1. Martin - the temp has been down to 17/18 in the morning in Ubon city.

my gf in Ubon city has been showing up on webcam these past few mornings looking like she's about to go skiing.

Here in Surin, even the Farangs are dressing like that. :)

  2. Friend of mine has been there yesterday evening and was surprised after all the rumors here. The food was pretty good ther was nothing smelling, local beer and..... 2 nice ladys working there ( not his wife )

Just driven past and all the time I've been in Surin, I have never seen so many customers in there.

Hopefully, he is doing something right.

    Chock dee

    Dave

I did forget my previous experience, and as a lot of my customers were German this Elephant Festival, as well as putting Norbies name and address in my welcome letter, I told them all about Norbies. That could be something to do with having lots of customers. I did also call Mike on Friday, when we were overflowing, to pass some of my customers over. Unfortunately his phone was off, and he didn't call me back until 20.00. We, at the FC had a record year, and almost topped 500,000 for the week. We were chocker from 05.00 when we copened till about 21.00, when we had to close.

Thank God I'm back in hospital today. I can really do with the rest, get away from these Bar Wars. As well as that, only five bookers did not show, compared with 16 last year

  3. I doubt if this will be the last word Hussky old mucker, but just who are these Surin bar wars between. I would love to know, and I've been round the other six Farang bars in town, and they have'nt a clue either. Maybe Dave the Dude can help me here as he uses everyone of them. Dave Wot wars?

  4. ]the surin restuarant war continues...

Funny that, we have been here 7 years, and The Farang Connection for 13 and never noticed ant " Surin restaurant wars"

That's the problem, yet anther rumour monger saying we are at everyones throats. I guess though one more that can't read, as I thought I clearly stated that I told my customers other places to go apart from mine. Still, most peop[le on this forum only read with one eye. There was a time briefly, when a certain owner did try everything in his power to do away with me, and although he refused to tell his customers about us, I still; sent lots of people to him who wanted Pizza's. And I think I as well have tried every Falang restaurant in Surin. About 27 of them since I have been here.

No, Mr Husskydog, Surin is quite the opposite, all the bar owners except one getting on great with, and more important helping eacxh other. The one exception though is no trouble to anyone at all.

  5. I put in my welcome letter to all the Farangs coming this weekend, as well as Mikes, I did put Nobbies. And lots of people asked me where they were. I didn't think he had many, because once more I spotted him in the bushes seeing how many other people had.Although I use him regular, but it is well known in Udon, that he would never set foot in on of his oppositions places, except to shout abuse at his regulars going to another place. All that said, I still like the guy a little now. This diminishes month by month. It's little things like this one why people do not like him normally I once tried to help Norbie by putting him in my newsletter, when I used to write it and take it to all the hotels in town. I put there is a nice German restaurant in Soi Kola. The next time I went in there, he started shouting at me, " What the hel_l do you think you are doing. You are a <deleted>. I am not a German restaurant, I am a European restaurant. Get that f**ing <deleted> out of your paper now"

Two days later a film crew came round, from Hessicsher Rundfunk ( a German TV network) that had been filoming Gunters story, a german that owns a petrol station in Ta Meuan. They said they would like to film a German restaurant they heard was in town.

What could I say after my bollicking. I told them there was no German restaurant in town. They ended up staying a week, hiring one of my cars and spending a fortune. Thanks Norbie, anther reason to like him.

  6. Hope you have your tickets and Hotel. Nearly everything gone, same as last year. There is plenty of options for Sunday though. I have stopped taking bookings as my quota has run out.

Yes I have my bookings and tickets (got it confirmed, so at least I hope so ^^).

I booked through a guy called MARTIN from a well-known business there, called "FARANG CONNECTION" :)

Which one were you. You didn't introduce yourself as Siam

  7. Wow, the Elephant festival has started or officially tommorow it starts. About 100,000 people will be heading for Surin. So what action have the authorities taken? For the second time in five years, the airline services have been suspended to our area, Buriram(BFV) for the whole of November. OK, the last time they suspended flights to Surin for the Elephant festival. But it's all the same. If Thailand ever gets the Olympics, I guess they'll suspend all flights to BKK.

