You're right here. The article is an opinion piece from a right wing publication, and it's written by people who would benefit from a loss of democratic power. You're also right about the madness of wealth disparity that has caused despondency with democracy among some. The wealthiest have the cash to promote their message and agenda through people like Farage (and Trump in the US). The working classes are easily sucked in by the message because they don't have the time to dissect every bit of information and rely on biased news outlets and social media. Democracy is not perfect, but in the UK especially, it's created a much better standard of living than the working classes had before democracy. So, again, be careful what you wish for.
