  1. I noticed this topic was started elsewhere and was shut down rather suddenly.  Its such an important issue I really feel it should be a sticky

Let me summarise my position in a word DONT

As a flang you have no legal rights worth a damn

It doesnt confer you any special extra rights to residency

    WARNING

You become jointly responsible for your wife's debts

Dont imagine you can argue your way out of responsibility sayiing you didnt know  when the debt collector heavies come for you to break your legs (&(**&%

What you may not realise is that when your duckling gets a marriage doc with your name on it, suddenly her credit rating goes through the roof aand you wonder where she got the ability to buy a new 1mill bhat pickup on tick

It doesnt stop there, the more she borrows the more she can borrow, new tractor, excavator 3mill, 10 wheel truck transporter 3 mill - out of control

I got my grab bag and left PDQ on pretext of a visa run.  I darent go back cos I dont know what is waiting for me

TRUE story  (one of many I could tell)

A swiss guy was involved with a local woman and he decided to settle down and build a 6 room villa off the highway (B3mIll), he then got involved with the CP (Chicken People scam), bought some more land and built a chicken farm B3mill).  Madam got bored with this and didnt look after it, the chicks all died of bird flu - very common every year.  So she took the car he bought her(B1.5mill) and went off to Poipet gambling weekends.  She ran up debts (B3Mill) and returned and Swiss man ws surprised to see heavies at his door demanding money with interest.  He had to pay up  Then He built her a classy  roadside Sala style restaurant with garden filled with exotic plants  B5mill).  She got bored with this because canny thais wouldnt pay her prices and locals hated her anyway. So she got bored and went gambling again Yup (B3mill) debt again  = £60,000.  Hubby came back from Swiss visa run to be confronted by heavies again - he had to pay up.  Very shortly after he disappeared - presumably back home and lst I heard all propertied were rapidly over grown with tamarind trees

    GUYS this is 100% true

  2. btw you think mr T is having a fun time in Dubai - have you ever lived there? I have

What do you think he can do as a square face - holed up in his penthouse sending out lackies for takeaway khao pats.

Its a very closed society for hiso of the levantine persuasion. Even his mega bucks wouldnt open many doors

Kind of luxury open prison for him

  3. someone is having a giraff here. no economic justification of multibillion dollar project to shinawatraburi unless there's a mountain of copper there like the tanzam railway

just shows what low calibre press you have - bunch of wild kids in a playground

Oh btw does anyone remeber the Khorat airport built at the urging of an influential person - 30 kms outside of the city, no transport, not even taxis. Thai ran it for a while and you could get a ticket for 500b from bkk so it was cheaper than the bus(120B) but you were in the middle of nowhere and it only suited me cos I had an OH who would collect with our pickup

lots of staff milling around picking their noses and few passengers on the twice a day schedule

    what a joke

Thai closed it after humungous losses

    Does that tell you something

bit like the Buriram airport near 40 mins drive away. I used that once, never again. I flew on a museum piece turbo prop japanese ysl 11 powered by a RR dart from 1949. I looked it up ther were only 4 registered airworthy 2 in the south seas as air rescue, other one dont know and this one flying me from buriram - TIT the journey took 2 hours to bkk i guess they were being careful with the old lady

    High speed BS

  4. Dont you just love this guys

Imagine if an Emirati wanted to sue a prominent Thai in the Thai courts

What would be the outcome - no prizes here - same merde applies in the gulf states

Whats sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander

btw fyi they are very strict in certain aspects of finance. If you ever bounced a cheque there you would be arrested and thrown in jail even if it was accidental. More severe penalties than mauling a guinness bottle - know what i mean

  5. Me too, and *especially* if it's cheap crap made to taste all oaky. Like Blend, 100 Pipers, Johnny Red, etc etc etc.

Then again, alcohol is alcohol and beggars can't be choosers. Still, I much prefer just about any rum like Havana Club or Captain Morgan.

My wife's friend has a small shop and told my wife that she had 3 large bottles of Sang Som for me.

Her husband found them, bagged them up and put them in my truck.

The wife then smiled and charged me 250 baht per bottle as against the 207 I normally pay.

My fault for accepting them so I paid for them.

