It pains me to see the amount of people totally unprepared. That's the reason its mayhem down there. Why on Earth do people subject themselves to the photocopy lady. She is slow and the lines are long.

Get your copies sorted before you arrive. All the information and forms are available online to download.

Get a place in the line with QueQ app and it's simple. They can't make it any easier for you.

But I think you're right, people were banking on more amnesty and failed.

Unfortunately sometimes it isn't that easy.

Yes, I downloaded the forms online and read all information pertaining to what was required and made 2 copies of everything.

Upon arrival at the IO, was told both forms were incorrect and was handed new updated forms to fill out. I studied the new forms and couldn't find any difference from the ones I'd downloaded and already completed.

Then I was told they needed 4 copies of one particular doc. I looked at the list of docs required pinned to her desk window and it was the same as the online list, 2 copies. I decided not to argue and just go to the copier.

Upon returning I was then asked to provide a doc that was not on their requirement list. Luckily I had a copy on my phone and went next door to pay an additional 100 baht for 2 copies.

So it really doesn't matter how prepared you are, if you aren't paying a bribe through an agent then they will just send you round in circles to remind you that using an agent is what they desire!

  2. British guy unaware of his surroundings because focused on his phone.

Thai guy made a genuine mistake bumping into him, but this has happened all around the world, millions of times every day for hundreds of years resulting in a simple apology.

It’s only recently with the advent of mobile phones, that people are oblivious to their surroundings & thus react disproportionally to what has actually happened, because their mobile is more precious to them than money!

  3. Mate that's absolutely desperate stuff. What is it supposed to prove?

Look here's four countries and a continent and if we add them together they spend more than one country. Woohoo!!

Plus you have UK and Europe in there together and even when Brexit happens, UK will still be European.

Pus, the Indian population recently exceeded the Chinese population.

I have a little question you might consider. Would Thailand prefer the combined 7.4bn in your dodgy numbers or would they like the Chinese to off and take the 4.3bn on it's own?

I answered a previous comment stating Chinese outspend & outnumber farang, which is factually incorrect.
If they’d stated Chinese outnumber British or American then yes, that would be correct.

If one was to leave Thailand that you are suggesting, then they’d prefer the 4.3b from farang to the 3.1b from Chinese I’d imagine.
Thailand needs more tourists so why would they choose to alienate people from one of their largest markets?

  4. A pretty pointless set of figures
    No source
    No trend
    No analysis
    No comment

What is indicated in the other posts is that the amounts spent by Chinese is set to bourgeon and in some places is already exceeding all-comers.
New visa-less entry being considered should further increase their share of the market.
Unless faring hoteliers and the like prepare for Chinese and Indian customers they will use out big time.

PS - as Chinese outnumber all orther nationalities it doesn't really matter if their "average" spend is half that of Brits as they outnumber them some many to one. The total coming into Thai coffers dwarfs that of the west.

The above figures are average spend per tourist per trip.

Yes, Chinese outnumber all other nationalities due to having the worlds largest population, but if you group farang countries together, they then outnumber and also outspend the Chinese by a whopping 1.2 billion baht over a 6 month period.

Following figs incl U.K., USA, Russia, Australia & Europe but excludes Scandinavia, Canada & NZ:-

Total income from Farang tourists = 4.3 billion
Total income from Chinese tourists = 3.1 billion

There’s also been a drop of 7% Chinese tourists compared to the same period last year.

  5. Yes. The very institutions that are basically bought and paid for by governments that are owned by massive corporations. As consumers, it is incumbent upon us to be discriminating. Fake sweeteners ARE dangerous. Use them at your own peril.

A widely circulated email 20 years ago cited aspartame as the cause of numerous diseases. This was proven to be an absolute hoax.

Further emails & false online reports have continued with other heath scares such as diabetes(although diabetic specialists support the use of aspartame, rather than sugar for diabetics!), chronic mental illness etc etc, which have all proven to be completely false.

