Are they really that violent, given the level of injustice in this country?

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable. John F. Kennedy

I've got an idea for an excellent use for the all-powerful "section 44". The PM can order all of the red shirt leaders (and a few of the yellow fellows as well) to be tattooed on the forehead with the above cited, outstanding JFK quote.

Well If you ask an American living here long enough would probably tell you in details found in this link.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Amity_and_Economic_Relations_(Thailand–United_States)

I am an expat American who has lived here for 20 years. I had a feeling that you would cite the Treaty of Amity as giving Americans some kind of "edge". You couldn't be more wrong in your assumption and statement. The so-called treaty specifically denies land ownership rights. In fact, for the average expat, the treaty offers absolutely nothing, nothing, and nothing...

What they tell you is correct, you cannot buy grass seed here... It is supposedly to protect the rice farmers around Thailand. Only golf courses can buy it and you cannot buy from them either I have tried! .

Best thing to do is buy the turf (much smaller amount than would cover the area fully covered) and make plugs and plant small pieces ... very tedious to do,  but it works, but must be watered  every day sometimes more than once or twice (as you would have to do with seed) ... for a few weeks while it fills in, Plant plugs about 9 " apart staggered in "WWWW" shaped lines...

It works as I have done it over 1/4 rai ... but that kind of area is going to take a bit of time to plant. Do not buy more than you can plant by in a day or two ... as it won't keep well as new turf.

Please ask gardening related questions here ! .

Thanks Jimmy... I guess there is only one thing I can do... Apply for a golf course construction permit.

Thanks.  Would you know the average cost of rent on the island?  Much of what I've researched is aimed a long-term tourist rentals and at what I consider a high price.

There are LOADS of nice rental houses, some in very quiet areas, but not far from HR. Expect to pay around 15k+ per month. There's really no difference between a long-term tourist and a long-term working resident. The prices of everything are the same.

  5. Okay, I know, this is an odd request for information from the good folks on Samui. I'm looking for grass (lawn) seed. I live on Phangan, went to the local seed dealer and was told they don't sell it and can't get it. I have seen grass growing here...Someone must sell seeds. I want to plant about 1 rai for erosion/weed control and beautification.Sod is available but way too pricey. I'm not very familiar with Samui.. Any help out there???

OK guys lets cool it down a little...

I have spoken with several people either living or visiting KP recently, none report any police harassment on even seen a policeman... perhaps this only occurs in the heavy duty bar areas... ?

You're absolutely right Jimmy. I have lived on KP full time for nearly 20 years and in all that time I have been stopped, very briefly, a total of 3 times. The cops did not hassle me at all and made only a cursory check of my bag.

I don't know why people in this forum try and make a problem where none exists.