Foll me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

I am not going to buy anything else from her again even if it is the last bottle of Sang Som in the country and even if she only wanted 20 baht for it.

    OMG isnt that so typical

not to dis your story, mate, but 1000's more tales just like that out there

stay drunk, then you wont notice that shit all around you

    cheers

  6. Cheap distilled products can be very poisonous. Lao Khao is guaranteed to kill you within 2 years - go on try it

I found Snag Som to be a pleasant drink and not too much hang over next morning so must be reasonably pure - better than Gilbeys gin vodka, bit nasty, can smell the stuff on my skin next morning

SS smells more like my tart so i dont notice

Still got supply problem down here in pataya - bummer

but i got a secret little store where i can get it for 260B

  7. Has anyone noticed the deafening silence from Mr YKW who does not appear to be up front helping his poor unfortunate supporters with food and water from his plunder chest.

No headline grabbing even given the ardent support he gets from the media.

I cant look at the pix anymore of those poor people who will be swamped for months

Even if i were allowed to comment on the collective selfish incompetence you would not need any embellishment from me

I wonder what measures have been taken in the inevitable event of water born disease breaking out?

I suppose the kee will really hit the patlom

    BTW

Any of you concerned readers know anything about other third world floods on this scale eg Bangladesh recently?

pls add your info on how it plays out

    Robin

" homes of more than 20,000 people have been completely destroyed by the floodwaters with another 84,000 homes partially damaged.

The magnitude of a flood in 1998 was such that it lasted for over 70 days, which caused many in Bangladesh to question the effectiveness of previous flood control measures "

    http://thewatchers.a...lace-thousands/

Thanks for that insight - its what I feared

The shear volume of upstrem water to be drained south means a similar 70-100 days of misery for the poor residents

  9. Hey Guys

Saudi is a wonderful place to live

    Sunshine all year round

    Beautiful beaches

    Spectacular scenery

    Cheap property and domestics

    Good health care

Cheap booze (ah you didn't know that - 1 litre homebrew shmirnoff blue 80% (equivalent) £3.50)

    Great Shebeens and social life

Wonderful food - try a mutton grab

    Camping and BBQs

and especially welcoming to pink TEFLERs who dominated the teaching trade

You have to experience the frissant when a young camel winks her beautiful long lash brown eyes at you - WOOOAAH

Cant think why all you pervs are living in LOS

  10. Oh My fearful Ajarns

Have you forgotten the wise words of guidance from our benificent square head Leader (suitably headlined in the BKK post) before he got kicked out and branded a common thief.

Thailand does not need foreigners to teach our children. Thais can teach English to our children themselves.

Anyone remember that far back when BKK was filled with bogus barrow boys posing as TEFLERs with Khoa San road degrees but only capable of speaking scumbag slang - happy days.

But this is a very old chestnut

I used to volunteer at my local Town school and we achieved some remarkable success with our English Club. The school tried to persuade me to join their staff(at 20,000B/m- a lot when the head of English only got 15,000) but I didn't want to become part of their corrupt admin and get kicked around.

My position as a volunteer was strictly illegal and I could have easily been locked up but for the protection of the local Pol Capt whose kid was also in my class.

One day he came to me and advise sadly that I should cease and disappear from the area for a while. It transpired that other schools in the area who didn't have any foreign assistance had become jealous and formally complained to the Provincial Governor

    So that was that

The situation hasn't changed. They need native but educated language teaching assistants but place impracticable barriers and bureaucracy in the way. The Hisos don't want the plebs to learn English - so forget it.

  11. Screw me Captain Mannering

This is a refreshing bit of Honesty from the kids - yes of course cheating is ok if you get away with it.

Just look at the UK and MPs expenses

In fact just look at any country's leadership if you want to learn about lying, stealing and cheating

Its just that Thais have turned it into a fun sport.

BTW its fortunate I wasnt born Thai, I'd show them a thing or two

    Robin B'Stard

  12. Ok guys here's the deal

I lay 10 to 1 on that The Man returns triumphantly to LOS within 2 years

OH! sorry pardon, no gambling allowed in LOS, can't take your bets (well not till The Man gets back and opens all those dormant casinos)

like the one on the top floor of a certain appartment complex south of pattaya, now populated by the Bear

    as the song goes

There may be trouble ahead .......

