  1. Mother in law likes to play with the android DICK app. Funny watching her. Banned from the market, so google it.

    Hehe that is funny.

Not sure my MiL would be impressed, at least not openly, would probably play with it (so to speak) when no one else was watching.

  2. Hehe very good, been driving my gf crazy with it.

Fun to turn the tables from time to time.

She jumped out of her skin the first time, then again when I showed her the picture :)

The random thing seems to loop forever until you press the button again.

Great can wind her up all night lol

  3. Thanks Thaimite,

I just ordered 20 Neo magnets from Icelandic.

They called to confirm the order, almost perfect English, very friendly, very helpful.

Payment was via ATM, goods arrived in 2 working days.

    Faultless :)

  4. Forgot to say I have sourced some Ma Rum, moringa, planted them 2 days ago, eagerly awaiting their growth.

Also made a home made biopod for black solider fly, but so far only blowfly maggots have appeared, I have read that BSF do live in TL, just need to attract them with the right food stuff, I read that mango fruit and milk are a very good initial attractant for them but have been too busy with other stuff to get around to that yet.

Hey trips any updates for us future fish farmers forever

Best thing I have found so far is a small low energy bulb over the tank.

In the rainy season it attracts hundreds of thousands of "Maleng Mau" - termites absolutely adamant on killing themselves.

Enormous quantities of free fish food, only useful for Catfish though, Bpla Nin and Tab Tim don't eat them.

Have had no luck in sourcing Duckweed, and the Nins/tab Tims don't appear to like Moringa, at least in raw form.

Maggot growing was really unsucsessful, just too hot I think, they would grow to a few mm's and then die.

If and when the rains finally come, I will try again at growing maggots.

    Cheers

  6. My trip back was smooth as silk, literally with Thai Airways.

No one shot at me at the airport, which was nice :)

Have had a very busy couple of weeks, the soil here is very sandy and last year I asked the GF to collect cow droppings and make into a big pile which, suprisingly she did actually do.

I mulched three of her small mango trees with rotted cow manure and grass around the trunk, the change was absolutely unreal, new leaf growth within a few days and now the trees look soooo much better, expecting fruit soon !

I think now she believes me that collecting cow pooh is not just another crazy farrang idea :D

Am slowly working more manure into the vegetable garden that she planted last year with her mum.

I also built a small aquaponics system, first results seem to be very good, we have not had any rain at all in nearly 3 weeks, I think aquaponics will work here very well, have had very good growth with beans, melons, and pak bung and the system has not even completed the nitrogen cycle yet !

I have found some 2500 litre tanks that are safe for storing drinking water for 7000 baht, I am waiting for Surin Toyota to deliver the new Vigo so I can go pick them up and make a "proper" aquaponics system.

Am pissed of with Surin Toyota, they told me we could get the car this month, and now they are saying it may be end of next month because I want a black one, they never call back, there's always some other problem, blah blah blah, wat tamma tan thai, I guess, but frustrating nonetheless when you spend nearly 1 million baht on a car and as soon as you give them the deposit they stop caring !!

    chok dee krab all.

    Rich.

I'm traveling back the same day.

I've got my fingers crossed they dont close the airport again.

Sadly I havnt quit my job yet.

    Good luck.

  7. Well I finally quit my job, and move back to Prasat on March 2nd.

Yesterday 27 countries issued travel warnings for Thailand, bloody typical, lol.

Tomorrow is Taksin's hearing, I hope it has all calmed down again by Tuesday.

I am not looking forward to living in Munich airport for a few days if it doesn't.

Good luck all, hope the next few days are peaceful, and we can all get on with our lives.

  8. Hi all,

Was wondering if any of you guys have had experience of growing Duckweed and/or BSF (Black Soldier Fly) Larvae for fish food suplements in Thailand.

I'm coming back to Prasat (hopefully for good this time) in Feb 2010 and want to setup a vermiculture (both for black gold and worms for fish feed) and an aquaponics system.

I've read about the biopod and looked at various DIY attemps to harvest these maggots/หนอน/larvae, but can find no info about whether they are indigenous to Thailand.

Also read about Duckweed and Moringa as very nice food suplements for fish in Thailand, but again, have not been able to source specific information about either.

I read that the Thai word for Moringa is Ma Rom (Ma is often used as a prefix for vegetable like pak) but my GF hasn't heard of it.. any one know the Thai words for Duckweed and or Moringa?

    Chok dee na krab.

    Rich.

  9. It is indeed a great site, with of course the emphasis on all the data is free to use, to do bascially whatever you want with it.

I have been working a lot lately on Chiang Mai, Prasat, Surin and to a lesser extent Pai.

You can download an .exe installer for Mapsource and therefore uploadable to a Garmin device, I believe that there is support for other GPSR's too.

Was deeply satisfying to be using routable maps in Prasat from roads that I created.

In a geeky way, it's kinda addictive too, especially in areas that are unmapped, there is a load of work to do on OSM in Thailand, as the OP said, many of the bigger roads are mapped, but even they need work in terms of routability.

If anyone has tracks/poi's etc etc from a GPRS'r that they would like to share, please PM me (or the OP too proabably... don't want to step on his toes)

I have time and all the tools to add them to OSM at the moment.

    Rich.

