This moron idiot now is going to give all us foreigners driving cars

a bad name, and there's nothing more entertaining for the local people

than pointing fingers at foreigners.. what  a complete imbecilic dunce

not to own to a minor accident and be done with it....

Kinda like when a Thai does it people here judge all Thai drivers, ain't it?

Fleeing the scene is often the correct thing to do but not when the police are there!

Five minutes every five years isn't really what most people call "regular".90 days reporting is "regular".In truth maintaining PR isn't onerous.

You have a point on PR's limitations though it isn't worthless, notably its provision of an absolute right to stay and the peace of mind that confers.

Believe me, whether for PR or citizenship, an "unsuitable" wife will be an issue - albeit one not publicly discussed on the Thai side.Experienced hands will know exactly what I mean.

Are you suggesting I'm not an experienced hand?

I think you are totally wrong about the wife, I have experience in the application process of Citizenship.

First two posts are irrelevant. Then the real thread begins :

    Post #4 : a 'these idiots' post. 40 'likes'

Post #5 : a 'small dick syndrome' post. 14 'likes'

And there you have it, TVF in a nutshell. Clichés, stereotypes, Thai bashing, pathetic macho attitude, and the ubiquitous, nagging stench of white supremacist ideology. Cherry on the cake : a great round of applause for every such post.

The only 2 reasons I stay on this site  :

    - to my knowledge there is no real competition,

    - once in a blue moon there is a great article, or a great post.

Most of the time, however, reading the threads leaves me in despair about human nature in general, and white expats in particular.

Best post I have read on here.

These white guy are ironically showing the small dick syndrome themselves.

They actually believe what their wives tell them about Thai men.

This has to be a "pre paid" advertisement.....Somehow I just don't see a boom in real estate happening in Khon Kaen....ever!

I bought land in Khon kaen 11 years ago just past the museum on Kasikorn Tunsang Road for 100,000 baht a rai. It is worth 5-7 million per rai now.

I bought land near Sri Jan road for 250,000 for 1 rai. I could sell this now for 10 million.

Sigh, why do people post when they have no idea?

Not really accurate on PR as has been discussed umpteen times before. For example the police report is just once every five years - I don't even turn up.Send my driver. On the whole these posts dismissive of PR are invariably by those who don't qualify anyway.

Still if reports are true (and I have no reason to believe they're not) the citizenship route through marriage may be the best for some.Having said that I wonder whether wives background might be an issue in some cases - ie if not middle class/well educated.

I know it every 5 years, that is regularly.

I qualify for PR and nearly applied before Taksin raised it from 19k to 190k.

Total waste of money, unless you  are not married to a Thai and plan to get citizenship.

My friend got it easily back in the day as he was American first secretary and had friends in high places and thought it was great and thought he was Thai but really a waste of time for most people.

For citizenship, the wife's background is of absolutely no concern. I know as I've applied for it and my wife was asked very few questions.

Probably no one will notice but, if they do they would what with Thai bureaucracy being what it is......

Misspelling of your name in official documents is another matter altogether though.  I had to go to the Labour Ministry to correct the spelling of my name in Thai on my WP because they had decided to insert a "mai ek" where there shouldn't have been one.  SB told me about a Korean guy who had different Thai spellings of his name in his various Thai documents, including PR documents, which he had never noticed.  When they told him to go around different govt departments to correct the spellings, he was so traumatised that he never came back again, thus proving that he lacked the ability to accept Thainness with all its warts and was unworthy for citizenship. LOL.

Then surely he could go to the charity, temple whatever and get them to write a new receipt.

OK, thanks so 2x2.5 it is in colour.

On more thing, I just realized that my charity donations that I can find only got back to just over 3 years ago and every year since. And they have misspelled my surname by one letter. Could this be a problem? The receipts do have my address on them.

I can't see that being a problem if it's only one letter out. But I could be wrong. I do, however, believe it has to be 5 years ago, although 3 sounds enough.

I will be applying sometime this week with the case that I had almost a 4 month break between 2 work permits while transitioning between jobs.  I was told by the SB officer that this won't be a problem and that he only cares that my annual taxes are sufficient as if I was continuously employed at the required rate.  My first WP shows a validity that extends beyond the start of my second WP (I had just renewed my WP when I left my first job), so without careful investigation of the dates in my passport everything would appear in order when looking at my WP books, but I will see how it goes during the interview.  I will let everyone know the result.

I know it may sound ridiculous to some, but I am really excited to finally get the process started.  I have followed this thread for 8 years even before moving back to Thailand! and am finally now at a position where I am ready to apply.  If I think back to all of the hours spent collecting paperwork and making sure everything was in order over the past few years, I shake my head in disbelief.  I sincerely appreciate the contribution of the all of the "old-timers" on this thread.  You have significantly reduced my anguish in this process, and have helped convinced me to take the effort to stay the course... With the first hurdle to be cleared, now only 2-3 years (hopefully) until I cross the finish line.

    Good luck!

I also plan to apply in the next few weeks, maybe our paths will cross.

I's also like to thank the ones who have gone before us for their invaluable advice and experience.

Very strange! The crime was committed in Khon Kaen. The investigation has been conducted throughout by Khon Kaen police, and yet the alleged perpetrators are taken to Bangkok to be questioned by the head honcho of Bangkok! Perhaps the Bangkok police couldn't accept that a "rural" division of the RTP had conducted a successful operation!

Myanmar police, drugs, Khon Kaen police, Bangkok. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that there are police involved.
