I'm in the process of starting the ball rolling converting a METV to Non O "A" and I was given a price of 38k to do it from a certain visa agent which I wont name as it's all new to me and I wouldnt intentionally damage anyone's rep.
I thought it was a bit steep but then I thought it was the going rate as there's the 800k that they will assist with. I have the money plus approx 275k per month income but I'm reluctant to have that money sitting in my K Bank account so they'll sort that and maybe next year I'll do it.
I also got told by a bloke that there's a small place opposite Sweethearts that will do the same for around 14k.
It's all a bit confusing as I always leant towards if sounds too cheap then it may be dodgier than the dearer ones.
Who knows. More homework for me I guess.
Nothing wrong with Thai banks.
Despite all the scaremongering on Tv.
Why give your money to someone else.
thats a few beers and maybe a few happy endings.

I also estimate a massive dwindling of the expat populations that cannot apply for their annual extensions by legitimate means at the end of next year as all loopholes and get arounds of the system become closed to them.
I predict, an increase in corruption and an increase in agents.
and no real reduction in ex-pats to talk of.

Hopefully will hear from Thai Immigration soon with new requirements.
I don't believe any good will come from all this, for any ex pats.
it's just playing into the hands of Thai immigration, to invent a few more hoops, jumps and rolly pollies for us all, regardless of what root you go down, money or income.
All could have just been left alone.

At the present time, with my non immigrant o visa I cannot even visit another country without having first sought permission from Immigration and then paying 1900 bht. And all of this to pop across to Burma which is just a stones throw from where I live.
That's because deep down they love us ex-pats who look after there citizens.
Feel the love

I haven't been able to find that limitation in writing. Police station officers, my insurance, Thai law Act, and geneva rules don't mention anything of a 90 day rule.
The closest thing I've been shown is something in the Geneva document that says if in Thailand and your residence in thailand is a "normal" residemce then you can't use it at all.
But since most are here on a temporary visas, type of address will not be normal. It may be that it is the address you are normally at in reference to time but your normal and permanent address will still be in your home country.
Only if you become an immigrant then your address in Thailand will be normal and you will need a Thai licence. Otherwise a 1 year IDP will be fine. Of course authorities can do what they want on a particular day, but I'm confident enough on the rules.
Each person should do whats comfortable to them once they gather all the info.
What ever mate.

A 90 day limit does not exist. If you have an international driving permit based on the 1949 convention it's valid up to one year
Tell that to the police.

If you got your own country license just get an international driver permit online. that's If your country is on the accepted list.
it's only valid for a 90 day period at a time.

so now we now know that it is some kind of rubbish law we dont kneed it wont work can not be implemented and should be scraped as should the Thai driving license a uk license should bee all you need as it use to be but now even a international license is not a license in Thailand as it is for the police to make money from any one they want to rip off 400 baht no hat no license no bike papers no tax or any thing else they feel they can get you for. my neighbour gets it for having a 3 wheeled bike salink he takes dogs to get treatment in a cage 400 baht its just ruining the city of pattaya

How much time and inconvenience is it to replace a lost passport ?

How much time is it to, get someone to go get your passport to show PC plod or the nice immigration officer, if a copy is no good for him ?
No brainer I think !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can argue about rules and regulations, but it wont change the out come, on the day.

TM30
One big mess.
It all depends on the way the wind blows on any given day.
Total toss pots.

A quick question, about the Jomtien office.
Do i need to report Tm 30 again ?
Did one this year, had the same permanent address for years in pattaya.
i'm on a retirement ( 12 months extension of stay )
but im having two days in a hotel in Bangkok.
on return to my permanent address, do i need to report again ?.
Thanks Stan.

My experience is that it is. Do you remember the Paris bombing about 2-3 years ago! Due to property in Europe which needed mainetance I left for home just two days before the bombing happened and returned 4 days after it happened. The day after returning to Thailand, civil clothed Police come to check and interview me about why I went out that periode and returned so quickly. They referred to the address on Tm 6 when asked how they could locate me. Will add that I certainly did not have anything with the Paris bombing to do.
Interesting story, you obviously triggered something the day you returned, and they
got your Tm 6 out or maybe they already had your address on computer from previous paper work, at your local immigration office. ?
Maybe people in a back room are typing our details in for immigration at a latter date, maybe someone knows the answer to this ?
But i'm sure at the time of entry to Thailand the immigration guy in front of you is not typing your address in, maybe i'm wrong, anyone ?

Where is the Immigration act which state that if you have been abroad and have a extension based on retirement you have to re-report your address at Immigration in your province in 24 hour when its already reported at arrival and its only 90 days to your next 90 day report and address is not changed since this address reporting started.
I don't think your address is logged into the immigration data base when you arrive in Thailand.

When I reported returning to the same address to Jomtien, I did not need to re-fill a new TM-30, provide a condo-letter (juristic person), copy of lease, etc - just passport photos (main-page, latest stamp), TM-6, and copy of my previous TM-30 passport-slip.
If reporting a new address, then you need all that and more - the list varying depending on which office. Some offices may even want the whole stack for a same-address return - have to check with them to find out.
ok, i got you.

I have returned to the same residence and reported each time, and received a new TM-30 in my passport each time (Jomtien). When you report to a different address, there is additional paperwork required.
BUT - enforcement and rules vary By Immigration Office, and over-time at the same office - so everyone needs to find out what their office wants this month.
What aditional paper work do you meen ?
More than a TM 30 form ? -
