  1. sorry for my late response about your Christmas gift. One really good place to look for furniture items would be the cluster of furniture outlets in Lamphun. For location search Google Map - Noppadol Furniture Factory (one of the big stores there). Items are sold at "factory price". They don't deliver but can arrange delivery service. They charge by per trip so it's not worth it if u are getting just 1 or 2 items. I brought back a teak bench (plus a few smaller items) on my Dmax. The bench costs THB5300 bargained down from displayed price THB5500. Yes, most stores have prices posted on the items.

Member bamboozled mentioned Kham Tieng flower market. Some months back i saw many such benches at a furniture fair there. It looked to me to be a permanent feature. They claimed the furniture were made by prison inmates, so it's cheaper than retail. You may check if it's still there.

  2. Go south Chang Klan Road until reach the river. Just after the turn there's Baan Rim Nam Restaurant. Further down another 1 km there's the newer Tha Nam Restaurant.

Riverside dining. Serve Thai cuisine. Live Thai pop music. Early evening is usually local family crowd. Inexpensive. The place i host dinner for visitors from home country and so far all liked it.

If u have dined here, forget about Good View @ Riverside. Too crowded and noisy. Go to Goodview @ Mae Hia.

  3. Have visited dozens of Hard Rocks (long story short, used to be forever working so whenever I got any time off I'd go away somewhere & it became a standing joke with the ex-Mrs to randomly pick a HRC to visit, me for a beer, her for the T-Shirt & Teddy) but I do like the pool at the one in Bali, nothing better than hiring a cabana for the day & as the mood takes you swimming across to the pool bar for a cold Bintang.
BTW, somebody mentioned KL, HRC there is full of freelancers, never knowingly seen them in any other one.

dunno about KL. As for Bali there's lots of FL hang out at foyer outside the Rock Shop entrance. More in the moto parking across the street.
And Shanghai, when it was operating, was packed with FL.

  4. Have you tried the Samsung Service centre on the north side of the moat?

Thanks. Went there yesterday. Found no joy there too. Gave me the same damn procedure -

Call the Bangkok service center. Only they can authorise ChiangMai service center to pick up the item back to shop for evaluation. No on-site service at customer premises. Will get a quotation 1-2 weeks because long line of repair jobs. Minimum service charge will be imposed but only Bangkok center can advise the amount.

Her parting shot - item is out of warranty. It's wiser to get it repaired "outside".

Absurd customer service. Wonder why and what are they here for?

  5. im in need of a repairman to take a look at Samsung washing machine. Bought from Big C November last year so it's effectively out of warranty. It worked fine until the spin-dry stage then the spin began to drag as if there is something resisting the spin. Actually the machine had just been moved and i suspect something inside it may had dislodged.

I inquired with Big C and they told me to find a shop to repair it. Claimed they do not have Samsung Service number here in Chiang Mai and gave me the Bangkok service centre number. They cant even help to at least point me to a repair shop. Call the Bangkok number and they wanted me to bring the damn thing to their shop (in Chiang Mai). Repair will take 2-3 weeks. They dont make house call or delivery after repair.

seem like it's impossible to find a repair man in Chiang Mai. I had a similar experience last year with my Hitachi water pump. In the end i just go to Global get a new replacement.

  6. Thanks dingdongrb for sharing. I will be watchful with the prices now. Usually i don't compare, just grab what i need.
It makes me recall a similar case i experienced in Tesco Lotus last year. After loading 2 cartons 6-bottle Heineken into the cart, i happened to take a glimpse at the shelf and noticed that per bottle if added up was marginally cheaper than per carton. But i dismissed the extra difference as "packaging cost". Imagine having to clutch 12 bottles home?
