You keep your passport when you apply here. You only submit color copies of your passport(s) with the application.
I live in CNX. I was advised to renew the passport locally.

Not sure that Alien is an intended insult, the only difference in Thai between the words 'alien' and 'foreigner' is a tone mark.
I suspect 'Alien' was a translation error that never got corrected.
(kon dtaang dow)
It is more said in jest.

In LOS, it is possible for the woman to have the best of both worlds.
In fact, I am jealous as I had to study & work whilst a smart lady utilizes the best of the best.

I was on holiday there through the Marcos era. I stayed @ the Manila Hotel opposite Rizal Park. Inside was first class but upon leaving the hotel you were searched for security purposes. It took ages to get a taxi to Makati.
I was almost scammed by a family. The young lady was very attentive. We had a poker game & I was almost in big trouble.
I said that I was going back to the hotel for more $$$.
Thankfully, my neighbor in Oz had given me a contact. I started to return to lady & she fled.
BTW, in BKK, the same scam was tried. I merely asked whether they were Filipino & they fled.

The Philippines is crap .... you can have it all.
I second that. It is an extremely poor country with the Marcos regime.
There is an urgent need for birth control.

The Abbot @ the temple to which you are assigned will have all the information you require.

Join Facebook is elementary.
Resigning and having your personal information deleted is another.

So the spirit of the law is irrelevant?

I prefer to call them border runs since a person in reality does not get a visa. Many of them are not solely to get a new visa exempt entry since others are to get a new entry from a multiple entry visa of some kind.
Before the 2 visa exempt entry per calendar rule went into effect Mae Sai was not allowing a crossing unless it was with a valid visa for re-entry.
I suggest that you are being pedantic Joe.
The practical effect is similar.
I have known people use border runs so that they do not need to pay for the retirement visa guarantee or they lack the funds.

I was referring to the out-in visa run.
I have recollections of busloads going to Masai.
-
According to my understanding visa runs are against the spirit of the law.

After a few years the yearn to travel/return to your own country will wear off.
To prepare for this is important as you establish a new 'home' & social acquaintances.

Completely incorrect, having a valid visa does not guarantee entry
What does?

I choose not not to push the limits. I have had a retirement visa for 14 years.

Can anyone please tell me what happens if or when the powers that be decide that i have been here too long.
I know i am pushing the set limits regarding living here as a full time tourist, but all i would like to know is what is the proceedure .
Next time i go to Vientiane and get a TV and at the border the IO decides that i am not wanted here any more, does he just, there and then refuse my entry or does he give this red stamp i hear about and lets me stay for the duration of my visa and then i must go back to my old home country?
Thanks for any relevant info.
You stated that you are pushing the limits.
Do your research & pay the consequences (or reap the rewards).

Thailand does not get the cream of the crop in regard to long-stayers.
By far the majority come here because of the cost of living and sex.

I arrived in 2003. It was my understanding that the government was seeking old farts with $$$.
Approval to work conditions were stringent.

I have been 'utilizing' the retirement visa status for more than 14 years.
At age 69 I can see no point in aiming higher.

How often will my passport be checked once in Thailand?
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Often we go to CNX. Invariably there are police checks regarding my wife's ID & my passport.
Keep your passport in order & all is OK.
