  1. My bank in home country suggested there is no need to inform home country where I work or if I am coming home.

on the same track I am trying to open a bank account in Singapore, but don't want to give any tax number.  I am not us so don't see why they need it, but they all seem to think I should be disclosing.

is there any way around this?

failing that how do I minimise taxes if I have to provide a thai tax number?

Thanks in advance, and no need to school me on financial ignorance, I know I'm ignorant, already, trying to become an educated ignorant

  2. I did some searching and found someone asking about tv provider combined.  I'm not interested in tv.  Looking for top provider, currently using true fibre optic package.  It loses connection now and again and have had enough of excuses from true CS despite the friendliness of them.

Any one found anything that stays connected ? top pick?  its not as if I use internet that often at home, so dissapoiinting when it does happen.

so you missed 3 or so 90 day reports, and you were only fined 2,000 baht?  Not saying it is the affordable way to do things, but it does seem like one way to have to report just once a year!  Just skip doing most of the 90 day reports!

I think you are correct, if I am not flying out the country, it may well be more economical to pay a fine next time visa is renewed than waste time in immigration office doing 90 day reporting.  It wastes half a morning to do so including commute time. So if I was doing that 4 x a year, 5k for the 1 visit combined with visa is better economics.than 4 x reports with loss of earning = 12 -to 20 hours.

  4. I'm the op, aha, so that was an education for me.  Last time I was late for 90 day reporting they charged me quire a bit of money, stapled some paper in my passport saying I had overstayed.

So I googled overstay and found 1 years ban and possible imprisonment, and present yourself to immigration immediatly.  So there I was ready to hand over 20k baht and thinking I could get arrested.

I had not realised that when Thai visa and other sources talk about overstay it is to do with visa, not 90 days reporting.

what a relief, the friendly immigration staff did indeed only charge 2 k baht and explained how easy it was to count 90 days.  Staff also explained thai government is more serious about this now.

I have used a smaller immigration office before and I am sure they charged me much more than 2k bht for a 5 day overstay, I won't defame that office here.  But I was told 5 k is maximum.

So the overstay which can result in imprisonment is to do with visas.  I will have to make sure that does not happen.   Having to do every year I bet that can happen easily as well.

    Thanks for replies all.

Am I correct in saying that your ISP has access to the router?

In which case you want an extra layer of protection, because I wouldn't trust those bastards as far as I can throw them.

I turn off the Wifi on my ISP's router and use a NAT'ed internal router to manage my network.

Have a related question that may help other users.

do you reccomend buying a second decent router and just using the first one as decortion?

  6. I have been searching for this information, apologies if its here already, but I did not find and ahve been working at this for more than 24 hours.

For purpose of security for work I am trying to set up vpn router.  I have the router asus rt-68u and I am trying to put it the DMZ of ZTE F668.

I saw stuff from crossy amongst others on web that in DMZ of isp will do the trick.

so I set it up, However, I can connect to my new asus by wifi 2.5 and 5Ghz and login to play around with router.  However have not yet managed to get it to broadcast wifi.?

so I have it in dmz, can get access to it, but that is it.

Have no idea what to do with it now.

I basically followed crossy off the top of head method.  This is driving me nuts as I though it would take me 1 hour tops.

I now have a hole in the wall which True helpfully drilled then decided to leave a trip hazard at bottom of stairs. luckily I came home to prevent the comedy getting any better - ( did I mention how the kitchen fitters dealt with the issue of a slop in purpose built cupboard by taking hammer to brand new appliance?)

So do I need special info from TRUE? should I switch isp?

my feeling is the zte is totally naff, I'm no expert but its wifi broadcast is not ac so I assume its old.

Please help oh and let me know if I'm missing any info.
