  1. Thanks to all of you.

have opted for a car rental for 2 days... comes out at 950/day a toyota Vigo so I guess about 2,500 for 2 days including gaz. Cheaper or similar then taking a cab and renting 2 bikes for 2 days (daughter, wife+myself) and also less risky.

    Thanks again

  2. I've never been to Phuket by plane (only by car) so have no idea if there are Meter taxi at the airport and how much would it cost from there to Kata beach?

The private taxis and hotel taxis quote it at 800 THB one way 3 people. Will it be cheaper with a meter taxi or are these fix prices?

    Thanks for any info.

    Amir

  3. OK thanks, looks like Hat Yai then. Will check out Samila beach in the daytime.

    Day time in Songkhla:

Samila beach, Songkhla aquarium (opened 6 month ago), songkhla zoo, Ko Yo museum of Thailand (very nice).

    Day time Hat Yai:

Dinner at Swans, party at Post laser, West Side, The pub (not that good anymore) and would sleep in Hat Yai...

  4. Thought we'd renew acquaintance with Koh Sireh today, not been there for a couple of years, to see how the new Hotelis progressing and it's enormous, takes up most of a hill .

and sample some Abalone at The Abalone Farm Restaurant.

Well if you are one who likes sea snails , go there .

The view and setting is sensational.

But the Restaurant was almost empty .

We had to try the abalone of course.

Had a portion with garlic and a portion with black pepper, two plates contained nine tiny abalone and a lot of onion and garlic. six hundred bht.

The menu was very comprehensive and I'm sure excellent for other fish but six hundred for nine little molluscs?

    Any body else been there?

Tropical abalone is not as good as cold water abalone as those from the atlantic (france for instance) and New Zealand for example. Any aquatic cold water species are much firmer then tropical species, what doesn't mean that abalones in Asia are not good. In france you get a kg abalones for 90 Euros (about 4,500 THB) in the market so 600 THB for abalones in Phuket is acceptable.

I am in the Aquaculture industry and heard that there is an abalone farm in Phuket. Someone knows where?

  5. There is a Thai man who rides around on a motor cycle combination at night going round all the beer bars selling cooked insects to the girls.

His combination is festooned with flowers, decorations, medallions and he plays loud Thai music on his rounds. He dresses in a cowboy outfit and should you see him you are unlikely to forget him.

Saw a similar one in Phuket selling Som Tam... Why wife could not stop laughing for at least 30 minutes....:)

  6. There is a huge store just behind BIG C opposite central world. Its quite famous.

If your standing at Central World looking at BIG C, take the Soi to the left hand side of BIG C and its down there.

You get the same material much cheaper in Rangsit. There are a dozen suppliers...

  7. If you are not too fancy, find a 10 year old house to rent near Bangkok (Rangsit Muang Ake, Bang Na,...) for 20,000-30,000 a month (ground floor and 1st floor 3 rooms and 1 office, living room and other...) Prefect for the family.

About 20,000 THB per month food expenses (including restaurants and imported farang food from Tops or food land), shool fee 70,000 a term (good private school, bilingual) per kid... That s 23,000 per month for 2 kids and you still have 5,000 US left (170,000 THB)... That s enough to "Take care" about 2 other misses... :) Just kidding!

    I would say very comfortable...

    just wondering, thx.
  8. 2 nights 3 days (fully 72 hours) will cost you 750 THB in the short term parking. I am always going for the short term otherwise, if you stay away longer, take a taxi...

I'm going to Penang on a visa run and need to leave my car at Swanpy parking. I'll be away for 2 nights. Which would be the best place to leave my car - short term parking, long term parking or Khun Nok's parking behind her Somtam cart??

  9. Krung Thai Bank worked for me with 25% down.

If you don t have a Thai Guaranteur then you will have to put 50% down....

    Hi there,

I understand getting a car loan from local finance company is very difficult, at best. I don't work in Thailand but I go through it often enough to consider buying a car and keeping it with my girlfriend :) . Is there any bank in Thailand that offers loans to foreigner to buy a car? I want to be named owner of the car.

Anyone know what is the annual road tax for the very small Honda Jazz?

    Any clues?

    Any help deeply appreciated

    Hondo

  10. In the Moo Baan I live in, noby parks in front of other people's house or only exceptional for a short time. The street should be free to park for anyone... at least were I come from in Europe... but it seems that front of the house is equal to "belongs to the house" so i don t park in front of other houses and nobody parks in front of mine... :)

This brings me to a remark... can street vendor (food) place a table in front of their booth (that is on the pathway) in the street so that nobody can park there? Customer eat inside the shop and not even on the street...

  11. Wouldn't the Varuna Yacht Club have facilities?

    Or the Jomtien Sailing Club?

Or where all the boats are stored under the Pattaya City sign?

I found View Talay Marina... but seems not to be answering phone calls.

    Will try your advice. Thanks

  12. I was wondering if there is only the Ocean Marina to berth a boat or to launch and retrieve a boat (22 ft central console) in Pattaya and area? I tried to check on the net but couldn't find any other.

Maybe some of you guys would have other infos then me.

    Thanks for your advices...

  13. I was wondering if someone would know the towing capacities of a Triton Plus 2.5 Liter 2 WD???

I want to know if i will be able to tow out on trailer a boat weighting around 900 kg (let's say 1400 kg including motor and trailer) out of the Pattaya Ocean Marine Boat slip (which has quite a slope).

    Thanks for your suggestions...

  14. Day time just turn your lights on. You won't need to brake as it might be dangerous and they will think you brake as red light will be on. You will see in the mirror that it makes them brake and get some more distance between you and them... When the line on the side is free just switch....

  15. It seems The Bulbul only lays two eggs

probably because the nest is very small?

Nice to know so many are hatching, hope yours survive

This way last year... it was quite funny seeing the parents learning their kids to fly... unfortunately one disappeared so supose only one survived...

Got a new nest since 3 weeks now.

  16. A reminder to all those people on Thai Visa that this coming weekend is the most Rugby action over the whole weekend right here in Pattaya!! Saturday 02 May from the morning and finishing Sunday 03 May late afternoon.

16 teams from all over competing this weekend, don't forget there is also the Junior Division (U.18) comp as well as the Women's Touch Football teams.

    Where? "Horseshoe Point" of course.

I will be back for it - in fact I hope I will make it back to be at Jamesons on Friday night for the "training session".

    See you there!

any address on where the horeshoe point is??

  17. probably an overseas call with a special low rate number to dial before... happens to me quite often when friends want to call me. most of the time these special low cost numbers are crowded and so getting through is difficult (example from Thai to overseas 008 instead of 001...)

  18. Easy access from Hat Yai: Ton Na Chang (elephant waterfall). Amazing, 7 steps and only went to the 4th one. Can get dangerous during raining season. Crowded on sundays as Thai Families go picnic there.

Other wise in Patthalung you can find 3 or 3 nice ones unknown except by locals living there.

Will ask the name and let you know.
