  2. To date, 5,397 #Omicron #COVID19 cases have been detected across the 71 provinces of #Thailand. 3. Government to conduct more tests in bid to halt Omicron The government plans to conduct more proactive Covid testing to halt the spread of Omicron, the government said on Monday in a scheduled press conference. A spokesman also added that people with mild Covid symptoms should do home isolation instead of burdening the health system. https://www.thaienquirer.com/36349/government-to-conduct-more-tests-in-bid-to-halt-omicron/
  4. Thai virologist downplays presence of new ‘Deltacron’ COVID variant A senior Thai virologist has dismissed the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant, unofficially dubbed “Deltacron” as reported in Cyprus, noting that it is possible that the RNA of both the Delta and Omicron variants was contaminated in laboratories. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/thai-virologist-downplays-presence-of-new-deltacron-covid-variant/
  5. I found out today that the number of international arrivals testing positive are not all from their Day 1 in #Thailand. Even Sandboxers who walk around Phuket for seven days and then test positive are counted as an imported case. Local cases start after Day 10. See thread https://twitter.com/ThaiNewsReports/status/1480444536685875202
  6. Dr Muiris Houston: Omicron may push Delta out for good Latest variant is likely to raise immunity, ushering in a sharp drop in transmission Could we really be entering our third year of uncertainty with Covid-19? A successful vaccine programme (at least in this part of the world) has made a difference, but we remain firmly in pandemic mode. So is Sars-CoV-2 fated to become our ‘groundhog’ virus? https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/health-family/dr-muiris-houston-omicron-may-push-delta-out-for-good-1.4770939 Queues at a Covid-19 vaccination centre in a shopping plaza in Bangkok, Thailand. 7. A new Covid-19 testing centre, capable of conducting up to 1,000 tests a day, will open in Bangkok tomorrow, as the capital grapples with a surge in new cases. Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul says it will be on the first floor of Car Park Building B at the government complex on Chaeng Watthana Road. https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/bangkok-opens-new-covid-19-testing-centre-amid-surge-in-infections
  8. Most people with Omicron do not have any symptoms, but for the ones that do, here are the 8 most common ones: Cough 54% Sore throat 37% Fever 29% Muscle pain 15% Runny nose 12% Headache 10% Difficulty in breathing 5% Loss of sense of smell 2% https://twitter.com/RichardBarrow/status/1480364504936423426
  9. UPDATE: 7,926 confirmed cases, 1,423 probable cases (ATK), and 13 deaths (0.96%). Out of 58,159 patients , 33,286 are in hospital, 22,184 in hospitel and 1,763 in home/community isolation. There are 495 in a serious condition (+11) with 115 on ventilators (+2) #Thailand https://twitter.com/ThaiNewsReports/status/1480350693059817472 We shouldn’t be focussing on the number of new cases as its inevitable this will continue to go up as Omicron is so contagious. Instead we should be keeping an eye on the number of people in ICU over the next few weeks. This will tell us if the vaccination program was successful.
  10. Chonburi Public Health Office is reporting 767 new cases today and two more deaths. Most new cases are in Chonburi City (119), Si Racha (165), and Bang Lamung/Pattaya (390). 11. Phuket is fast running out of beds for people testing positive. Locals with mild symptoms can isolate at home, but international arrivals have to quarantine either in hospital or their hotel. Yesterday, another 229 arrivals tested positive. There are only 985 beds left. #Thailand Quote Tweet Thai News Reports: Today, Phuket reported a two year record of 742 new cases, out of which 513 were local and 229 were from abroad. There are now 3,126 people in care. At this moment, the island only has 985 beds left #Thailand https://twitter.com/RichardBarrow/status/1480320241695543298
  12. Taken from yesterday's update: Can anyone explain this? In the Top 10, it says 416 cases for Phuket which is only local cases. It doesn’t include 219 from elsewhere. However, Samut Prakan shows 669 cases (352 local cases and 317 from elsewhere). So, why is the Top 10 not showing 635 cases for Phuket? #Thailand https://twitter.com/RichardBarrow/status/1480076998185684992

  15. CORRECTION: Earlier, we posted that Phuket had 416 new cases out of which 219 were from abroad. The national Top 10 also listed Phuket with 416 new cases. Our tweet should have read, Phuket reported a record 635 news cases, out of which 219 were from abroad. We regret this error. https://twitter.com/ThaiNewsReports/status/1480043232385847299
  16. UPDATE: 8,511 confirmed cases, 1,265 probable cases (ATK), and 12 deaths (0.96%). Out of 53,858 patients , 29,643 are in hospital, 21,632 in hospitel and 1,832 in home/community isolation. There are 484 in a serious condition (-51) with 113 on ventilators (-17) #Thailand https://twitter.com/ThaiNewsReports/status/1479986150378856448
  17. We’ve gone from 3,011 new cases on 1st January to 8,511 cases reported today. (There were also 1,265 probable cases today using ATK tests.) Of course, the real numbers are higher as there isn’t mass testing like in other countries. But it does show us the rising trend. Stay safe. https://twitter.com/RichardBarrow/status/1479983375767072768

  19. Top official describes the popular ‘Test and Go’ entry as a loophole exposing Thailand to Omicron The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Friday did not go as far as public health officials had demanded by banning alcohol sales nationwide. Nonetheless, it is believed that a further tightening of regulations has begun. Business leaders are warning the government the country cannot deal with further lockdowns with confidence among foreign tourists already damaged by the suspension of incoming tourism with 87% of potential travellers rejecting the complicated Sandbox schemes. https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2022/01/08/test-and-go-blamed-for-omicron-in-thailand/