  8. Hope you have your tickets and Hotel. Nearly everything gone, same as last year. There is plenty of options for Sunday though. I have stopped taking bookings as my quota has run out.

will be in Surin too and have a rent-car with me PLUS a certain experience on Thai roads. I am planning to visit Prasat Phanom Rung too, and looking for ppl. to join me on a daytrip - departing from Surin - anyway.

Plan to go to Phanom Rung on Saturday after the performances in the elephant stadium, means, around noon.....

if interested to join, let me know.....

  10. Good day gentlemen.........IMPORTANT NEWS ON SURIN PARTY

I have for a number of reasons handed over to Mike at Starbeams for the first official Surin Farang get together.golden smile

    1) I think he needs the promotion and the run time as ,where as everybody knows where I am, not a lot of people know his place. And as Mike is a 'dam_n spifling chappie' he deserves all the breaks he can get.

    2) I cannot take the chance that I might be in hospital for this momumental first piss-up, and quite frankly I don't think I will be up to it after The Elephant Show, Xmas and the New Year Party if I am there. Today I was turned away from hospital as I was too weak to take Chemo this week.

    3) In the light of my illness I might be cutting down a little bit next year, Maybe closing on Tuesdays. But definately cutting down on our collosal menus.

Cheers to you all Martin (the 67kg git)

  11. ok here's the deal.....I will try and bring in a couple of bottles.(3)..should I manage.... if you guys are up for it...Martin can run a small raffle for the local charity.....nothing major....just a bit of fun and somebody benefits...unless you want specific....I will bring... 1 Broadside a lovely dark hoppy beer from suffolk(my favourite and on Draft in a pub near Paddington)1 Mcewans champion....and I badger champion......you guys can decide how it works....I'm just the mule ok......and....yes Dave I like the honeydew too but it is too sweet to be a serious beer...unless it is free.....no chance of that going well in FC.

Original poster...I never have quite got to grips with IPA....I think once I had a really good pint at Whitby......does that sound bad..sorry!!

    see you soon guys

Just remember in the FC we used to do

    Fiddlers Elbow

    Spitfire

    Theakstons

    Directors

    Hobgoblin

    Bishops Finger

    Wadworths

    Becks

Holsten..................................Until of course the inevitable happened and someone tipped off the customs and we had it all taken away by the boys in blue. And we paid duty on it. That was five years ago, so as you can see the vendetta against us has been going quite a while.

  12. Well, I'm glad the newspapers, television and now Thai Visa have caught up with my Breaking Bullshite. I wouldn't be surprised if the confrontation between my wife and the Cambodian soldiers, started the whole bloody thing off. :)

  13. <<I really think you should learn to read posts, or at least keep up with current affairs. They don't need to invade,as one of the temples is in Cambodia..

    Australian are you?

    From Cambodian soldiers.

They are moving in and expect a skirmish in the next hour or so.>>

    1 - Seems I can read fine

2 - Yes - problem with Australians? As you can see from my other work I do rural development in Thailand - Is that a bad thing?

3 - Skirmish with who then?

Keeping up with news - I guess you saw the news item last week saying Cambodia was conducting exercises near the border? Maybe you missed it?

My apologies.......I should have put a smiley after the Australian bit, to show it was a joke ( in English piss-take). That was a genuine post, concerned with tourists entering the area. OK if you say it's fine, then all's well. I turned down a tour there today. Maybe I should have read your post first.

It seems every good piece of advice I give on this Forum is slagged off now. OH Thai Visa, what has happened to our ( not me any more) glorious web-site. Have you been recruiting from Teak Door?

  14. So did cambodia invade or not. Any else get tired of the thai farang obsession with rumour mill. Only one farang i know ever knew what was about to happen and predicted it. All others spread rubbish. You don't think it'd be on the news cambodia was invading thailand?

