Is this true? Thai Police & Court
UPDATE: thank you everyone for the advice. I was already thinking it was possibly a scam. in the end we suggested they persist in showing the video evidence to the police and this should be enough to get them off the hook. if their plight is real, and they have video evidence then they shouldn't have to pay any bail. and if its not true, then I have told them 'No'.

This was a very informative reply. Thank you 🙂 .. and, at the same time, i'm sorry about your 17 months of having to await court dates, trial and sentencing.
- 51% of a "Thai" Company is owned by another Thai Company that is 49% Foreign-Owned -- Is that legal?

Can foreigners buy hospitality businesses?
i know this is a really old question, but I was in Thailand from 2004 to 2016, and I saw LOADS of hotels where the owners are a mixed race couple. Especially around 2004 to 2010 I knew many backpacker (beach bungalow) resorts which were owned by a foreign boyfriend together with their thai girlfriend. Also, from what you have said, how does any international hotel chain open in Thailand?

Is this true? Thai Police & Court
I received a weird message from someone I haven't spoken to for 8 years. Let's call him John. John is about 21 years old (previous friend of my daughter when we used to live in Thailand). John is half thai. I'm summarising what he said: John said he has been 'framed'. Someone that John knows got paranoid and started a fight and pointed a gun at John. John has the whole thing on camera. The person with the gun left the scene and told the police that John had threatened him with a gun. The police arrested John and he faces court. John says that the police are not interested in his video which shows the other guy was the one with the gun. The police (or court) released John on Bail for 300,000 THB. A money lender paid this for John. John is now asking if we can help him pay back the money lender. I don't know the full story, and it could be a scam (to extort money. My questions: (1) Is 300,000 thb a correct amount for this sort of situation, or impossible? (2) Is 3 months waiting time normal? (3) I would have thought that the police would have released John without charging him because of his video evidence showing that it was the 'other' guy who had the gun. Is it normal that the police would ignore such evidence? Obviously there is more to the story.. but I probably may never find out. Possibly John has actually done something bad, and scared to admit this to me. Also, perhaps John is trying a money scam on us. Opinions?

Can someone recommend a dentist in Bangkok ? [2023]
Please can someone recommend any good dentists in Bangkok which is reasonably priced. Preferably you had treatment there a while ago and can give feedback on whether you are happy with what they did. - I have heard a couple of stories about people getting work done and believed it to be good, but then (many months later) have problems due to infection underneath the filling because it wasn't cleaned out properly. If you know of any dentists to absolutely avoid, that would also be good for this list ;)

Is it still 7 days visa extension if I currently have a 30 day waiver? (UK Passport).
I thought I would update how the 30-day visa went at Laksi: PS: I was currently on a 30 day waiver and applied for an additional 30 days at Laksi. I went to immigration at I.T. Square, Laksi (3rd Floor). I was one day overstayed and it was completely fine. It's just a standard procedure to pay the 500 baht penalty, and it was without any worry or slap on the wrist. I asked my hotel to do a TM30 (which they did online) and they sent me a screenshot of it. I printed it out (and was completely fine). There are a few photocopy and print shops in the same room as immigration. I spent about 30 mins filling in forms and organising stuff, and then I had to wait about 2 hours to get seen, and then an additional 30 mins to receive the completed visa in my passport. I arrived at about 2pm and left at about 5pm I was customer number 255 of the day, and it went to almost 400 (last person). I had a 1 hour massage while I was waiting (directly opposite the queue), one of the massage staff was checking the queue number (from time to time). All in all, an easy afternoon. Apparently, you can now book your appointment online, rather than queue and wait. I have NO IDEA how it works. But thought i'd mention it.

Do they require me to show an outbound flight ticket? Right now I didnt get one. I could always book one while at immigration if they demand it. But,, generally speaking, do they usually ask for proof of exit ?

Isn't the ChangWattana immigration office (in the huge government complex) the exact same thing as LakSi immigration office ? or, is there a reason you said "attend LakSi immigration office not CW".

ooh. I booked on booking.com and the hotel didnt even ask me for my passport when I checked in. if I turn up to changwattana, will it hinder my application? also: what would happen if I turn up to changwattana immigration 1 day AFTER my current visa expires? is it a simple "pay 500 baht fine" and then they add the extension?

British Passport. Current Visa: 30 days visa waiver. Just a day or two to go before it ends... But I want to stay an extra week or two. I dont fancy doing a visa-run. Am I correct that I just need to go to ChangWattana and get a 7 day extension? (or is it 30 days)? or can I get longer ? Also: what would happen if I turned up to ChangWattana 1 day AFTER my current visa expires? is it a simple case of paying the 500 baht overstay fine, and then getting the extension?

2 Questions: Has anyone used Thai Embassy in Mumbai before (recently)? What happens if I apply e-visa even though I am in india and not supposed to ?
I'm gonna do the Visa Exemption method. So much easier. I only need a month, so its fine 😉

Visa on Arrival, Visa Exemption.. Confusion!
I am a UK Passport holder. so does that mean I automatically get 30 days upon arrival in Suvarnabhumi. Would it be the same if I arrive (internationally) to Don Muang or Phuket? PS: So I guess this article is incorrect: https://www.handyvisas.com/news/thailand-to-keep-45-day-visa-free-stays-until-the-end-of-2023/
