Often we go to CNX. Invariably there are police checks regarding my wife's ID & my passport.

Keep your passport in order & all is OK.

In fact, I am jealous as I had to study & work whilst a smart lady utilizes the best of the best. 

I was on holiday there through the Marcos era. I stayed @ the Manila Hotel opposite Rizal Park. Inside was first class but upon leaving the hotel you were searched for security purposes. It took ages to get a taxi to Makati.

I was almost scammed by a family. The young lady was very attentive. We had a poker game & I was almost in big trouble.

I said that I was going back to the hotel for more $$$.

Thankfully, my neighbor in Oz had given me a contact. I started to return to lady & she fled.

BTW, in BKK, the same scam was tried. I merely asked whether they were Filipino & they fled.

I have known people use border runs so that they do not need to pay for the retirement visa guarantee or they lack the funds.

I was referring to the out-in visa run.

I have recollections of busloads going to Masai.

According to my understanding visa runs are against the spirit of the law. 

After a few years the yearn to travel/return to your own country will wear off.

To prepare for this is important as you establish a new 'home' & social acquaintances.

Thailand does not get the cream of the crop in regard to long-stayers.

By far the majority come here because of the cost of living and sex.

I arrived in 2003. It was my understanding that the government was seeking old farts with $$$.

Approval to work conditions were stringent.

I have been 'utilizing' the retirement visa status for more than 14 years.

At age 69 I can see no point in aiming higher.