Lets face the music and dance ...... before we get kicked out when The Man gets back.

    Party till you drop

  13. Well Tin table tiplers

Its showdown time and Mr T will finish off one of the things he started which getting rid of you lot

    Remember his famous slogan

Thais dont need foreign help, Thais can help themselves

    and for you teflers specifically

Thais dont need foreigners to teach english, thais can teach themselves

They will simply double the income requirements for yearly visas, easy isnt it? :bah:

    Watch this space

  14. OMG

Its only cos its 3am in los that this topic hasnt yet been flamed.

In fact the effrontary has left me dumbstruck

You only have to keep up with the ever informative TV.com to know there are more than 1 million illegals here already (what would building sites do without them). We are also told of the appalling conditions under which they exist under tacit agreement with big business.

How many thousand Hmongs were forcibly repatriated to Laos recently after existing here for years and almost certain to be treated harshly when they gat back.

What about the hill tribesmen deliberately disenfranchised even though they were established in the hills for centuries

The only thing worse than this is Tony Bliar

  15. FWIW

All electrics in LOS must be treated with suspicion. There is no regulation earthing system in force. Some building will use an earth spike driven into the ground but this is not much help if the ground dries out - best place is near to a septic tank. Other systems Ive seen

anchor a wire to a steel rebar in the structure. This should work but Ive never test its integrity.

The nasty system is when your monkey hammers a masonary nail into a concrete column and then wraps the earth wire around. Wouldnt put my money on that one but its common practice.

My take - never use an electric shower of the older type that doesnt have a safety cutout. Even then press the test button before using the shower. These cutouts do fail particularly in electrical storms. If you see a shower unit connected only by two wires (no separate earth wire visible) then I wouldn't use it. Even if it has an earth wire you can't be sure the earth wire is properly connected (see above) so its chancy.

A safer way is to put the shower head in a bucket and fill it up with hot water. Then switch off the shower at the main switch and have a splash shower.

BTW this is a much safer option with children who are much more vulnerable to electric shock. Keep any electric wires plugs , equipment off the floor and away from toddlers reach. If a kid gets a shock its totally silent no scream or warning cry and you wont know unless you were there instantly. You just find a dead child

If you are staying in an appartment for some time and are faced with an older shower unit without a safety trip then look around for circuit breaker switch nearby. A safety trip switch is generally available as a direct replacement for the simple breaker and will fit inside the existing cover and is easily identified by having a little test button. These cost around B400 from an electrical wholesaler and is a moment's work with a screw driver to change over. Make sure you can switch power off at the main switch first - not always present. If not then its a live changeover and if you are not competent then get an electrician to do it for you. You can always change it out for the original when you leave the appartment so you cant get blamed for anything by the landlord. Thats what I used to do.

If you really want to alarm yourself, carry a simple neon screwdriver around with you. You will be amazed at how much stuff is live - even though it doesnt seem to give you a shock.

Of course the shower is the worst case scenario. Wet bodies large area of contact

A sad accident RIP but a very common one in LOS.

FYI - all electrical circuits leak, there is no perfect insulator, its all a matter of how much leakage there is

A swimmer in sea water can be electrocuted by a little as 8 volts head to toe.

You can get a shock from a 12 volt car battery if your hands are wet from sea water (as in a boat for example)

Another common example - rice cookers - they all leak

My gf went to take out the aluminium bowl full of cooked rice from the cooker. She was standing on the kitchen concrete floor bare footed - as you do. She grabbed the pot and received a nasty jolt causing her to scream obscenities at me and blame me of course. I put a rubber mat on the floor after that cos you cant tell thais anything cos you are a flang and what do you know. Several villagers and children to my knowledge have been electrocuted in this manner.

I have received shocks from the most unlikely sources

A garden wall, where the lamp on top of the wall was leaking

A domestic bakelite light switch which was outside facing sea breezes. The salt spray had built up a microscopic conducting film

A pvc flexible cord attached to a standard lamp - rats had eaten away at the insulation - why do they like PVC?

    Have a nice day

    Robin
