Show us you can walk before you go off running. Start by cleaning the rubbish off the beachs and keeping it clean. Thailand doesn't have a history of landscaping or land management outside of private golf courses. Takes a lot of work to maintain manicured green spaces. Most the greenery I've seen are just left to overgrow if it's on public land or private land for that matter.

Well, the academic fails to link money to food and rooves over peoples heads. Where did he get his doctorate, Assumption University? Is he going to pay for all the food and rent of all those out of work? I thought not. Absolutely useless, more degrees than sense. Still seems fishy to me. No police involved, Thai or UK. If it wasn't a scam and he was really held hostage, how did the "rescue" happen? Did they report the crime before he left? Who were these criminals holding him hostage, they need to be named and shamed at the very least. Or it could just be a couple of old gits thinking of a way to make a quick buck from donations gotten under false pretenses.

We need more visa allowances for qualified EFL/ESL teachers and other languages, They don't have to be native English speakers (but that would be a big plus). We don't need Russians teaching poor English to Thais either. Some places hire them just because they're white over a Thai EFL teacher who can teach/speaks better English...

Dodgy AF. We can't even be sure if this "Declan" isn't actually "The Klan" and the one holding the old timer hostage. Or if the man being held hostage at all. Nothing in the photos even indicates he's in Thailand. The man in the 1st photo and the 2nd may not even be the same person... You can't tell for sure since the face was blurred in the 1st.

This sounds like a scam. He could have just gotten the guy out of there or called the police. The British Embassy with repatriate the man for free if he wants to go home to the UK. Why would they need £2000

It's not just Thai Airways. Financial Times and Bloomberg are reporting most carriers face bankruptcy by end of May. Thai is merely the first since if was in poor financial health even before the pandemic. Most Airlines are in deep doodoo

The fact is, pretty much anyone one with a criminal background can so easily enter this country. Peado's, rapists, murderers, drugs dealers, con artists, you name it there are loads of them out here. 

 

Thailand has this "Westworld"... or I should say "Eastworld" effect on some. They go into playground mode and start losing their grip on reality, thinking it's all good times and partying. Some stay in that mindset for so long, when the money runs out and the fun stops it turns into living nightmare and they completely lose their mind.
