  1. I got a 3 months volunteer visa last month with the idea of adding 12 more months later (15 months total). Now that the amnesty is extended is there any way to go back after 3 months to the visa exemption / tourist visa and just pay for 60 days extensions in the future?

Is there any cheaper way for all of us that got volunteer visas during the "last days" of the amnesty?

  2. What about this part:

    Quote

After October, a new immigration regulation will allow foreigners to apply for 60-day extensions to remain in the country if they are unable to leave due to limited flights or other issues, Pornchai Kuntee, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, told Reuters.

Previously, extensions required documentation from their respective embassies and were limited to 30 days.

Would this mean it would be easy to get 60 days extension after the extra month of amnesty ends without Embassy letter?

Depends on the location of the agents. Chiang Mai and Pattaya agents seemed to be cheaper between 40-55k for a 15 month without and re-entry permit. Bangkok agents were around 55-65k so they commanded a bit of a premium.

Probably about 70,000 now.  That's a hefty bit of money.

I understand that's right now. How much does this kind of visas used to cost before covid?

  4. Can anyone tell me where I could find a coin photo booth that does ID/Passport photos in Bangkok? I am looking specially around Silom/Asok. I have done some research about this topic in the forum and all the posts seems old.

You already recently bragged in another thread how you opened 3 different accounts in 3 days.

    Now this?

Something odd about all this why do you need so many accounts??

I just proved that anyone can open an account without working visa following the requirements asked by the banks in their websites.

This is for Bangkok Bank, one of the three accounts I opened. Having online Banking available seems the most normal request to track the account and pay bills without paying for sms banking or having to go to the branch.

I see something odd seeing you in every thread I open. If you are bored maybe you could go to those bars where you judge other people:

This thread is to hear experiences from people that were able to activate Bangkok Bank online banking following their website requirements for tourist visa holders:

  7. Hello,

This thread is to get experiences from people living in Thailand with a tourist visa or visa exemption stamp only:

I don't have work permit and yesterday I got a Bangkok Bank account with UnionPay debit card, but they said I can't get online banking because I don't have working permit.

I tried to activate online with my debit card and pin and I got the error: "You are unable to apply this service". Same error in ATM machine. Today I tried to go to a different branch and they said they can't activate online banking if I don't have work permit.

Anyone using Bangkok Bank online banking with tourist visa or visa exemption? I will be happy to open a new Bangkok Bank account in a different branch in case I hear experiences from someone having online banking on tourist visa from that branch.

  8. Following up on the Internet Banking without a work permit deal... When I went to pick up the ATM card I asked about it and the clerk set it up in a few minutes. Don't know what the other clerk was on about.

I got my card today. They said I cannot get online banking since I don’t have working visa. Where did you get the online banking? Via atm first or online? Im getting an error when I try online...

Result! I was hoping that you wouldn't have to buy it in Udon as that's a bugger of a road-trip to Bangkok in a step-through.

What language is the residence certificate in?

Not trying to pop any balloons but just be aware of the possible bureaucratic pedantry when it comes to getting what you want.

It's in English, should I had get it in Thai?

According to the letter of the law, you are correct that digital nomads would appear to need Non B visas and work permits (which are basically impossible to get). However, at the current time, it is clear that digital nomads are tolerated. Others have been honest about engaging in this activity without problems. That said, I admit it might be slightly risky because of what might happen in future.

If entering often visa exempt, you are taking a risk. If you do not carry cash to helpfully show immigration at the first hint of trouble, your risk is greater, and if you hit the wrong immigration official, be prepared to be denied entry under Section 12 (9) of the Thai Immigration Act of 1979.

Would it be safer for me to get a 2 month tourist visa every time I get out of Thailand + 30 days extension in immigration instead of 30 days visa exempt + 30 days extension in immigration?

How do you plan on staying longer if you only have a 30 day visa?

I have been intermittently here for more than a year already. I am from a western country with 30 days visa exemption and I travel a lot. I manage an online business and I am still way under retirement age so there is no many options for me.

Hope somebody can help regarding motorbike registration..

If you want to risk entering visa exempt (especially when you have several previous visa exempt entries) after spending the bulk of, say, the last six months in Thailand, there are ways you can improve your chances

    • Carry 20,000 baht equivalent in cash. Make sure this is visible as soon as you are referred to a senior official for questioning.
    • Be prepared with credible answers to the question of why you are spending so much time in Thailand. Acceptable are
      • you are in a relationship with a Thai lady, but not yet ready for marriage;
      • you have taken early retirement (being financially secure) and find Thailand a pleasant place to spend the bulk of your time at present; and
      • (slightly riskier, but OK currently) you have an online business conducted outside Thailand, but which can be done anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. You find Thailand provides a good balance of the infrastructure to work, and a good living environment.

Do not suggest you might be working for a Thai employer, with Thai customers, or in any other way helping out a business in Thailand.

    • Have bank statements handy that demonstrate your ability to live comfortably in Thailand without illegal working.

Here you mean if I DON'T want to risk entering visa exempt? Is that what I should do if they ask me more questions? Bring 20k thb equivalent in cash? I have actually an online business that allows me to stay in Thailand but not sure if that's the best idea to explain to immigration officials because "working online" is also working and we are not allowed to work without working visa..

I am ready to explain why I am expending so much time in Thailand but I always travel cash-free and withdraw in the atm on arrival.
