There is a charge of 1000 baht extra for Ed visas .
2000 extra if you have not closed your visa before arriving at the border.
Soo make sure you get the letter from your school and go to your local immigration before your border run

Immigration hates letting people with previuos educaitonal visa.....the see it as a bogus visa.....be glad you can even re enter.....just pay the extra..
Not true at all.
How did you work out an education visa is a bogus visa?

Hi just trying to find out some information on doing a border run coming off an education visa.
Usually a border run from the pattaya area costs 3000 baht but I've been told there is an extra charge of 2000 baht if coming off an education visa.
Does anyone know why I would have to pay the extra?

Thanks! My school told me its new rules for Pattaya. So now with the new rules i can only stay here for 10 months. Is it possible to extend it if you have 1 month left on your ed visa after the second extension of 9 month? I mean after the second extension it will be 9 month and 1 month will be left since the arrival stamp was 10 months ago. I hope it's not confusing, it's a bit hard for me to explain.
I feel your pain.
People are paying alot of money thinking and being told their getting 12 months, and then a few months later being told "oh by the way you can only get 10 months sorry"..

Worse for 90 day Non-O with health insurance.
The non PC savvy often can't get it right without help.
Completely outrageous a.. kissing.
How many legit Russian tourists with their devalued currency have the money for a 90 day family holiday? Everybody knows what they are fleeing from and their "innovative ideas" to finance the stay.
Good luck to them.
I'm glad they got it.
No need to get upset about other people's visa situation.

I'm in Colombia now (Cali). Prices are about as cheap as Thailand. I am in an apartment here that there is no way I could get in Thailand for the price. 500/mo. Modern upscale apartment with full kitchen, living room, Bathroom and bedroom. Of course with air.. Fully furnished with a modern washer in the apartment. Ohhh, and I have razor wire around the walls of my apartment and three keys to get into the open patio area.
The main difference for me is the women. They are in the same mind set as Thai and SE Asian women in general. But, at my age most are so fat and ugly. Like I am back home in the US. Actually it reminds me of the US years ago.. Easy but so homely for me. Basically the same gold diggers and rip offs as in Thailand. But, same as in Thailand, some very very nice and sweet gals.
China is trying to push its way in, but without much success. I see a lot Indian (India) motorcycles here.
Really the only thing I see from China here are some cars that are trying to break into the market.
Personally I have seen no foreigners here at all. Including Westerners. If the Chinese were to live here I don't think they would like It. And they would be targets. Like painting a target on your back saying rob me. The culture shock would be to much for them IMO.
I just left a small town called Minca. Was there for a month. And just like in Thailand very safe , the Europeans and Westerners were overrunning the place. Hundreds daily pouring in. Mostly young backpackers. I was there for a month carrying a 6 thousand dollar camera and lens, no problems. Here in Cali I would not be long for the world if I did that.
Was in Cartagena for a month, reminded me of Pattaya as far as tourist rip offs go. Not safe!. And, verrrry expensive.
As far as beauty goes, there is really no comparison. Thailand is so dirty and filthy it is disgusting in so many ways. Hear the natural beauty , if into that? Is over the top.
Another stomping ground of mine is Mexico. I prefer it to Colombia. Strictly for the size and diversity. And it is right across the border from my home in the US.
I am heading to the Philippines next. All the years living in Thailand in the golden days. I never visited the Philippines. But, if I had to imagine living somewhere permanently, for me it would be Mexico.
Personally I will never go back to Thailand because of the retirement changes. Can I afford it? Yes.
But, when countries start tracking me, and have their hand in my pocket I don't like it, and will never go back.
Ohh lord.
Countries start tracking me?
Get over yourself.

If both passports are valid you can simply hand both passports to the embassy to prove your legitimate stay in Laos. Same as people sometimes using one nationality passport to enter, and another to apply for visa.
Or like my country has a second passport options for business owners, would also be this case, entering using 1, applying on another. It is very nice to have. Thanks for the reply.
My thinking is that they can not use their new passport until they get their now Laos visa and entry stamps transfered to the new passport.
Here in Thailand I just pop down to the local immigration and they change over passports and put a stamp in it.
Can the same be done at a immigration office in Vientiane?

How did he enter Laos n an OLD -passport?
When we get a new US book, the old one is cancelled
would have assume other countries were the same but guess notYes other countries are different.
There old passport hadn't expired yet so the were still able to use it.
They should of changed passports at immigration before leaving Thailand but they didn't know.
Now there trying to find out if they could do it at an immigration office in Vientiane .

Hi guys.
I have a friend who went to Vientiane on a visa run to get a tourist visa.
They have both new and old passport and want to get the visa in the new passport.
They entered Laos using the old passport instead of coming in using the new one.
Will the Thai embassy except a new passport with no stamps or can they go to the immigration office in loas and change over passports?
Thanks for any advice.

Visa runs are not illegal.
If it was illegal they wouldn't let people back into the country.
Visa runs are most definitely legal.

Yes pre COVID it was easy to do with very little problems apart from the odd warning stamp in your passport.
Now it's very difficult to do.

If you actually entered the country on your old passport on this current trip (i.e. in the last 30 days), and it has not been physically invalidated by the issuing authority either cutting off of the edge+void stamped, then technically immi will likely give you an extension, and you should be able to exit on it provided you adhere to the additional 30 day limit.
When immi scans a passport, the machine checks only if it is an authentic passport (not a counterfeit) as well as cross checks with the info on their entry/exit database, and not if it has been invalidated/voided. It is a slightly different (technical) matter when a country cancels the passport of one of its citizens due to a criminal matter etc.
Good man thanks for the help.

The old passport still has 4 months before expire date.
Old passport has a visa exempt entry in it and looking to get a 30 day extension.
Thanks.

In that case, it seems that the school has sorted out a suitable arrangement with immigration and the ministry. Your previous immigration history will not be a factor.
Thanks for your help.
Appreciate it.

That is a big red flag. It suggests that the school has a bad reputation, and needs to grease the wheels to get extensions approved. If so, the school might well be on a blacklist Vientiane maintains. Non Ed visas for those schools are denied.
I've been to 3 schools and there's no mention of me having to leave and go to Vientiane.
They said I don't need to leave.

Seems that the school is your agent.
There are couple of different tier level of schools for studing Thai language.
There is specific forum for that.
Not directly answers your question however this thread explains informal schools and has few posts from ubonjoe.

Good man thanks.
The school has said I got to pay 5000 every 90 days at immigration, seems steep I thought all extensions inside of Thailand cost 1900?

Might actually be fun to learn to cook some Thai food?

The funny thing is that if you don't wanna attend classes, you need to pay MORE money! ????
Thats probably true.
I was quoted some crazy prices for an education visa without lessons.

I think thats the question a immigration officer might ask!
Good luck
As I said I'm going to a legitimate school and not through an agent.
Yes I will be attending classes,as I'd be very silly not attending classes after paying alot of money.

Hi, looking for information on education visas.
I'm applying for an education visa at a legitimate language school and a bit worried about a load of COVID extensions in my passport.
The school says it won't be a problem but I'll be loosing alot of money if my visa gets rejected.
Any info would be much appreciated.thanks.
