  1. I will apply for a multiple-entry permit for my retirement visa/extension of stay. I found the info below under Important Visa Information/Re-entry Permit pinned in this forum. It's dated 2009. Can someone please confirm it's still accurate?

    Also, has anyone successfully used the re-entry online booking service of the Thai immigration website? When I click on the link, my browser says, "This connection is untrusted," so I did not proceed.

    Please excuse if these topics have been covered here. I did a fair search of the forum and did not find the answers.

    Thank you.

    When applying for a re-entry permit you will need to submit the following –

    * A completed TM-8 form
    * The correct fee
    * A 2″ photo
    * Photocopy of passport (main page, visa page and latest entry stamp)

    Current fees for re-entry permit

    * 1,000 Baht for single
    * 3,800 Baht for multiple

  2. You have to get a re-entry permit before leaving or when you return you will only get 30 days. The re-entry permit will be valid for entry until July 2nd 2016 and you will be stamped in until that date. You can get a multiple re-entry permit for a fee of 3800 baht.

    You can get a re-entry permit at an immigration office or at both airports in Bangkok 24 hours a day.

    You cannot apply for an extension in Hong Kong. The only thing you could do is apply for a new visa.

    You can apply for the extension at an immigration office up to 30 days before July 2nd 2016. The extension will be valid until July 2nd 2017.

    Seems it's better to wait till July 2016 and get extension rather than getting new visa in Hong Kong, which is more costly and would be big hassle getting all those documents again.

    I just need to transfer 800,000 baht 3 months before July 2 and make sure I am present in Thailand in June in order to apply for the extension, correct?

    About getting re-entry permit before I leave this month, seems would be better doing in city rather than at airport since there's no way to know how crowded it may be? I live near Phayathai airport link. Is there anyplace closer than Chaeng Wattana to do this?

    Thank you, Ubonjoe and others for your kind advice.

  3. I hold a U.S. passport. I have a one–year non-immigrant 0–A multiple–entry visa that I received in Hong Kong. The “enter before” date is Nov. 11, 2015. On my most recent return to Thailand, I was stamped “admitted until” July 2, 2016. I plan to go to Hong Kong Aug.30, 2015 and return Dec. 6, 2015. I’d like to continue to stay long-term in Thailand.

    • When I return on Dec. 6, will my “admitted until” date remain July 2, 2016? I want to be sure I won't get 30 days because the visa's "enter before" date will have expired by then.
    • After I return on Dec. 6, I will no longer be entitled to multiple entries and must get re-entry permits, correct? So I will need to get a re-entry before I go to Hong Kong?
    • Can I apply now in Bangkok for a one-year extension of stay, or is it too early? Since I will be in Hong Kong on the visa’s “enter before” date (Nov. 11, 2015), can I have it extended at the Hong Kong consulate?
    • If I wait until closer to my “admitted until” date of July 2, 2016 to apply for extension, would I get an extension for until July 1, 2017?

    I appreciate any suggestions.

  4. Hey there, I had a look around and I am going to the neurology department at Bangkok hospital. They specialise in it (not sure of cost have consultation on the 8th) I get migraines and TMJ.

    Hi, would you pls let us know how it went? Whom did you see, what's procedure like, what was cost?

    Thanks

  5. Hello,

    I've had migraines for three years now, have tried the whole gauntlet of medicines to no avail, and am ready to try Botox. I don't want to go to the cosmetic places but rather to a trained neurologist or specialist with experience in using this for migraines. I'd appreciate any help,

    Thank you, Peter

  6. Hello,

    Has anyone ever stayed at Supanich condo on Charoen Muang Rd? I'm looking for a place for a month and I came upon this in Web search only because it is near a place I will visit every day. How are the rooms? What's in the neighborhood? Is there a supermarket/mall nearby? Is the condo closer to the river side or the highway (rte 11)?

    Or is there a better place in the area, not too expensive and quiet?

    Thank you, Peter

  7. Peter,

    I'm not clear what you mean when you say the migraiones are linkled to your sight. If you mean that you see auras or have visdual disturbances before, during or after the migraines, this is a common occurrence with migraine and you don't need a neuro-opthalmogist but rather a specialist in migraines.

    There is a special Headache clinic at Bangkok Hospital Neuroscience Center, contact [email protected]

    You could also try DR. ANAN SRIKIATKHACHORN at Bangkok Nursing Home Hospital, he specializes in headache and is an Assoc. Professor at Chula.

    Dear Sheryl,

    Thank you, I will look into your suggestions, though it really is a neuro-opthalmogist that I'm seeking. It is not auras, etc. I'm getting migraines triggered by wearing glasses and using the computer, and I want someone to check the brain-sight link, and see if I can ameliorate this. I've already seen neurologists and have been on migraine prophylactics for months, with no effect yet. The neurologist says it may not be a bad idea to see a neuro-opthalmologist -- but hard to find one...

    Peter

  8. Hello,

    Does anyone know of a good neuro-ophthalmologist in Bangkok? I've migraines that are linked to my sight.

