Explosive hot action comes to Third road in Pattaya
Jen65 replied to Padthaigoong's topic in Pattaya
Oh so if I have an electrical fire on my yacht you say I'm supposed to wait until the fire puts itself out ( and burns my yacht to waterline in the process ) or you say use water( and destroy /short everything else in the process ) ??? I don't think so !! -
Will new XBB strain cause COVID to resurge in Thailand?
Jen65 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Big question is "when will Thailand make the "bivalent "vaccine available here ?? -
I would sometimes enter this playground to use the exercise equipment therein . It would be better if the Childrens Play Area was completely separate from the adult exercise area . The current "Play/Exercise" area is subject to misuse with people sleeping rough on the benches , stray dogs doing a poo inside ( where children are supposed to play !!) . No policing / control / inspection so the deterioration has lead to the current situation .

I think you may find that the ingredients of "English" Mustard are not from the UK anyway !

I have previously used BHP for eye pressure test ( I actually require the pressure test and the field test on a regular basis due to peripheral glaucoma ) . BHP expensive and did not have the latest equipment and PIH did not have any equipment saying it was too expensive . I could not find anywhere else locally to carry out these tests reliably so tended to get these done in Europe when I visit . Last tests were done at top notch opticians in Portugal (latest equipment ) plus the tests were included in the price when I bought a new pair of prescription sunglasses for 100 euro ! Opticians are way behind here , most don't have any decent testing equipment and with some not even knowing what the tests were I referred to !! I shall check out the Chaksuwet Optical Clinic at Pattaya Klang , as that may be a useful alternative .

Face masks still mandatory on public transport, cinemas in Thailand
Jen65 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
what about Songthaews ? they form a large part of the public transport system but are they classified as public or private ? I see some wear masks and some not so if classified as "private" then I guess it's optional ?? -
I don't think it wise to drop our guard just yet . Covid infections have started to rise again in the UK. I am glad to see that Thai's are still being responsible and wearing masks although outdoors , in unobstructed spaces , it isn't really necessary . One should note the following : "Steve Griffin, a virologist at Leeds University, added: “We remain in a highly unstable and ‘unmitigated’ scenario due to the over-reliance upon vaccines in isolation. Waning protection from infection, combined with changes in behaviour mean that BA5 is likely to rebound – for example with schools, universities and workplaces returning and more time spent indoors without open windows, and the near-abandonment of masking. “I am astonished that the “living with” Covid strategy is continuing unmodified and unabated as a fortunate majority are able to go about daily lives as others suffer." At the beginning of the pandemic it was shown that the virus can live on stainless steel and plastic for more than 48 hours yet the washing of hands seems to have been forgotten !

Interior Ministry Orders Nationwide Electrical Leakage Check
Jen65 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I did read that residual current circuit breakers are the law now in all new installations . My "modern" Condo is actually 12 years old and did not have an RCD breaker so I simply bought one compatible with the consumer unit .When I changed all my ceiling halogen spots to LED , I found that even though the breaker for the room circuit I was changing the lights was off, one of the cables touched the metal frame for the suspended ceiling and the RCD tripped ! It would appear there is leakage current to the metal framework !! My electrician couldn't sort it so am just happy I have an RCD that will trip on a few milliamps not only for personal safety but also the safety of the wiring . I would recommend every household/Condo owner check and fit an RCD if one not present . -
He will only get his existing Visa or extension of stay stamped until the expiry of his existing insurance.

Public should not worry about new Omicron subvariants: DMSC
Jen65 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
that's not what I have been reading about BA 2.75 !!! If it becomes the dominant strain quickly then we should be worried ,especially those at most risk . The newer vaccines developed to combat BA 5.0 are in the pipeline and do not take into account of this new strain . -
Ah yes "Groynes" !! I mentioned the absence these previously and what could be expected without them, especially as this part of the coast has strong currents parallel to the coast , so the sand will be washed away in time . What are the advantages and disadvantages of groynes? The biggest advantage of using groynes is that it can prevent erosion to your property, beach, and the local environment. Groynes also help protect your property from hurricanes and storms. The only disadvantage of groynes is that it is a bit expensive to construct, but this is usually taken into consideration when planning for long range projects.

Prawit, Thammanat Face Ban From Politics Over ‘Banana-Feeding’ Scandal

Banana Republic ??? -
wait long enough they will be filled with fat balls ( remember the sidewalk vendors and every restaurant kitchen dumps there used oil down the drain or empties it into drainage grid ! )

Running costs don't just include fuel ! Any boat has standard costs - Haul outs/anti-fouling/service costs/safety appliance updates/mooring/insurance/inspections/new equipment etc. It gets expensive if you can't do most of the work yourself !
-
yes of course , but you can not engage in anything commercial as a foreigner , you would have to employ a Thai Captain. You need to register the boat with the Marine Dept. who will inspect the boat for safety and then annual inspection .

I'm 71 with an O-A visa and just done extension of stay with the required medical insurance which I have always had ! I was originally on a "O" retirement visa but had to go out of country when Covid emerged and at that time , the only way back was to obtain an O-A visa at the Thai Embassy ( I already had the medical insurance so no problem). However , my premium has jumped 45% as I'm in a new age bracket and although 100,000 baht still seems reasonable I had to up the deductible to 300,000 baht to keep the premium down . Now , of course anything under that I have to pay so am also considering self insure and keeping say 1 million in the bank reserved for medical and visa - quickly accessible but hardly any interest , but have other funds ( 1M ) available from offshore for transfer if required . That keeps my money with me and if nothing serious before I'm 81 then I have saved 1M in premiums over the next 10 years ! I will also take out a local personal accident policy which are very reasonable - quoted 5000 baht ( excludes motorbikes) . Is there any set minimum for self insure to be acceptable by immigration at renewal of extension of stay (retirement) ???

I wouldn't say the new Mega Home is doing "ok" ! I went in today to check it out and I was probably about the only one there ! Definite oversupply of DIY stores . Do Home is another massive store and also very quiet . There probably was a big demand for building/plumbing /electrical materials over the last 2 years while these huge Condos (CocoCabana et al ) were under construction however most sit empty ( Jomtien 2nd road ) and I would love to know whose buying into these horribly designed monstrosities (probably sold off-plan to the Chinese who now can't pay for them ) . We've had Nordic , whose next ?? Seven Seas ? Another looming Evergrand ?? and what about the quality of construction - aaaah !!
