I am shocked - shocked! Round up the usual suspects.
Apologies to Captain Louis Renault

How many times does it need to be said, a farang suing a Thai over defamation, or even being merely the instigator in the background behind a wife, is an extremely bad idea; not only will it cost a lot of money but also your wife's chances of losing the action are very high if you are dragged into the matter, which you almost certainly will be; in addition, the chances of her being counter-sued are high if your landlady is better connected than you, which given your relationship as tenant/owner she probably is. Then there is the possibility of the suppurating bad feeling generated by the case, which may well cling to you for years afterwards. Do you really want such hassles over a few thousand Baht, and a defamation which you will have forgotten about in three months' time?
My advice is to walk away, you have lost very little so far.

Good old Thailand, being dragged willingly into the 17th Century.

Quite why anyone expects any Western logic in Thailand is beyond me. This is, after all, the country in which the favourite local beer, Leo, sports a picture of a tiger on its label.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

This is why I stay on prepaid; if the provider will not/is unable to cancel/compensate, at least I can pay for my plan(s) and then run the balance to near zero so there's nothing further to steal.

Yes, I've noticed by prepaid balance slowly reducing these past few weeks. I spoke to the DTAC centre and they gave me the same bullsh*t about my having clicked on ads, despite my using an adblocker browser. If it continues I'll change providers.

Are you kidding? Bangkok was a completely different city in the 1980's to what it is now. Cheap, dark, and very sleazy, with ANYTHING goes bars, and many more of them, plus many other types of girl venue too. Long time the norm, girls all skinny and no tatts, and polite, the list could just go on about how different it was. Trink certainly never condoned under-age, though it was all apparent in many places.
Stick was OK, but really he missed the wild years IMO. His writing improved over the years, and his pictures were great.
That's a good approximation of my memories too.

'Vengeance is Mine, and recompense;
Their foot shall slip in due time;
For the day of their calamity is at hand,
And the things to come hasten upon them.’ -
It's probably an immaculate conception. They are quite common in Thailand.

My tropical island; it cost $2,200 in 1963.

Quite makes one yearn for the days before the Internet, when it was implicitly understood that foreigners resident here stayed the hell out of local politics - as I'm sure the Thais of whatever persuasion would still urge them to do.

Too much shit in Pattaya - who'da thunk it?

Seeing his/her quote in the Sun makes me feel that he has an issue with parasailing operators more than the concern for the child;
“The parasailing companies around Phuket are very aggressive in signing up customers and as you can see do not care in the least who signs up as long as they are paying!”
If it's the Sun then you can bet that the story has the most tenuous of connexions to the truth. The paper is owned by the Ghastly Gargoyle, after all.

A pity there is not a further breakdown into causes of death - balcony falls, sidewalk hole plunges, wing mirror across back of head, stiletto shoe in cranium and so on.

I thought about getting angry, but then I thought, 'Nah'.

To call this visa "much-awaited" does seem rather a stretch. Does anyone know anyone who has been waiting to deposit 3m Baht at risible interest rates for the pleasure of the same level of security that the O and O-A visas already extend to applicants for far less?
I struggle to see the point.

Haven't owned a telly for twenty-three years m'self; too busy stalking.

These juntas never last long. It's three years already and they're rapidly approaching their sell-by date, just need to get the formalities done, then...

No doubt the Thai side will pare infrastructure down to a minimum
so that everyone except the public gets their shareto save money - thousands of stairs up from street level, with escalators and elevators limited to one per side per station, handicapped access limited to only one or two stations on the routes, four carriage trains which will be at capacity within six months of the system opening, running on platforms designed for six carriages, with fares priced out of range of the poorest 80% of the population to use regularly.Just like the BTS, in fact.

There goes being the only farang on the bus...

Stop being a tourist and adapt. Frustrations are a part of life, surprisingly the traffic even drives the locals mad at times.

Gushing sycophancy is not an attractive style of journalism, but perhaps the girl is perfectly nice - who can say?