If I may tag on a similar request:

I have a bike but my pelvic bone cannot handle the skinny seats. Is there a shop that offers a good selection of wide seats that actually fit a human butt? I am also looking for a wide selection of handlebars.

And please give explicit directions - I get lost easily.

Thanks in advance and see you on the road...?

I solved that problem in the UK by getting a gel-filled saddle cover that just tie-fastens over the skinny seat. Sounds crazy/bizarre - but very comfortable. Don't know if they have made it to Thailand, though...............

Tesco Lotus on the Hang Don road have gel filled covers. Did a month or so ago anyway.

  11. There's plenty of water in Chang Puak.

The streets still look passable but have not ventured far. The garden has developed a large section suitable for aquatic spots.

Enjoyed the storm last night. Power went off briefly an hour or so ago. Can't believe the internet's still going !

    How are others doing ?

dark black totally heavy raining in san kampheng. seems better here in the muang. wonder how high the water is at the ping.

At Narawat bridge 2.56 Metres at midday, bank overflow at 3.7 Metres

  12. I think they must be doing some major upgrading, last week I was unable to use the internet at all for 2 days, most of the time the DSL light was not even lit on the modem.

That indicates a physical disconnection from the network.

Since they finished whatever they were doing, the service has been great, daytime download around 900k, upload 400k which is the best it's been since I moved back here in January.

Hopefully they are upgrading in your area too.

  13. Mine has been basicaly unusable for the last week, certainly during sociable hours.

Between 2am and 7am it's fine, no problems whatsoever, but staying up to do my "stuff" until that time everyday is getting boring.

I get the odd day when it's acceptable, around 100k international, but it doesn't seem to last long.

I ran some tests today and packets of data were taking over 1 minute to get to the US and back again, ubelievable.

  14. ToT has been terrible again this week.

3 weeks now of almost unusable internet, funny thing is, somedays it's ok.

I've just about given up calling them now, will try to get some sort of refund, but don't hold out much hope.

  15. Yep same here, back to normal... in fact slightly better, daytime speeds 600k+ international.

Last night I was getting 850k best I have had since moving back here.

  16. As likite asked, does anyone have a suggestion on how to get TOT to do something? I've been to their Head Office and had the same result as others: Blank Stares.

Does anyone have suggestions on what phone number would be the best for all of us to call?

Indeed... we have drifted opff topic slightly... is there ANYTHING that we can do?

The problem is almost certainly outdated/poorly maintained/over subscribed equipment which will require lots of Baht spent to make it work as we'd all like.

I simply won't pay them if the service does not return to "normal"

An engineer is supposed to be coming to the house tomorrow or Thursday, this of course won't help 'cos the problem is their end not mine.

  17. Interesting that the overall experience of people with ToT seems to be poor.

Mine's been fine for about 6 months, daytime international speeds reasonable, never the 1mbit I pay for but acceptable, and faster than the 512k package they gave me by accident at installation.

The propblem I am having now, and for the last week, happened over night, speeds in the day are totally unacceptable, sometimes less than 1 byte per second....

That is when I can actually log on.

    It's now 2:40am and I'm getting 883kpbs here SpeedTest

I think the most likely explanation is that a peice of equipment has gone down at the exchange (or whereever) and they just haven't replaced it yet... I hope so anyway.

Someone asked if TT&T was any better...

I have a friend with TT&T, he's had it for 2-3 weeks, when it was first installed it was crap, my connection was fine, I think he wished he'd gone for ToT, until now of course when mine is unusable and his is fine.

PS There also seems to be some confusion with some guys about speeds.

Someone said this which is incorrect...

A 55 Kbt/sec dowload speed would be about right for a 1024K connection.

A 1 Megabit (1024k) connection transfers data at 1 million bits per second (roughly), this equates to 100,000 bytes per second (roughly)

So for example Goldcyber 1mbit package should download at 100kbytes/S maximum

I use a download manager that can source file downloads from multiple sources, it is actually possible to get just over 100k bytes per second from the Goldcyber package.

Hope that clears up any confusion :o

  18. Hi,

Any one else getting very poor performance from ToT ADSL for the last week?

Speeds are never spectacular but this week it's been terrible, somedays I can't even log on.

In the day time I usually get speeds of 300-500k (even tho it's a 1m connection) but it's currently running at 5-10k with some hop times (within Thailand) at 3 seconds per hop.

ToT tell me it's a problem with the whole of the North of Thailand, think that's the number one excuse on their "how to get rid of the moaning farrang" list.

I live in Bpa Daet and was wondering if the problem is localised to my exchange, in 6 months it has been pretty good really, but a week of not really being able to use it, is beginning to annoy !!!

    thanks

    Rich.

  19. Are there any places in central CM open late enough to show the the Champions League semi finals next week?

Any suggestions would be sooooooooooo appreciated!

    Cheers!!!

You can try The Wall on Ratchvittee opposite Mr Beer's bike rental, owner is Dutch and enjoys his footy.

If enough people show an interest he will stay open all night if necessary.

This forum seems to require me to say that I have no financial interest in this bar/restaurant, but the owner is a friend :o

  20. I got ABSOULUTELY drenched today along with Chuchok...seems that things died down after 8pm though...I think Songkran is over now

Glad to hear you managed to join in the fun, hope your eye is improving.

I had a great day today, pickup full of people again... amazing how many people wanna be your friend when you have a pickup at Songkran :o
