OMG people... enough already. President Trump wasn’t that bad, other than when he incited an insurrection against the government, mismanaged a pandemic that killed nearly half a million Americans, separated children from their families, lost those children in the bureaucracy, tear-gassed peaceful protesters on Lafayette Square so he could hold a photo op holding a Bible in front of a church, tried to block all Muslims from entering the country, got impeached, got impeached again, had the worst jobs record of any president in modern history, pressured Ukraine to dig dirt on Joe Biden, fired the FBI director for investigating his ties to Russia, bragged about firing the FBI director on TV, took Vladimir Putin’s word over the US intelligence community, diverted military funding to build his wall, caused the longest government shutdown in US history, called Black Lives Matter a “symbol of hate,” lied nearly 30,000 times, banned transgender people from serving in the military, ejected reporters from the White House briefing room who asked tough questions, vetoed the defense funding bill because it renamed military bases named for Confederate soldiers, refused to release his tax returns, increased the national debt by nearly $8 trillion, had three of the highest annual trade deficits in U.S. history, called veterans and soldiers who died in combat losers and suckers, coddled the leader of Saudi Arabia after he ordered the execution and dismembering of a US-based journalist, refused to concede the 2020 election, hired his unqualified daughter and son-in-law to work in the White House, walked out of an interview with Lesley Stahl, called neo-Nazis “very fine people,” suggested that people should inject bleach into their bodies to fight COVID, abandoned our allies the Kurds to Turkey, pushed through massive tax cuts for the wealthiest but balked at helping working Americans, incited anti-lockdown protestors in several states at the height of the pandemic, withdrew the US from the Paris climate accords, withdrew the US from the Iranian nuclear deal, withdrew the US from the Trans Pacific Partnership which was designed to block China’s advances, insulted his own Cabinet members on Twitter, pushed the leader of Montenegro out of the way during a photo op, failed to reiterate US commitment to defending NATO allies, called Haiti and African nations “<deleted>hole” countries, called the city of Baltimore the “worst in the nation,” claimed that he single handedly brought back the phrase “Merry Christmas” even though it hadn’t gone anywhere, forced his Cabinet members to suggested the US should buy Greenland, colluded with Mitch McConnell to push through federal judges and two Supreme Court justices after supporting efforts to prevent his predecessor from appointing judges, repeatedly called the media “enemies of the people,” claimed that if we tested fewer people for COVID we’d have fewer cases, violated the emoluments clause, thought that Nambia was a country, told Bob Woodward in private that the coronavirus was a big deal but then downplayed it in public, called his exceedingly faithful vice president a “p---y” for following the Constitution, nearly got us into a war with Iran after threatening them by tweet, nominated a corrupt head of the EPA, nominated a corrupt head of HHS, nominated a corrupt head of the Interior Department, nominated a corrupt head of the USDA, praised dictators and authoritarians around the world while criticizing allies, refused to allow the presidential transition to begin, insulted war hero John McCain – even after his called an African-American Congresswoman “low IQ,” threatened to withhold federal aid from states and cities with Democratic leaders, went ahead with rallies filled with maskless supporters in the middle of a pandemic, claimed that legitimate investigations of his wrongdoing were “witch hunts,” seemed to demonstrate a belief that there were airports during the American Revolution, demanded But other than that.....- 280 replies

Just because someone supports Trump doesn't mean they have a low I.Q. or are even stupid. Uninformed and/or misinformed perhaps. Calling people who support him stupid does not help bring country together or cause these people to come to the other side -- it's counterproductive. There are people who are "single issue" voters. For example - they would vote for the devil himself as long as he was against abortion.

