I think that the West has lost a great deal of interest in erstwhile parachutists..

Especially for countries that have revolving door type military coups and spew a great deal of nonsense whilst really going on with the same old bull pattery.

    What did Kipling say?

"Here is the grave of the man who tried to hustle the East."

As the Thais eternally remind the rest of the world that they are "Numbah Neung" in everything-I think that I will just leave 'em to it.

    A sensible attitude.

"As Thailand undertakes reform, it would be timely for the world’s largest think-tank to put its resources to work to advance its reform agenda internationally, said Sihasak.

“Of course, democracy and human rights matter for them, but we make clear that we prioritise stability and our reform agenda indeed leads to democracy,” he said. “Democracy is the way to go but we need time and space for evolving to reach the goal.”

What he seems to be saying is that there will be no reform ! No surprise there.

Yeah the usual charade, agree to everything, sign what's expected, then implement bugger all.

Doubtless carcinogenic??? I read it wasnt in my report in a previous  post. The main problem is not wearing protection and ingesting the stuff+over application

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3058830/

In western countries PPE is acknowledged as the least effective control when it comes to Toxic chemicals.

Generally industrial or agricultural chemicals rated as Carcinogenic are banned, (the Precautionary Principle) as is Paraquat / Gramoxphone in western countries.   The use of PPE doesn't cancel out a Ban on Carcinogenic chemicals.

What's been overlooked in this thread, is the residual element of Paraquat within the food products themselves; that's where the recipient countries of Thai food products have an ongoing concern.

Also as an airborne contaminant there's a probability that dwelling rooves in the vicinity of spraying will be affected,  such rooves are often used as collector surfaces for household Rain water consumption.

Additionally the haphazard manner of spraying and container dumping is a key factor to the ongoing contamination of water ways and consequently coastal waters, affecting Fish,  Crustaceans; Dolphins and on it goes.

What's often overlooked with Toxic chemicals is the cumulative build up in biological systems, and individual mammals.

Two possible reasons for that "slim:"

    • "The close connection of Thailand’s government to chemical giants is seen as one of the problems the change to an environmental friendly farming is moving slowly in Thailand." 09-21-2017
    • "China government has now revealed to prohibit the use and sales of any paraquat formulation in China by September 2020. As a result, export will be the only remaining option for Chinese paraquat manufacturers to sell their products."

http://www.cnchemicals.com/Press/90113-Thailand’s proposed ban on paraquat and chlorpyrifos affects China .html

China might impress upon the junta to continue import of paraquat and chlorpyrifos. Especially if a comprehensive trade war develops between China and the USA.

Considering the doubtless carcinogenic properties of Paraquat the nations that do buy Thai food products, should boycott such trade until Paraquat is effectively banned in Thailand.

I had a  woman come here and spray it once for me in some tall grass  during construction whilst I had been away, she  wore just some shorts, no mask or  gloves but best of all wa s followed  round by her children ( about 5-6yrs  old)  running thru the freshly sprayed and still wet gramaoxone. Ive given up caring for the Thai, I spent 5  years being kind  and nice now I just have no interest.

After 2 years of careful consideration I've concluded that Thailand is too far gone for me to relocate there.   2 to 3 holidays in SE Asia, Thailand maybe once a year.

Sorry, I have to disagree. Women are, IMO, destroyers, and men self destroy.

Wikipedia tells me that 2/3 of suicides are by men, and IMO a lot are due to being destroyed by women in one way or another. Men aid and abet women's destructiveness by putting them on pedestals. How many men have assured the woman they want to marry that they'll treat them like a princess and do everything in their power to make them happy? Hearing that sort of idiocy just reinforces women's opinion that they must be superior to men. Indeed, many men go out of their way to prove that women ARE better than men.

I've had a lot of experience at work of women trying to destroy me. I doubt they did it on purpose, but they did it with a sort of casual arrogance.

In my own experience over 4 decades, women definitely comprehend the power they can assert over gullible men.

A man who can acknowledge that, and preserve an emotional independence when it comes to relationships with women;  can never be subordinated to any woman's agenda.

The golden era in my home country, England, passed well before it did in Thailand.

For me, Thailand is the better option, by a country mile

I can understand that, but for me Australia remains a better option by far than Thailand.

Only the Thai women draw me back nowadays,  a reasonably quick and convenient direct flight to BKK and still a good enough exchange rate;  but I wouldn't want to rely on that as an expat.

The real issue here that this behaviour is deeply offensive to ordinary Thai's and Buddhists. Like climbing on certain statues or buildings in UK or US.

In any country there are limits to behaviour. If you travel, you should respect that countries religious and legal requirements, even if you do not agree. Belittling the protection of religious and ancient landmarks shows a lot of ignorance.

Deflecting, by saying the authorities are not doing this,  or not doing that,  so why do this, is just childish.

Then Thailand really does need to clarify the limits to Tourists on arrival, to state the bleeding obvious nowadays most farang Tourists are culturally ignorant when it comes to countries with strict religious orientated rules.

If they want the income from Tourists then the authorities need to get savvy and ease the way somewhat.

the thing I like about people here is that they do not seem to think that the Thai police cannot walk and chew bubble gum.

I imagine a tourist having a leak on Buckingham Palace champ d;elise. statue of liberty or the front of the Sydney opera house.

These things are not allowed and would not be accepted.  People would be charged and punished.  The same thing goes here.

To be honest the fact that the BIG JOIKE" is taking crime in all it's forms seriously and I AM SURE HIS STAFF is IS A GREAT RELIEF TO this tourist.  I just hope that more officers will take his lead.

You may not comprehend the difference between "having a leak" and sitting on a ledge in the outer periphery of a Temple.

Here's a practical idea,  get the Thai immigration officials to hand out a 400 page booklet of "Cannot" to Tourists on arrival.
