  1. I got ABSOULUTELY drenched today along with Chuchok...seems that things died down after 8pm though...I think Songkran is over now

Glad to hear you managed to join in the fun, hope your eye is improving.

I had a great day today, pickup full of people again... amazing how many people wanna be your friend when you have a pickup at Songkran :o

  2. If I was staying here, I would choose The Top North Hotel on Moon Muang rd , near Thaphae gate.Rooms are nice and clean. Also has a great pool.cost around THB600 - 700 per night.

Close to bars and eateries, but a 15-20 min walk to the night bizaar.

Sounds good... can you get breakfast there too?

I always need something solid in the morning to soak up the previous night's liquids...

Yes they have a small eatery around the pool, but b/f is not included in the room price (at least it wasn't last year)

You could always nip down to Mad Dogs or Laughing Lep just down the road, much better breakfast :o

  3. Have conclusively proved it's the water today, looks like we have a lot of Iron in the water here.

Put an old white T-Shirt over the pipe to the washing machine and ran the water for 30 seconds or so, result yellow stain on the T-Shirt.

As it it something that has happened recently, I'm guessing there must be some maintenance work going on somewhere down the line which is contaminating the water.

Am slightly disappointed that the filter makes little difference, guess the iron content is less than 5 microns. You'd think that TShirt material would be considerably more than 5 microns, but there ya go.

Short of buying a multi stage 8000 baht water filter, I'm just gonna have to put up with it and hope it's temporary, I doubt whether Mr Farrang complaining his shirts are no longer white will provoke any action :o

  4. Thanks for your replies, looks like I'll have to take it back, tho it's difficult to imagine what could be wrong with it, it's about as simple a design as you could get.

For the record I'm not washing colours with the whies and I have kicked it numerous times :o

Bought it from Tesco Lotus as that's a lot easier to get to for me than Siam TV.

    thanks again

    Rich.

  5. Hi,

I live in Bpa Daet, just south of CM.

Have been back here for 3 months.

As soon as I got back I bought a cheapo washing machine, which despite the cost actaully washes really well.

My 2 teenage daughters have come to stay with me and their arrival seems to have coincided with the washing machine leaving brown/yellow stains on the clothes, This is something that has only started happpening in the last week or so, I am one seriously unpopualr dad at the moment.

I have been told that the water should be filtered for washing clothes, so I bought a 5 micron single stage filter, but am still getting the problem.

I even replaced all the piping after the filter as the old pipes are coated with black crap.

Any one had/have similar problems and found a cure? I currently have 5000 baht of washing machine and filter that I can't use.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Rich.

  6. Hi,

I live in the Bpaa Daet area, 2 miles due South of CM city Centre.

It's a small Moo Baan about 30 houses I guess.

I know for a fact that there are at least 3 houses for sale in the mooban.

I rent mine for 6500B a month (was unfurnished) at the time they asked if I wanted to buy, first price asked was a straight 1 milllion baht.

3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom ensuite main bedroom, 1 shower room/WC up stairs, 1 down stairs. 2 balconies, kitchen and very large living room downstairs, small garden. driveway.

Only downside I can think of immediately is the Ping broke its banks last year and we did get flooded, but nowhere near high enuff to come in the house, was 3 or 4 days of fun actually and I didn't have to water the garden :o

Lots of house for the money, I am happier renting cos I wouild rather not have 1mBaht capital tied up in a house that will surely not go up in value in the next few years (in CM at least)

PM me if you would like more specific directions on how to get here to have a look around.

    Good luck

    Rich.

  7. About time too IMO - The crapthat comes out of most Songtaews is outrageous, trouble is they'll get a minimal fine and be allowed to carry on.

Groo how the hel_l did a nearly new car fail????

  8. Have had ToT ADSL for nearly a week now, seems that the problems I had in the first 2 days were a 1 off.

Speed tests always give 250k-400(ish)k even at peak times during the day.

I know a week is hardly a long test, but there have been no outages, no disconnects, no hideously low speeds (expect that first day)

So all in all it's looking pretty good.

    Rich.

  9. JxP,

Agree with what p1p says fully.

It was a real bitch to stop taking, took me 3 attempts.

When I finally succeded it was done by reducing the amount of daily intake, down to 1/4 of a pill daily, then 1/4 every other day, then stop completely.

I wasn't really aware of any benefits of herbal medicine at the time, but I did take St John's Wort for a while, hard to say whether it helped.

    Good Luck :o

    Rich.

  10. I've only just recently moved back here and have been using GPRS thru my mobile for a fee weeks on AIS, while waiting for my ToT 1Meg ADSL.

Service with AIS GPRS was reasonable, though at peak times during the day download speeds were pretty poor <2kbytes/S.

On Sunday night ToT turned up at 5pm, with 5 engineers lots of cable and bamboo ladders, 20 minutes later a new line was installed and I got ADSL connection.... or so I thought.

After a lot of fiddling with the modem I gave up and called the ToT call centre, to be told that the Internet was down in the whole of Thailand..... ahem ok... but what can you do?

Gave up, went to bed and tried again Monday morning, seems ToT were having login problems cos first try Monday it connected with no problems at all.

All day Monday I spent fiddling with the modem because the speeds I was getting were absolutely dreadful, at one point around 1pm international download speeds were around 900 bytes a second, around a 5th of a good dial up connection.

Was really very disappointed with this, not only cos I had ordered a 1Meg ADSL package, but only been given a 512 connection, but the effective download speed averaged about 2kbytes/S throughout the day.

Gave up and went for a few beers last night and then when I came home, as if by magic I was getting 45-55kbytes/S which is pretty much what you'd expect from a 512k package.

During the day today (Tuesday) I have been getting international rates of about 10-12kbytes/S not great, but acceptable, things slowed down noticably at 10am. From 6am to 10am rates were the expected 50kbytes.

I live in Bpaa Daet about 2 miles due south of CM, am hoping that the problems I had on Sunday and Monday were isolated incidents, but from what I've been reading, it seems they may not be.

I doubt if I will bother to get them to supply the 1Meg connection as the connection does not seem to be the bottle neck, at least during the day.

1Meg was 1000baht/month (ADSL modem included)

    512 was 750B, I think

    256 was 500B

All in all if it continues to work like it has today, I will be happy.

    Rich.