Da Nang and a few other places look great to me -- but I wouldn't want to do a visa run every 90 days -- that is a deal killer for me. That whole thing scares me -- what if I get sick and can't do the run? ..or I get too old and it's too tiring to do it? What if for some reason they don't let me back in? I would spend my entire retirement time worrying about it. -

hmmm -- that is something I will have to think about - what is the break-even point on the exchange rate before it's not any better than being in the USA -- seems like something obvious I should of been able to come up with on my own lol -- guess that is one of the reasons I'm on this site learning lol. So what you're saying is that right now the cost of everything you buy is about the same as Australia except for housing? I was thinking that the housing, food, and healthcare would all be cheaper (mind you I'm in USA)... and those are the biggest expenses I expect to have. I wouldn't expect to buy much "stuff" on a regular basis so I think the exchange rate would have to shift quite a bit to make it it not worth it. I will have to do some math .... -

ah well that explains the 200 baht price then. 20 baht is like 60 cents USA money though? Are you saying that you can't afford 60 cents and would rather walk 5km with a walker? This seems rather odd. -

Forgive me as I haven't bothered to really read many posts on this site yet -- but I'm wondering as to why you think this individual is thief and why you think it would be a good idea to cause physical harm to him (or anyone for that matter) with an automobile? I gather I've missed something? -

lol - well it's most of the Republican party that would want to do that. Trump has said he wants to end taxing Social Security income so that would be in my favor (not that you can actually believe anything he says of course, plus he is an idiot lol). The real problem is that it's projected to run out of money by 2035 if congress doesn't do something to fix it and that could result in a 20% reduction in benefits. The looming insolvency is driven by demographic shifts, including an aging population and lower birth rates, which have resulted in fewer workers supporting more retirees. All the baby-boomers hitting retirement age is a big deal. My assumption is that they will simply raise taxes somewhere to keep it solvent -- but even if not and a 20% cut happens I think I could live comfortable by the beach in Thailand ok with $2400 a month and if I bring someone with me, between the two of us we'd have double that. -

I'm curious as to what is on the buffet --- someone said it's 200 baht? That's like $6 USA - and if you ate enough to fill yourself up for the whole day that doesn't seem bad. I looked at the menu prices and naturally the western food looks pricey-- a ribeye steak is 899thb -- which is about $27 USA -- so not a great price. From what I've read in my research, western food is expensive, so I was planning on pretty much giving up a lot of that when I eventually move over there. It looks like the pork and chicken from the markets and street venders is the cost effective way to get meat. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm in the learning stage here lol. -

I read all this because I plan to leave the USA when I retire (still 7 or so years away) and I've been doing tons of research over the past 10 years trying to find a place with tropical climate, beach, affordable, and good health care. I understand that the world changes all the time and what I find now might not be the same in a few years -- but I figure the more research I do the better decision I'll make when the time comes. Thailand seems to be one of the best options I've found - the housing costs are great, the food is tasty and inexpensive (I guess I'll avoid eating a subway?) - you can get good health care insurance for a reasonable price (for sure if you compare it to the USA), and there are nice beaches. From my calculations it looks like it would cost me less than 25% of what I would spend in south Florida by the beach (assuming it isn't wiped out by a hurricane) - so this bit of it costing too much doesn't seem accurate, .. at least for me anyway. The other plus I've found regarding Thailand as that it IS possible to get a Visa to stay long term and not have to do a border run every 90 days -- and when I'm older I'm not going to what to deal with that. I've looked at Vietnam and the country itself seems just as good and actually probably better in a lot of ways - however there is no long term Visa you can get from what I see other than some sort of business thing that would cost a whole lot more money than I will have. Even though the Thailand Elite Visa is expensive I might still opt for that because of all the benefits it comes with. There are other places I'm looking into of course -- Portugal, Maurtius, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Belize, Panama, Greece --- I've researched all of these and a few more... but I still always end up thinking Thailand would be best. One setback compared to like Panama for example is the distance from the USA -- needless to say Panama, Costa Rica etc are a lot closer to the USA than Asia -- but that alone is not enough to sway my decision. Anyway -- for the person that started this thread -- heck I would just spend a little time trying to find cheaper places to eat and shop. It looks to me (although I'm an outsider not living there or even been there) that you could find cheaper stuff there. I don't see how one could live in Australia for the same cost of living as you should be able to do in Thailand. I lived in Waikiki Hawaii for 10 years and loved it -- but OMG it was soooo expensive. The rental in Hawaii was $6000+ a month and in Thailand the same thing is like $700. Obviously if I'm getting less than $3,000 a month from social security and only have maybe $100,000 to start out with Hawaii or even Florida are not viable options... but Thailand sure looks like I would be just fine -- not rich - but quite comfortable.
