  1. @JimTripper @Ben Zioner … Like @simon43 I was talking about the opportunities of leasing LAND. Apparently, you can lease LAND for up to 20, 25 or even 30 years in Thailand. The advantage could be the security over a long period of time, and the fact that the lease in ON YOUR NAME. Actually, I wondered if that could be a good solution to built a house !? Read @simon43 ‘s post,
  2. Thank y’all for your contributions. I’ll mull over the information,
  3. I was talking about LEASING land for a 20-year period … for example. I thought I read about it,
  4. Hi guys, I’m a 59 years old frenchman who will come and live in Thailand in about 4 years time. I will probably be renting as it guarantees freedom but … at the same, I was thinking about leasing (not straight away but after a while, once having explored around a bit). What’s your opinion about the value of leasing? Thanks for your advice and help figuring out that stuff, Franck
  5. … Yes, but as I said in my post, after 1 or 2 years exploring… I’ll be looking at other options,
  6. Hi guys, I’m 59 yo and I intend to retire in Thailand in 5 years’ time. I’ve been living alone for a while. I need to leave « boring » Europe to explore a new culture and setup. I’ll be 64 or 65 yo by then. I intend to move around quite a bit over my first 1 or 2 years. Previously, in 2012, I traveled twice to thailand for a total duration of three months. After my first two years, I might want to settle somewhere in a quiet and confortable place. I WILL DEFINITELY BE RENTING. I know the market is wildly different according to location but… I wonder if some of you could share information on this topic. COULD I AFFORD to rent a 80-square-meter house, with air conditioning and a 5000-square-meters piece of land with a budget of 10.000 bahts? 15.000 baht? 20.000 bahts? … per month ? You get my idea, Is that realistic ? Thanks to anyone commenting,
  7. I only visited Thailand twice in 2012 for a total of THREE months altogether. I didn’t go to Pattaya or Phuket. I tried to move around a lot with a few days in Laos and Cambodia too. I did stay a few weeks in Chiang Mai though. I’ll have plenty of time to explore thailand when I live there. I’ve traveled a lot during my life. Thailand is a good place to explore, learn and live,
  8. Thanks for sharing. Obviously, it makes sense to leave her everything. It all makes sense. Fair/Unfair… I’m no one to judge. I will mull it over,
  9. I understand the expectations. On the other hand, the thai woman has to understand that as foreigners, we are also « different » with our different norms. How to compromise in our best interests? I don’t mind to change as long as I stay safe. I don’t mind to change as long as I don’t trip over… lose my footing. I hope my english makes sense,
  10. Sound advice 🙂. Are there better platforms to talk about relationships in thailand and that kind of stuff ?
  11. But… I want to make reasonable choices and avoid mistakes as much as I can. There is much to learn from everybody else’s experiences
  12. It’s good to see that the « horror stories » out there don’t necessarily represent closely the reality on the ground. I’ve been alone for a while and don’t have that much experience. When in love, I fear I could get pressured/manipulated. I understand that taking it slowly and using common sense goes a long way… I heard that sometimes the family want to move in the house ? … I’m not sure I’d like to marry the family too. That would bring in too many variables… Thanks for your feedback,
  13. In some European countries, there are many people who live together without necessarily marrying. I mean… In an alien country, very different from our native country, marriage and the family thing seem fraught with danger. Especially, when one arrives in thailand at 64/65 yo, you don’t want to make mistakes

  15. Thanks for your feedback. At what age did you meet her? In some European countries, there are many people who live together without necessarily marrying.