    Thank you for your help,

    Peter

    When a Thai friend had migraines she saw a neurologist at Bumrungrad. I don't remember his name but any neurologist should do. I like Dr. Kaseansom. He will point you in the right direction.

    Dear Tammi,

    Is Dr. Kaseansom a neurologist at Bumrungrad? I could not find him on site in Neurology. Can you pls advise?

    Thanks, Peter

  9. Out of Interest.....

    Why is your 'first port of call' a neurologist?

    I saw a neurologist in U.S. who suspected migraines but said I should get MRI done to make sure it is not something else. Because my time in U.S. was running out and because of the difference in cost for MRIs, he suggested I consult neurologist when I returned to Bangkok and have it done there. Thanks.

  10. how about new york or dc?

    anyone has experience with these embassies or conulates in obtaining retirement visas?

    it would seem a good idea to do this in the usa to avoid having to transfer american dollars to baht, especially now, plus one may feel more secure with a large amonut of money in ones own country and bank

    perhaps there are other advantages/disadvantages of applying for the RV in the USA / Thailand

    would love to hear more about this

    any info would be very helpful

    I found getting my retirement visa and mult. entry very easy in the US. What I did was contacted a lawer in TX who does immagration visa's (Texas Towers). The lawer from Houston ask me to send my passport , tax form (1099)for military, a local police check which amounted to asking over a beer and getting a leter from the police station station stating I had no wants or warrents., photo's ect I downloaded all the Thai form off of the internet prior to sending my package to TX in approx. 2 weeks passport ect was returned too me with a retirement visa and mult. entry. Did not even have to go to the embassey after that no problem here in Thailand getting yearly extensions. "oh" The medical Which was another downloaded Thai form was filled out by the VA for free........Hope this helps.

    Hi, thanks for sharing your experience. Just wondering, did you find that the lawyer really helped or you could have done it all yourself? You did not mention the bank account and letter of guarantee. What did you do about that? You just go to any local police station and get that letter stating no criminal record? How long must you wait? Have to bring anything with you? I'm not a vet so probably cannot get medical certificate from VA? I appreciate your help, Peter

  11. Hi,

    Has anyone recently gotten a retirement visa ("O-A") from the Thai consulate in New York or elsewhere in U.S.? Any complications? How long did it take to get it? Is it multiple entry or do you have to get re-entries; if latter, do you get them in U.S. before arriving in Thailand?

    About the required documents listed on the NYC consulate site:

    Bank statement showing equivalent of at least 800,000 -- would they accept mutual funds in that amount? Also, is it correct that when you first apply for the visa, these funds can be in a U.S. account, but if you want to extend the visa after the first year, then you must transfer the funds to a Thai bank?

    A letter of guarantee from the bank -- I'm unclear what exactly that is. Do I go to the bank and say, "Please give me a letter of guarantee"? How should it be worded?

    Verification that I have no criminal record -- Where do I get that from?

    Medical certificate issued in the U.S. -- Just wondering if they would accept one from Thailand. It's not cheap to go to a doctor in the U.S. just to get this. Or is there a cheap way?

    Of course I will also ask the consulate these questions, but it helps to hear from someone who's gone through it.

    Thanks for your help, Peter DW

  12. I also think Rutnin would be a good place to start. ... I went to see Dr.Kayleeporn ....... I would recommend bringing a magazine or book and some food...seriously I think I was there about 4 1/2 hours.

    Also Dr Vilavun who came highly recommended by the staff at Rutnin Hosp. Mighe want to bring 2 mags or books as you will have a long wait unless you arrive very early. My wife waited 6 hours to see her (no appt).

    I'm sorry, I could not find either Dr. Kayleeporn or Vilavun on the Rutnin site list of doctors. There is a Kalayanee Rajanaporn. Is that one of them? And can I ask, when you went to see them, did they solve a routine or more complicated problem?

    I've gone to five different doctors who gave me five different prescriptions for eyeglasses, and all of them make me dizzy and headachy, and I can't figure out what's wrong. One doc found the beginnings of cataracts in both eyes, but he said there was no need to do anything about it now.

    Thanks for your advice, Peter

  13. Dear George

    Thank you for your help. One more please?

    I am going to Nong Khai today. That would extend my multiple entry one-year non-imm O for 3 months, to first week of May.

    Now, as I mentioned, the "valid until" date on the original visa is Feb 18.

    However, I am also planning to go to Philippines Feb. 18 for 4 days. When I return to Bangkok, would they continue to stamp me to stay until first week of May? I hope so; otherwise no point in going to Nong Khai. Or would they give me a tourist visa on arrival and supercede the non-imm O, which expired Feb. 18?

    Thank you, Peter

  14. Has anyone done a visa run at Aran-Poipet in past few days? After Thailand closed the border last week because of the embassy attack, are only Thais and Cambodians barred from crossing? Are people of other nationalities able to still do the visa run as usual? Is the Cambodian embassy in Bangkok operating normally in issuing visas to cross into Poipet?

    Thank you for your help,

    Peter
