  1. The ignored greeting is kinda funny.

Tourists, especially backpackers ("travellers" :o ) from Denmark just out of high school don't seem to like talking to each other.

I'm thinking the young danes "came to see an exotic country" and don't want that "exprience" messed up by being too social with fellow backpackers from Denmark.

Young people from Israel gets very conversational among each other. It's like they have the direct opposite attitude.

  2. Cars usually got AC.

Make sure you bring some water, riding longer stretches on a bike you'll risk dehydration.

Did that once and suddenly became dizzy, pulled over immedeately, falling off at speed is not good for you.

    Have a nice trip!

    :o

  3. JRingo, you have my deepest sympathy.

    Getting infected is no joke.

For some reason you don't hear about farangs with AIDS or HIV.

Do they all go home to get treatment?

Using a condom is the right thing to do, but everyone I know has had unprotected sexual contact at some point.

  4. This topic and thread is huge and covers a lot of issues concerning bar girls.

Prostitution has always been a part of Thai life. I have no utopian fantasies about things changing anytime soon (as long as the Thai government lets business go on "as usual").

    One question remains though:

Would you want your daughter, mother or sister work as a prostitute?

If the answer is "yes" your morale still offends me. But you won't be a hypocrite.

    :o

Does my mother in law count?

Your mother-in-law counts. This would also be about losing face and respect of the family name though.

  5. The "pimps" thread inspired this:

If you think the Thai economy will go down the tubes without prostitution I think you're wrong.

Prostitution is here to stay but let's imagine Thailand cracks down on prostitution.

I think the following would happen:

The trade moves underground, and bent law officials and criminals would use a crackdown to increase their "fees". Keep in mind that the red light districts are often concentrated within a few squiare kilometres. They are found in all larger cities all over the world. Eyesores not many are going to miss.

There will be a dent in the economy, but businesses adapt. The Pattaya hotels will find new customers such as families instead of sweaty, unattractive single caucasian guys. The beach is still there and Thailand has so many other qualities, national parks, sports.

    :o

  7. Gernam guy Norbert bolt from expensive car, Thai woman fingers him as the owner of large amount of illegal drugs, he ends up on a police APB.

You may be thinking this is fun. I think german dude has a wee problem that need to be sorted with the thai authorities. If german guy horses around with drugs, he need to go to court. And he should count himself lucky that he isn't thai, the drug sweep some time ago saw a lot of "suspects" dead.

  8. I just read a debate thread on farang/thai relationships. It also had a link to a poll saying around 8% found their gf/bf/spouse via a internet dating service.

I'm born in Thailand but live in Europe. I have just started a import business and all my products happans to be made in Thailand (coincidence though). So I go to Thailand whenever possible.

I have had some experience with Thailovelinks.com which is a Thaivisa sponsor. I found that Thailovelinks is a seriously run dating site and I initially just signed on to see what it was all about.

After 6 months I found myself VERY close to getting married to a nice Thai lady! But long distance relationships are just difficult. (Un-?)fortunately she changed her mind but we're still friends.

Some ladies are looking for a rich guy, others are just having fun and a lot like to find serious relationship. The common rule is that women on dating websites are in control.

I do think internet dating sites can be a very good option for busy people, and I could easily see myself going online to find new friends. It's also a good option to get contact before you go to Thailand. I actually think I might be doing some business with one or two of the ladies I'm keeping contact with, as I need someone to find new products for my company to import.

I also found some good chatting friends in Thailand and the USA (women that I didn't find any romantic interest in/from) on online dating services.

    So my question:

What do you think about Thai Internet dating services?

All comments and perspectives are welcome!

  9. If you are one the folks who happens to suffer from BO problems I'll also recommend making sure to put on a clean pair of socks every day if you're wearing shoes or trainers.

Especially the backpackers wearing trainers or hiking boots without socks come off as smelling foul.

Stinky feet can be part of the problem if your have to look professional in your job and wear presentable shoes.

I read the tread and and haven't really noticed the "aircon setting discussion". But thinking of western friends in Thailand, it does feel like walking into fridge sometimes when visiting...

  10. Hi guys

I'm Robert2 and new on ThaiVisa.

About this topic of smelly farangs the egghead sciencetists has actually found that westerners are sweating more than Southeast asians. This is backed up by recognized genetic resarch.

(oh yeah, they also found that SE asians can't drink as much as westerners, genetics too...)

But whereever you're from, a quick 1 minute shower 3 times a day in Thai weather conditions is good for anyone. And refreshing too methinks.
