  1. It is an absolute fact, hundreds or even more of foreigners, including me, get their accounts blocked. In some cases, it is said that it is only those who have a short time visa that are affected, but that is not true. I have a one-year visa and have had both that and an account on Bangkok Bank for the last 13 years, and I was indeed affected. However, it looks like if you are having a marriage visa, you will not be affected. You can read about it at; https://www.facebook.com/groups/destinationthailandvisa/posts/2171900389999572/
  2. The same, passport and The same, copy of passport and "Certificate of living".
  3. No scam! The fact is that about a moth ago Bangkok Bank stopped all foregniers account without telling it before. I who was a customer at the bank went to an ATM on the Friday evening to take out 5000 Baht from my account and get the message, " You have not enough money on your account". I looked at my Bangkok Bank App and it tell that I had more than 40 000 baht at the account. I went to another ATM and tried to get 5000 Baht, and get the same answer. I went in to a 7/11 and tried to buy some food for less than 300 Baht, same answer. On the Monday after I went to Bangkok Bank on Klang, it was filled with foreigners. I had to wait about five hours before it was my time. I told the clerk that it is something wrong with my ATM-card I could not use ATM. It is no problem wit your ATM-card she said, but we need you to come here with a new copy of your hosebook or Certifikate of Recidence. Come back with that tomorrow and we open your account again. I could not I said, my landlord is in Italy and not come back until November 17. Ok, then you could not get you money before that she said I need the documents. You are wrong I said, you will give me my money within 5 minutes, I close my account. I did and get my money. The story is not over with that. My landlord succeed to send me athe documents for get a "Certificate of living" and I went to immigration and asked for one. What for she asked. opening a bank account I answered. What bank she asked, anyone except Bangkok bank I answered. Ok, What about the "yellow" bank she asked. Ok, it would be fine. I went to the "yellow" bank and when it was time for me I showed my papers and said, I want to open a bank account. Ok she said and took copies of my documents. I call you whenit is ready, she finished . This was on a Monday. When Friday comes and she still not have called, I went to the bank and said, hey you have not called me. I recognice you she said, took up my documents, looked at her calender and said., It will be finished about 1 month from now, I call you then. On my way back home I went in to Kasikorn Bank and said, I just want to ask how long it will take to open a bank account? If your papers are ok, about 15 - 20 minutes. I went back the day after and it worked just as they had said, less than 20 minutes.
  4. The shop opposite Jomtien bus station, Foodmarket, Second road, has a lot of different tea brands, including Lipton, at least two days ago. They also have much other Western food like English ham and so on. Pantry, further down on the same street, just opposite where the bahtbuses turn down to Jomtien Beach Road also have much Western food. Otherwise Lazada is a good choise. They delivere normally within 3 days.
  5. I moved here because of a thai woman I met in London, and stay here because of the laidback life.
  6. Maybe they do, but I have not find it as a big problem yet. Even if they use slang I understand so much that I can ask them to explain if needed. It also could depend on the age and education of the people you listen to. But I should admit that there could be some understanding problems when listening to people from Isaan as they speak a kind of Laos dialect (If they not speak Thai). But not really any big problem so far.
  7. I have the same problem as you, hearing loss. I went to the shop at Klang, but it was closed for one month at that time. I found another one in Jomtien and went there to talk to them. They suggested a Danich model, that including test would cost around 40 000 Baht. I decided to instead buy a pair from Lazada for about 700 Baht. They worked very good, but it was still a problem. Even if I could hear what people said, many of them speak Thai so the solution was not quite right for me as I don´t understand Thai. Back to Lazada and bought a translator that include an app for the phone and what looks like an earphone connected to the phone through Bluetooth. It cost about 12000 Baht and the translation is read in the "earphone with a few seconds delay. Thie combination of translator in one ear and hearing aid in the other works perfect for me.
  8. I can afford it, it is not about that. Imagine this. You go into a shop, see something that you need or want to buy. The price is set to 300 baht. You think that is well worth it, and put it in your basket. When you come to the cashier, you see that he has put the price at 467 baht. When you ask why, the cashier says, "The price is 300 baht, but you have to pay me 167 baht extra or you won't get it". Would you just accept that? Up to you, but I still think it is a scam.
  9. I don't complain about the low airfare tickets. I complain that I have to pay more than half of the two ticket prices to pay for them.
