is tiny, they have a big personality.  I also had African Greys and Amazons.  I wouldn't recommend either of them where noise could be an issue.

Why don't you go harrass lawyers and politicians.

Harrassing poor working class is so petty.

Who goes around harrassing the poorest 10% in the world?

Apparently must be deluded in the thinking that one these taxi drivers are poor. What evidence do you have the backs up this assertion? The only harassment the took place was the taxi driver who violated Ty Law by not wanting to use the meter. And it wasn't just that he didn't want to use the meter it was that he wanted to charge me 200 baht for 60 Baht ride.

In most parts of the world we call this fraud. We also call it lying, when the perpetrator tells me something's wrong with the meter or he doesn't have to use the meter.

I was taking a sick cat to the Animal Hospital and I didn't want to wait for an Uber so I figured I would grab a cab since it was a straight line from the hospital to my condo. But this is good news for Uber because I will normally never take a taxi. And why should I?

I can get an Uber and I know it's clean. I know the driver will be pleasant. I know the driver will not charge me anything extra that I didn't agree to, it's all handled buy the app. No money ever changes hands in the Uber or the grab.

But why don't you stand on the street corner and give away your money and do it for me and do it everyday then come to me and tell me what a good so you are that you can don't the thievery from the oppressed working man here in Thailand.

I'm just curious about one thing though, do you cancel your own children with that Stockholm syndrome like thinking?

Yes, I'm sure.  Uh huh.  So they have info on President Trump, but they are organizing sex seminars in Pattaya.  Yeah, sounds legitimate to me.

  5. I want to acquire a Senegal Parrot.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senegal_parrot

I'm sure there are reputable breeders here.  Or if you have a parrot (any kind) and you are leaving, contact me.  I have owned parrots for over 30 years.  If you are looking to rehome your bird, let's chat.  Otherwise, I would appreciate recommendations for a good store and or reputable breeder.

I live in a condo, so the choice of Senegal is largely based on my having owned one for many years, and that they are quiet parrots.

I would never bring a Conure into a condo for example.

In our home, we have rooms separated by doors, including the bedroom. It is a self-contained room, that's usually un-used +-12 hours of the day. So, while I might run the air purifier a few hours before we come in for bed at night, it wouldn't make sense to run it there 24 hours straight.

If anything, I'd move the air purifier unit or use a second unit into the separate living room/kitchen area where we are the rest of the time when we're home, which probably would account for about the other 12 hours. Again, another entirely separate, self-contained area.

Perhaps the solution is to move to Singapore.  I notice, that no matter how bad it is in Asia, it is all green in Singapore.

I'm certainly hoping I'm not going to be on a new Filtrette sheets every 7-10 days cycle... And the PM2.5 readings in BKK haven't even been that high this past week... Though I suspect a lot of what's getting caught in the Filtrette sheets are the larger particles. (BTW, the permanent filter surface behind the Filtrette sheets was absolutely clean at least from a visual check, not a speck on anything to be seen on the permanent filters.)

I spoke with 3M in the USA.  They told me the Filtrete sheets should last 90 days max.

THE THAI Meteorological Department (TMD) will soon announce the start of summer in Thailand, which could see temperatures peak at 42-43 degrees Celsius during April, Nation TV reporter for environment news Ittipat Pinraroj said on Wednesday.

What happens if they don't announce it? Can I turn off my aircons?

Seriously?  Where would they turn in the money they found? I see, so they turn it into the local police.  I'm sure that money would find its way to the rightful owner.  Uh huh.

Before I would have done anything with it, I would have examined it closely.  There are hundreds of videos that explain how to check a bill to be authentic.

I almost screwed up big time in this regard. I had to go back to Massachusetts to see my dad, who was dying from cancer. I booked and paid for  two tickets for me and my daughter, aged 12.

My wife had to stay behind to care for her own parents, who are also elderly.

But at the last minute I realized my daughter's Thai passport had expired. An expat friend of mine who used to be an Immigration Volunteer informed me that it would be impossible for her to fly out on her American passport, which was a shocking surprise to me.

It took a completely stress-filled day to get her an 'emergency' passport applied for here in Songkhla Town, then a great friend in Bangkok picked it up at the Foreign Ministry in Bangkok for me and let us crash at his place for a few hours before the nightmare flight back to Boston. (with a 12-hour layover in HK)

One of the most hectic experiences I have ever been through...We did make it back and got to spend time with my dad before he passed away. RIP to the best person I have ever known.

So I guess the lesson I learned is that  you need to keep two valid passports at all costs to take advantage of all the considerable privileges these kids have by having dual citizenship.

Of course!  You have no idea what could happen here.  Having a USA passport for your daughter is invaluable.  What if they decided no one could leave Thailand but foreigners?  Think it couldn't happen?  I wish I had two passports.

Thanks for posting the EN manual... So as I read it, it says to replace the HEPA filter at least every 4500 hours.

Since we would probably run the unit in our bedroom about 12 hours per day, that works out to a bit over one year of use per filter.

Half the daily usage in hours, and double the recommended lifespan of the filter. Though, I kind of wonder if the Hatari filter lifespan recommendations take into account the really poor and dusty air quality in many areas of Thailand, including CM and BKK.

If you weren't running your AC at the same time, and just had windows open, I don't see how the purifier would keep up.

I run my units 24/7.  I figure it takes a few hours to get the particulates from the air when shut off, so why shut them off.  When I come home, I want to breathe clean air.  If the windows are open I won't run it.  There would be no point.  I wouldn't open my windows unless the outside air was acceptable.

Re the abovementioned Hatari model, it would be interesting to know/see just what kind of supposed tech specs it has for its HEPA filtration.

As with many products, marketing terms seem to have muddied the meaning and reality of HEPA filters, as you can see from the Amazon.com excerpt below:

    5a957e22c5c22_HEPAFilterTypes.jpg.117740875c58d3aa81027de34a23fd14.jpg

At home, my Honeywell 50250 air purifier is a "True HEPA Filter" model, meaning 99.97% supposed efficiency.

    So, is the Hatari model:

--a regular HEPA filter model, 85%+

--a True HEPA filter model, 99.97%+

--or a HEPA-type filter model, which is who knows what?

The Hatari manual seems to suggest True HEPA filter status:

Hatari claims to get .03 microns which would be HEPA.  I wasn't aware there was a TRUE Hepa and just a Hepa.  Perhaps it's a Thai thing.

Just a question for those who are using the Hatari air filter machines: what's your situation with obtaining replacement filters?

I was at my local Home Pro store in BKK yesterday, and saw they had a Hatari model and several other brands on display.

The Hatari Filter was the only one Homepro Big C Lad Prao had in stock.  They had 20 of them.

You can buy it online as well.

  14. I bought two of the Hatari purifiers.  I have 40 sqm in the main room and probably 20 sqm in the bedroom.  I run the one in the main room anytime I am in it. I only turn it off to sleep and the one in the bedroom is running while we sleep.  My nose can't tell the difference.  I don't know how well these units work but as they are rated for 32 sqm and will handle a larger room if there are no walls or partitions, I can't imagine that the air isn't getting clean.

Now to the poster who said he had one of these using the same filter for 2 years, they only rate the filter for 4000 hours or 6 months of use.

Can someone explain what PLASMA does vs Ionization?
