Marriage Visa --Retirement visa
Besides the 400000THB in the bank yearly what are the advantages and disadvantages
I read somewhere you can apply for a work permit??
Thanks for the feedback

I am afraid my experience with them was not good. The doctor spoke practically no English and he seemed preoccupied...
The bridge work was adequate although there was an infection that needed to be treated after the work was done
I do not recommend them.

Wow did this topic undergo a metamorphosis!!

A key distinction apart from the B400k is that you can get a work permit on a marriage extension which is not possible on a retirement extension. This might be handy for anyone who wants to take up a job that might not last long. If the job comes to end, no change to your visa. Against this you have to weigh up what happens if your marriage comes to an end or your wife predeceases you as well as the additional hassle of scrutiny of your marriage and the wife having to go with you every year to renew.
If you have no intention of working and the 800k is not a problem, getting a retirement extension in your own right is clearly a better option.
Hi
Interesting stuff
I am about to marry a Thai national - I am American, 68 years old.... If I apply for an extension of stay marriage visa, could I then
apply for a work permit.?. .. Can this process be repeated each year?
I would supply 400k in my bank each year.
As I understand it the paperwork would be lighe and privacy issues maintained.
Thanks

Hi
Thanks for the reply's
Well I guess it takes about 10 months for the k-3 visa to be issued. I would apply asap
We would like to move to the usa this summer..
Can we go on the tourist visa I have for my wife and wait there till the K-3 visa is issued - I guess we would have to return to
Thailand for this to happen??
Thanks

Hi
I am about to be married to a Thai Lady. She currently has a 10 year tourist visa.. I am retired.
Clearly my status will change here in Thailand -- marriage visa... I guess..
Will the marriage here in Thailand allow us to go back to the states and live there a year or two..
What kind of application must I make to the US embassy in Chiang Mai.
What are the odds so to speak of being successful here. She does speak and understand English fairly well.
We have been together for 4 years +
Any and all help greatfully appreciated

A couple of points.
1) I've only sent 3 thing's to Thailand from the UK. One by regular post, just some t-shirts etc It never arrived.
The other two by DHL, got there in 4 days. Expensive, but well worth it.
2) In certain countries it's illegal to send prescription drugs through the post - aren't they cheaper in Thailand anyway? Same goes for certain types of battery. In my experience using DHL they won't seal the package until the driver turn's up and inspects the contents.
From the UK Post Office:

Medicare makes it considerably cheaper to buy in the USA

Hi all
Recently a package send by regular mail from the USA was lost or stolen. I have checked with the local post office and no one can trace it
It had some medications, camcorder battery (used) and my mail for 3 months. Have others had this experience?
Customs has not bothered me via the regular mail route. It is also cheaper than the other carriers.
Strictly speaking however, it is not ok to send medications through the mail.
Does anyone have any experience with the other carriers mentioned. Does customs check everything when sent in this way?
Is there a chance my medications would be confiscated by customs? How about used personal items?
Many Thanks for all the useful information provided now and in the past

I stuck with CAT CDMA, no more landlines in Thailand !!!!
Using CDMA for 8 months and it was down only once, still way better then previous TOT, TTT & 3BB lines that was one big frustration.
I suggest you get the updated driver for the CDMA stick only via their website here , that helped me 3 weeks ago when it was near to down.
And how about your PC maintanance, RAM, Internet settings etc are they optimized ? I do it every day and it helps to make my system running well.
Thanks for this - downloaded the driver - I have a macbook pro.. No change in speed though...
Every thing seems ok in system prefs..

Well I had TOT - very low speeds and poor service.
Now I have a CAT CDMA modem that delivered acceptable speeds for about 4 months.
Now its down to .3mb/sec and I am looking around for a new provider.
The CAT service man is supposed to come out and check the computer but it hasn't happened yet
Does any member have any bit of insight that might help me choose my next provider .
I live in San Khlang area - so a bit far out. Close to Makkro
Thanks

Hi
Yes see a doctor first! Lots of good ones in CM.
I have had a good experience with acupuncture at Mukalla( not sure of the spelling) here in Chiang Mai
should that be a way to go for you.. Was pretty painless and he was gentle.
Peace
