  1. I am a professional engineer working in Thailand. We have six companies.

    1) There is no formalised test, inspection, certification system

    2) Electricians do not need to be certified

    3) Engineers are often utterly incompetent

    4) Far too frequently I issue an engineer's report following an electrocution of a farang

    5) In 100% of the cases the root cause is listed as accident ( it should be criminal negligence)

    6) The Thais do have a reasonable code - The Thai EIT code 2013. Available from Chulalongkorn University bookshop for the princely sum of 300 THB

    7) Far too many appliances sold which do not comply with TIS. Insane!

Anyone with any concern can PM me for free advice!

Well said. Once i made a diagram but the "electrician" couldn't read it keep the sheet upside down didn't understand one yota.
  2. And so says Foreign Ministry spokesperson Busadee Santipitaks with his grandiloquence of the tourism wonders of Thailand.
1.Like the natural wonders of Pattaya for family entertainment.
2.Tourist services offering buses which crash daily.
3.The unmanned immigration counters at international airports.
4.Tourist rip off prices as compared to local's prices. And the taxis in Pattaya and Phuket which refuse to turn on the meters. All big significant improvements.
Everything in Thailand has improved since the military junta took over. Even corruption, incompetency, censorship  and injustice.

And don't forget the two tier pricing system farangs pay 20 times more for entrance fees then the locals.
  3. What's to understand?  In the south islamic terrorists are running rings around the Thai "security" forces and terrorizing the public.  Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Whizbang do you you know anything about historical facts about the south? The south never belonged to Thailand it was en is still a predominant Islamic region it was annexed by Thailand which tried for decades to Thailandish and Buddha-isch that part of nowadays Greater Thailand.
  4. I knew it was just a matter of time before this clown spouted garbage again. It is being reported because it is a grisly case of national interest. That's what the press does, reports on things of interest. It would be wonderful if every day there were stories of blue skies and happiness, but the reality is different. You would hope that a countries national leader had the brains to understand that, and that he harms the country's reputation more with his talk of controlling the media, than the bad news story probably would have.

IDS you hit the nail in his head so to speak.
  5.  ....."many migrant workers left their babies at hospitals because they did not have money to pay for the medical fees....."

This was damn sad to read....leaving your newborn at a hospital.......!!!!

How many??????? Tell me please. And how many non-immigrants = Thai girls/women. So give me your figures you seem to have.
  6. this is widely understood and has been for years;  i stopped encouraging my friends to come here years ago; the foreign minister don gives me a headache every time he speaks publicly

Not only the foreign minister but also mister PM there isn't a single Thai friend of mine who watches and listens when he addresses the nation. Sorry for him waist of effort and time.
  7. The only thing surprising about the denial is how long it took to come. I posted on this subject yesterday, entirely accurately it seems, as a sad denial has been issued, while nothing is being stated as to how the situation will be addressed or improved. One day, Thailand will understand that image is one thing, the truth is something different, and no one is fooled by their bullshit statements about everything being rosy.

    How true!!!!
