  1. Cool, lets do it then! Im just fine on my own for the most part but do enjoy 'good' company at times. Im new in chiang mai so im interested in meeting 'like minded' people. So lets meet tomorrow as agreed and take it from there. Later , )

oh wait, Changraider, we havnt agreed on anything have we hehe? Different person. Mm, maybe you can find a way to come in the city, this time or next time. Cheers

  2. If anyone is interested in these, let me know. Could go for coffee and maybe eventually start a 'group' here in chiang mai. Not a meditation group, but an informal discussion group. Later , )

Sounds like a very good idea to me :-) there are so many more stresses in our falang countries, and it's so easy to bring them with us.

True, we westerners have been conditioned to over-analyse everything and that often takes us away from enjoying the beauty of the present moment and the simplicity of life. We create imaginary mind problems that are fictitious and we are rarely content (we being the majority of westerners), unless our (high) expextations are somehow briefly met for a moment. the emphasis that western culture puts on the self and the ego (achieving status, recognition, material wealth..) goes hand in hand with the depression bouts that so many of us suffer from when these 'ideals' are not reached...what if the self was just an illusion, a story that we run in our mind? Is there really such a thing as 'a self'? Before the age of 2 or 3 years old, humans do not have self cognition, yet we still live and function and seem a lot more happy ans open to life? where is this 'self' located? I think those are some interesting points/questions to ponder over tea or coffee..

That is an interesting thought :-) this sort of group would interest me, but I'm a long way out of the city, so it's not really practical. I rarely even see other farangs, and hardly ever to speak to, and TV probably doesn't give a very representative spread of expat views :-)

  4. East of train station 500 m. or so right side

Ya, that place has 3 wheelers electric scooters for sale. All their stuff definately looks very chinese and plasticy (cheap), more like toys. Unless you are physically impaired, i would suggest looking at different options. In France, one can buy real 3 wheelers motorbike. These are fairly popular because of the added stability they offer. Nothing like that in Thailand. Handicaped people have them custom made/adapted here from a normal 2 wheelers.

  5. i called them this morning but told me to call after 9am for chiang mai area. Did a few more tests since then and it is a lot better this morning. So i will wait and see how it goes.

For the most part, i am really thankful for the posters here on this site. I have always gotten quick and helpful answers to my diver queries. A few peeps use forums to unleash their egos, judge people, and talk in a way they wouldnt 'in real life'. In my opinion, these are the people who should 'get a life'. Anyways..it is again nice and sunny in beautiful CM. Give thanks!

  6. If you're whining (I think the Brit term for this is whynging) because your bootleg first-release movies didn't download, then get over it and just watch something else.

Bit harsh Nancy. The OP never said anything about downloading so don't know why the accusatory note. I rely heavily on reliable Internet access for my research work and suspect others do for similar purposes other than 'killing time'.

Yesterday evening it (3BB) did drop the connection 5 or 6 times in quick succession but stabilized. Today, a few times had to do page reloads of Thaivisa. For me, this very rarely occurs and generally a highly stable and fast connection. 3BB 9Mbps package near Hang Dong.

there are several problems with what that person wrote. First of all, i am here to inquire if anyone else has the same issue. I am definately not the whining type. Secondly, i think it is really wrong and pretentious to give people advices on how to live their life and to assume a bunch of things. Thirdly, yes, i do download movies etc. I am new in chiang mai, my wife is still in bangkok, i do no drink and party and do like a bit of entertainment in the evening. Anyways, im done with this. Thanks everyone for the feedback and answers. As for nancy, please ignore my posts from now on.

  7. Everyone I know in CM who absolutely, positively MUST have a reliable internet connection has at least 2 and usually three 3 ISPs. If you're whining (I think the Brit term for this is whynging) because your bootleg first-release movies didn't download, then get over it and just watch something else.

This isn't any different than when we ran a business in the U.S. We absolutely, positively HAD to have an internet connection or we lost business. We had something called a T-1 line installed at high cost in our rural area (that's probably old technology now), PLUS we had a BBB-type service over the phone lines. Come on people, if your income doesn't depend on the internet, get a life! There's a great world out here in Chiang Mai!

im not 'whining' and i do 'have a life', thks for ur concern. Im probably a lot more Outdoors riding my bike than u are..anyways..

and please define 'having a life' for me..dam_n, some people can be anoying

  9. Sansai, further toward Maejo. Sometimes I've had to demand a page twice, but 3bb has given me no disconnects.

Service in general in Chiang Mai is not up to western standards quite yet, though some of us pay for two services, and pay for upper levels, to do well.

The companies are revving up over new services now, so whatever we have will be better (or worse) a year from now; meanwhile, much depends upon your neighborhood, your luck, and pixies.B)

i see. Im definately not expecting western type of connection and im used to the now and then disconections (even in bangkok) but the way it is now i just cant download files. anyways, nothing that dramatic. I will phone them to inquire, at some point. Until then, i will just rewatch stuff stored on hard drive, and possibly get cable tv if thats how its gonna be.

  10. thks for feedback. Yes, it is a bit annoying. I just subscribed a few days ago. It worked fine for a few days, but now..I think my wife told me that True and 3BB is the same company, sort of. So that would make sense. Maybe i will give them a call tmrw if problem persists.

  11. If you take the Chiang Rai road turn left at the large crossing after the Doi Saket turnoff towards the reservoir, go for about a kilometer keep to the main road and on the left hand side you will see the Pang Faen Resort, address 116 M. 5 Pameang. You can drive in and park and then walk dogs through the grounds and into the forest area beyond. Although there are a couple of Soi type dogs in the grounds they are no problem and the owner always gives you a good welcome. The restaurant is quite good and you can have a cold beer after your long walk or even take a swim in the very large pool.

i second that. Very calm and spacious area there.

  12. personally, i think that a 30 minute drive to have dinner or something is just enough to put me off and i would end up not really enjoying that much/often what chiang mai has to offer. Just my personal take on it. I think anywhere within a 15 minute drive from town is reasonable, and quiet places can be found within that perimeter.

  13. great thread. Thanks. I will go try the 129 baht vegi buffet, since i do not eat meat. Sounds a little over priced for veggie buffet but maybe its worth it.

well, im there now (khun cHurn). Very nice buffet. Def worth the money. Its not your usual thai veg restaurant fare. Nice selection, good quality, herbal tea drinks included in the price. Will be back regurlarly.