Aspartame has been found to be safe by more than 90 countries worldwide with FDA officials describing it as one of the most thoroughly tested and studied food additives the agency has ever approved and its safety as clear cut.

  6. The last I knew (unless the rules have changed), sellers set their starting bid price, reserve price, and "buy it now" price (never mind the scam of "cheap item, expensive shipping"), so why do you think they have nothing to do with how much an item sells for?  They have every control over that-- they can even pull and relist an auction if it's not shaping up to make as much as they wanted.

Again, nobody's selling things at a loss.  They may not be making as much of an up-front profit as some people (you can bet they're probably finding another place to make it up, though; they don't sell to you cheap out of the goodness of their heart and because it's their act of charity to spend their time and money just so you can buy things cheap), or perhaps the item is of cheaper quality than you could find elsewhere, but trust me, they're selling that item for more than they got it for.

Meanwhile, how much are you paying in shipping to make up for that cheaper price?

Postage is capped on eBay. Whichever category the item is listed, it has an appropriate max postage that they can charge.

    Nobody’s selling at a loss?
What about the private sellers, listing items at 99p with no reserve? There are more private sellers than business sellers. 2nd hand items that are unwanted? Rare and obsolete items that are unavailable anywhere else in the world, that the sellers list with no reserve as they are unaware of how much the item is worth? The price to be decided by the buyer.

Personally I find and buy items on eBay at half the cost of any shop here in Thailand. Even eBay sellers within Thailand sell their goods cheaper than any shop here.

  7. Did I say that?  No.  Read the entirety of my post.  I said that if eBay does away with auctions, then they're not different from Amazon.  And if a seller wants to sell an item at a "bargain price," then yes, they could technically sell it for that same price on Amazon.

Anyway, as I told someone else, do whatever you want.  I'll do whatever I want.  Why it bothers you so much that I choose not to use eBay when it affects you not one jot, I haven't a clue.

It doesn’t bother me at all. I simply answered all your statements with the correct information. If your happy purchasing goods at a price set by the seller, that enables them to make a good profit from you, then go ahead. Id much rather buy an item at a price set by what the buyer thinks is fair.

I don’t believe that your aware of how eBay works. Selling an item at a bargain price is not decided by the seller, it’s decided by the buyer, so they couldn’t sell it at the same price on amazon as there aren’t any auction type listings.

eBay sellers can most definitely make a loss, hence the thousands of bargains each day. An auction can end at 1p or £1,000,000. Auctions happen all around the world, dating back centuries.

eBay have millions of users daily and have been operating for 25 years. If they withdrew auction type listings then yes you are correct, they’d just be like all other online sites and they would also lose most of their customers.

I haven't been on eBay in years... I don't understand what it has become.  It started out as a sort of vast online garage sale for people to sell their stuff, and had an auction type format (which, really, is sort of silly-- just price your item and let the first person who sees/wants it buy it, without the auction runaround, but I suppose it was some sort of game people enjoyed playing or something), but then it started becoming inundated with commercial vendors selling new items en masse (and went more and more to fixed-price, not that that was necessarily a bad thing but it wasn't the model eBay was built on), which is when I stopped using it-- I got sick of sorting through new stuff in search of unique itemsIf I want new stuff, there are plenty of stores around, both online and "in real life," and all are easier to use than eBay.  These days I imagine it's pretty much all the new-stuff vendors, so I don't even know what its point might be anymore, since it's not different than other sites like Amazon.

Auction type format(sort of silly?) - Why is buying items at a small fraction of their worth and cheaper than anywhere else silly?

Sick of sorting though new stuff? - Simply add the word 'used' to your search.

Plenty stores around online/real life and easier to use? - Why spend your time & money travelling around numerous shops in the hope of finding what you want?

Not different than other sites like Amazon? - Didn't realise Amazon started using auction style listings enabling people to win an item at a bargain price?