I really think you should learn to read posts, or at least keep up with current affairs. They don't need to invade,as one of the temples is in Cambodia.. My wife got told by CAMBODIAN SOLDIERS to get out. Maybe they were just spreading these rumours. Although as there has been fighting there for the last year, as well as Khow Pra Vi Harn.

I agree with you fully about bullshit posters, but my complaint is people who can't or don't read the OP.

By the way I have hilighted Cambodian soldiers just in case you miss it this time.

Another thing is, as The Farang Connection is part of the Surin Tourist Assossiation, do you really think we can afford to publish bullshite.....................Australian are you?

  15. If you're having difficulty finding Ta Muang on the map, check Ta Meuan; this spelling is used on the signposts, and on the maps I have (and by Lonely Planet, which is usually correct!). (Whether there is a village called Ban Ta Muang, I just don't know)

You are right of course, it's just my way of saying it. It is not on most maps I have seen though, only the road and the village of Ta Meuan

  16. Ta Muang is situated on the Cambodian/Thai border, also the Buriram/ Surin border. Take the 224 from either Ban Kruat or the 224 junction on the Kap Chong road. Please note: the 224 is not called the 224 on a lot of Thai maps. An amusing thing happened as well. My wifes sister phoned her and tgold her not to go anywhere near Ta Muang today, 10 minutes after she'd been turned away by Cambodian soldiers.

  17. Farang con,

If you feel like "taking the piss" I suggest you aim it towards the farang connection and not here at people that try to be helpful. As for you intelligence your answer speaks for it self.

    Amsterdam

I do apologise Amsterdam, my whole life now is upside down as you well know, but I suppose if "quote"

'fuc_k you, fuc_k you very much. Cos we hate what you do and we hate your whole crew' is your idea of intelligence, well thank God we have not got too many intelligent people writing here.

    Farang Con,

Apology accepted. I am not sure what you mean with your life is upside down but good luck straitening it out. I am glad you like the song as well.

    Cheers,

    Amsterdam.

Surely you must know I have Cancer and spend half the month in Hospital. That's why I resigned from Thai Visa, I have enough <deleted> of my own without having to cope with other peoples.

  18. My wife has just phoned me from Ta Muang where we took a tour group, and she was told to get out as quick as possible.

    From Cambodian soldiers.

They are moving in and expect a skirmish in the next hour or so.

  20. Thanks for all you support guys, I realise that being successful in Thailand, where most have faltered is a terrible burden for some people to bear. But I will go on helping people until my last breath escapes from my body, and I go to the place where there are no computers for faceless people to hide behind. My visitors book is up around the 7,500 now and as a lot of people come back year after year, and a good deal of them live within a 100 mile radius at least some part of the year. This means my customer base is around 3,500, which is not bad. There is about ten to fifteen people from that 3,500 ( although, some slag my food and service and say it's terrible, yet admit they have never been here). That makes it about 1/2% of people who slag us. ( yes one half%) So really I'm not doing that bad only having 1/2% of <deleted>, when Thai Visa has about 20%

I think mods can close this post now. I don't need the praise, and I certainly don't need the other. It could have been closed after the first post actually. All I was doing was informing the wonderful people that read this, that beer cheaper than anyway can be had at the FC. I certainly didn't expect the number of faceless vermin to come crawling out of the closet and set about me.

Anyway I have now severed my connections with Thai Visa( I guess that's more expense now I must get the staff new t-shirts)

So, adios amigos and a-holes together.

  21. There are drugs specifically for the nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy as follows, very effective but due to their higher cost, Thai government hospitals tend not to use them in favor of cheaper anti-emetics. A large pharmacy should have:

Ondansetron - locally made brand names: Dantron 8, Onsia, Zetron. The imported version is Zofran.

    It is usually quite effective.

Ginger also a good idea -- sip freshly made ginger tea

    Good luck

I had the first of a series of Zetron injections today. It has helped a little. Thanks. Also I have been drinking loads of ginger tea, without too many throw ups.