  10. Thanks, I saved this for the next flight-
  11. Next week I am going to Ubon (the candle festival). I live in Pattaya, so getting there by bus was no choice. Instead, I looked for cheap flight tickets. I found one on Viet jet. 1200 baht for a ticket to Ubon and back to Bangkok a couple of days later. I started ordering the ticket. After I had filled in the flight dates and times, I got a question: did I want a special seat (that would cost extra)? I did not fill it in (the answer no was not a possibility). Then I get a new question: Do you want a meal? As before, I did not fill it in as this question, like the other, could not be answered with a no. Then I got a third question, and that was how I would like to pay. They gave three choices, and within the time limit they gave I only had one choice: Pay on 7/11. Then came the scam. It will cost me more than 700 Baht extra to pay at 7/11. That is more than half of the price for the tickets from Bangkok to Ubon and back again! Have you ever heard of something like that before? So Viet Jet, I will fly with you this time, but never again, because I do not like to feed scammers.
  12. There is no global meaning of life, and the meaning of life is not something given. You must find out what makes living meaningful for you and strive to live so it happens. Easy as that.
  13. Gaza would not have looked like it does without the American support of Israel.
  14. Can you please explain how the “richest country in the world” can have a larger national debt than GDP? Borrowed money is not its own money, as you and Trump seem to believe. The US needs friends.
  15. Good question, others have asked that too, and the answer is two. I have not thought about it. The other reason is that I have had this medication for about 10 years and those pills I get are working fine. 555, in fact, the first pills I got, gave me an allergic reaction my throat swelled up, and so did my di*k. With one hand I could not reach around it when it was "sleeping", and no, my wife was not happy about it either.
  16. Let me start by saying that this does not apply to all staff. Most are very nice. I visit said hospital about every two months for refills on high blood pressure medication. About six months ago, when I was going to register, I was waiting in line. When it was my turn, the registrar looked up at me, pointed, and said, "Go and stand last in line". There were 8 to 10 Thais behind me. He refused to register me unless I waited until the Thais were registered. On November 14, it was again time to refill medicine. This is not a complicated procedure, the effective time from when I register until I receive and pay for the medicine is about 10 minutes, of which two to three are at the doctor's (the doctor asks how I feel and then signs the prescription). This time the registration and the nurse's questions went quickly. As usual, I was referred to "station 4", where I assume that what the nurse at the previous station wrote down on the registration is transferred to a database. I left my document in a basket in front of the two nurses and one of them picked it up. Wait she said, and I waited for five hours to be exact. In the meantime, they let about 50 people who had come after me, in to the doctor. I approached the nurse and asked what was going on, sit down and wait a moment she said. I waited another half hour, then I went to the other nurse and said, give me my document. In front of her was a stack of about 10 documents for the next round to be admitted to the doctor, but mine wasn't there. She knew, however, without asking me for my name, immediately where it was. It was alone about a meter from the pile where it should have been several hours earlier. I took the document and went out with the words. There are more and better hospitals in the city. It cannot be blamed on unfortunate circumstances. In both cases, everyone involved knew very well what they were doing. Many, both foreigners and Thais, that I have spoken to about these events say that they have similar experiences from the same hospital. 60 years ago, Pattaya was an insignificant fishing village, now, thanks to tourism, it is a big city. Before the pandemic, tourism accounted for more than 21% of Thailand's GDP and it still accounts for a high proportion of Thailand's income, not least thanks to the foreigners who are permanent residents here. Unfortunately, some of the staff and management of the said hospital don't seem to understand that without us, Pattaya would degenerate back into a fishing village, because just like there are other hospitals in Pattaya, there are other places that can offer the same thing as Pattaya, but with a friendly attitude ( I look forward to an explanation of the behavior from the hospital management).
  17. As someone said before, go to your embassy and get a new passport. Abut the visa stamp, it is no problem, just bring both your old and new passport next time you go to immigration.
  18. My Thai wife and I have been married for ten years. 7 of those years we have lived very close to her family. When they speak to each other and com to mention, me they always say farang, not in a bad way, but still. I have said to my wife, "hey, I have a name. I do not call you thai so stop calling me farang". Nothing changed.
  19. Third, I wrote that she hugged me, not the other way around, Start your brain before you tap the keyboard.
  20. First of all, it was 170 baht, not ten. Secondly, it is up to you if you like to be scammed and up to me if I do not like it.
  21. The right question from the OP should be, why is it forbidden to sell alcohol on Buhdda days when it is ok to sell cannabis?
  22. Ok, so your mate is right and the history books are wrong.
  23. Nope the Englishmen and the Frenchmen. They started the so-called opium wars against China as the Chinese King did not let England sell opium in China (the Englishmen wanted to exchange opium with local Chinese products like tea and silk). The Chinese lost the two wars and the Kingdom of China fell forever. Learn that almost every time there is a conflict between countries England is involved with a bad attitude.
