I went to the Chiang Mai police and got fingerprinted. Used that for the FBI report. No problem.

A visa agent today told me that if the balance drops below the 800k/400k minimum, the visa is considered expired on the day the balance went too low. At that point you are considered to be on overstay and subject the the applicable fines, blacklist from Thailand, etc. Someone please tell me I'm wrong.

If you have Windows, you could use the on-line reporting. If you're on other OS's, use the post office.
I did it with macos a couple of weeks ago. Firefox or Chrome, can't remember which.

One time we had a problem printing Hubby's "next appointment" slip. I filed his report online and he received an email approval within hours, but when I tried to print the "next appointment" slip, I received a message, in Thai, that the system couldn't locate the record. I checked for the next couple days with the same results and gave up. Instead, I printed the approval email and put that in Hubby's passport.
When the next 90 day report was due, he filed in person and showed the approval email, explaining the problem. It was a simple matter of the I/O looking up the history on her computer and seeing that he had indeed filed online for the previous 90 day report.
You correctly put "next appointment" in quotes as it appears to be a misnomer. I find no referenced to the next appointment in my approval receipt.

So 800K baht is not petty cash? That is a low cost requirement!
How in the whole wide world can somebody even think about retirering in a foreign country without a minimum buffer like measly 800K baht?
bragging, are we?

There is no reason for an increase at this time, and the Thai government don’t want us gone!
I am only surprised that these worthless embassy letters/affidavits have been accepted for so long.
I'm not so sure about that. The Chinese are bringing in plenty of money and the ethnicity issue works in favor of them and against almost all of us.

The 800K is clearly recoverable because you’re not spending it.
The PE visa is a great option for people that can afford it and write-off the cost, but it’s not the most cost efficient way for most expats to stay.
What is a PE visa?

Time for all of us to wake up and smell the coffee. We go by their rules, both written and unwritten, and they are changing and enforcement is changing.
We are no longer God's gift to the Thai economy or to Thai women.
