I'd be worried that he might hit a checkpoint on the way to a land border and get arrested. He should buy a flight ticket out of Thailand, take the bus to swampy and pay his fine there.
would he not already have a flight ticket ?

As far as I'm aware "But there are other people doing it, so I should be allowed to as well" is not a defence in any court anywhere in the world.
You played the game, you lost. While you might not be taking someone elses job, I presume you're also not paying tax. They've clearly picked up on what you're doing with multiple tourist visas and it has come at a time where immigration is in the spotlight (if you haven't already, read through some of the "big joke" threads). While I sympathise with your situation, Thai immigration have the absolute right to stop people from just continually refreshing tourist visas here. Sure, they don't do it to everyone, but you happen to be one of the people caught out playing the game.
I'd look into an education visa or something if I were you.
plus he said he gets accomodation free so cant show receipt if asked

Good luck mate. I would agree with other posters that say entering by land is your safest bet. If it was me, I would head over to Laos and enter from there by land but have the 20,000 equivalent in cash. I think you can withdraw US$ in Vietnam at some ATM's?
why not take the cash out in thailand cross the border with it then come back in ??????

Not a problem buying tickets at all. Most large cities have a lottery office and wins up to 50,000 baht can be claimed at the office. Major wins will mean a trip to Bangkok to collect. Major wins attract a 1% "commission" fee.
All wins attract a commission

Two for one. As well as Chow Me in Charlie's the stand next door sells fish and chips and potato scallops. Over the opposites is Touch a pretty good GO Go bar. Nearby is the cheapest Thai restaurant in Pattaya and one of the best steak houses in Thailand. Regarding rip offs. They are rare and only happen to naive, foolish people for whom the experience is a life lesson or they are false positives from people who have a victim complex. Actual scams are rare. You are more likely to find open honesty in Thailand. That is my experience. Some visitors crying ripp off take an anti malaria drug which makes them paranoid, some are village idiots with no city experience and not experienced travellers, some just thoughtless and immature and just a tiny percentage are really conned. The OP in this thread was not one because he ended up only paying a modest amount. Compared to North Africa, India, Egypt, and a whole host of other countries Thailand is a smooth, easy going, dream.

Bill padding is the norm in Jomtien and Pattaya. Pay as you go they even try charging for 2. Ask prices first. No wonder the bars are empty.

We had some Thai's working with us in Vietnam. They were not paid peanuts unless you call Baht 10,000 a day plus food, accommodation and transport all paid for as peanuts. First few days they turned up on time and seemed ok. Note they did not work directly with me but one of the other disciplines. After a few days the were asking where the Thai's were. They would come in around 9am, we started at 7am, and then they couldnt be found half the time on site.
Yes there are some very good Thai workers but the majority are not what you would call good

This is an extremely complex subject and there is no way that any foreigner can fully understand all the dynamics involved.
Thais have the same range of IQs that other people have in other countries. However, Thais are taught from birth that respect of their culture is foremost in their life. That, in itself is a good thing as Thai culture and all of it's intricacies does produce caring and upstanding citizens.
Where it all goes awry is the use of a single educational model that forces students to learn by rote, never question and never develop an inquisitive mindset. Throw in the face issue and you have a very one dimensional academic product.
My step daughter is a great example of a Thai student who is gentle; having a deep respect for Thai culture; religion and the family unit. An excellent student who excels at very difficult subjects but never asks Why about anything and keeps most opinions to herself. She is becoming more outgoing as she moves into University but the teaching methodology is the same- lecture and tests and results. She will succeed in Thai business but have a hard time thinking outside of the box and moving into an international environment.
The Government controls the educational process and therein lies the problem. Teachers are trained under the Government system. There is no divergence; no discussion of anything that could possibly be considered controversial and therefore no way to achieve the ability to think and thus have a divergent opinion.
IMHO- Thailand has good natural resources; a willing population who with proper training an education can succeed and excel. My step daughter actually on my urging gave an opinion and had the right answer- "We need a new generation, younger and with new ideas to take over". Maybe there is hope.
wonderful to hear the right answer ___ lets hope its not to long off _____

I find that highly confusing unless your children also hold a foreign passport.
If you refer to freedom in their own country, highly debatable depending on their upbringing and family.
If you refer to freedom to travel and work abroad etc, also highly debatable as Thai nationals cannot easily travel or emigrate around the world.
the richer you are the easier it is i suspect

What complete nonsense. You can either have a daily weekly or monthly plan. You dont sign up with AIS for anything other than a monthly plan which with his 200 baht he couldnt get. Daily and weekly promotions are bought ad hoc and do not repeat. If the OP just uses data without a promotion he will quickly use 49 baht at which point they will send an SMS to say he now has free 512mb for 24 hours.
I have weekly 99 B repeating
