  1. Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this so please let me know if I should ask this question somewhere else.

I want to get some personal things shipped from Bangkok to Sydney. Does anyone have any experience doing this and if so can you recommend a service provider. I'll be looking to send a medium size box weighing about 30kg.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

    Regards,

    strewth mick

Was chatting to a friend yesterday, he claims that in virtually every couple where the woman is better looking than the guy, it's costing him...would you agree with that ?

This is not to do with the woman being better looking but more to do with the guy being a soft cock.

Just been to my embassy in Bangkok.  What a sad sight on the BTS,  where 90% of all Bangkokians are just staring down on their phone , not for a second they can take a break from it.

If you want to meet a girl face to face , try to look for the ones who are not staring down on a tiny screen all day. They are the ones who are intelligent. Make eye contact and go from there.

You want to avoid the zoombies,

    Great post Balo.

    Thank you.

The future for men can only get worse. Money has always played a big part and when countries get richer, start dishing out social security, and women more independent they need men less. So I'd imagine eventually any advantages enjoyed in places like Thailand will disappear.

In the UK it's difficult to date someone much more than 10 years younger, unless you're super loaded. I met a few English women up to about 50, they reminded me of my mother or even grandmother ! I realized I was screwed back home.

Only today someone has sent me a photo of her boss who is looking for a man. 49 year old rich Thai women, but certainly won't win any beauty awards. I told this employee there's only one problem...my c*** would never get hard !

The thing is countries aren't getting richer. Governments are just printing money and the quality of jobs is decreasing. To think people actually talk about driving for uber as a serious job these days. In reality the gig economy is just an excuse for big American companies to exploit their work force.

In Thailand the job quality is even worse. The government claims very low unemployment yet the majority of workers do nothing for 80% of their working day. Take for example taxi drivers waiting for a job or hotel receptionists who only meet and great new guests. Maybe this is why the average monthly income in Thailand is something like 12k - 15k baht.

I take what you say on board but the reality is Thailand is not getting any richer and there will always be a steady flow of European pensioners to give the women a better life.

Why post nonsense? Not every Thai woman on a dating site is a hooker.

I met my wife on Thai love links, she has never asked for 1 baht, now nearly 8 years since we first connected.

A  more perfect wife you couldnt find.

She works full time (school director) comes home takes care of me, wakes every 2 hours to help me turn on the bed,

Now all you pl+++ers saying they are all out for money take note, you are wrong.

A classic "I'm alright jack" post on Thavisa.

Just because you have found a wife that suits you doesn't mean its the norm.

Would be a good idea to consider London as a model, or even better Singapore.

Not sure what you mean about using London for a model?

If you mean a model for how to make the roads unusable then yes London is a good model. Ask Boris Johnson to come up with a cycling scheme for Bangkok and also ensure that there is a plan for considerable roadworks for the next decade.

Whatever the case may be .....CORRUPTION BEGETS CORRUPTION.....EVIL BEGETS EVIL

Thailand has, no doubt, set itself up for just this type of scandal. This just might be the ticket that Thailand needs to come to terms with its plague of 'massive internal corruption problems'. Let it be said that things have to get worse before they get better. A corrupt society from head to toe. Personally I think that corruption here is too imbedded and

this issue will just fizzle out. Too bad.

    :welcomeani::WPFflags:

In Thailand it is petty corruption......look to the UK for the real stuff

and BTC is not private ... a little investigation can find the holder.  Not easy but doable.

BTC is not easily traceable as you say. An anonymous wallet can be set-up in seconds............then once a transfer is made to that wallet those funds can be sent to a tumbler that conceals any further movement of the funds. No amount of investigation can find the holder.

Did you actually read the story, or the other account?

Taxi driver wants to off the meter, tries to top up on the tolls, adds an imaginary 50 baht airport fee (They all try this at departures level, where it is supposedly forbidden to pick up passengers) then expects a tip, upon refusal of which he refers to the westerner as a cheap charlie. This is not uncommon.

I don't feel any compassion to taxi drivers on the take and then cry foul just because they lose face.

"He did not ask for 300 as was claimed, he said, and was not eventually given 200 for the three tolls that would have to be paid."......this is part of the taxi drivers story. Did you read the article? Did you read my post that said there are two sides to the story?

I'm not particularly interested in this story to be honest. The western guy isn't that likeable and he has used the whole thing to gain attention for himself.

But you feel free to condemn the taxi driver.....that's your choice and it only reflects on you.

Unfortunately there are too many factors that complete a soup of disaster in this area. That the education programme, and the level of knowledge and common sense to solve problems doesn´t even exist in the techers mindset we already know. That´s only one part of the soup, though.

The country has an ingrained lack of disciplin, and an even greater lack of respect for human beeings, lifes and moral values.

As for the disciplin, that starts already at a very early age. Here you can, in almost all areas, see children from the age of 2-3 years old. They are running free in the street, only to be taken care of by their 1 or 2 year older siter or brother. Where is the parents? Oh, I can tell you! They are deeply connected to their mobile phone screen, checking up everything that goes on in their little virtual kingdom. In other words, they have totally forgot about what the children needs from start, in form of a stable family with moral values and disciplin in all areas needed.

When the brain is mush from start, the knife cuts very deep.

    Well what do you know?

You are having a moan on this thread too.

    Totally Ridiculous!

Thailand actively recruits >30 million tourists a year - about 1/2 the population of Thailand. Expecting a zero failure rate is unrealistic. Even if only .01% of tourists do something offensive that would still be  3,000 problems offending Thais. Thais need to get a thicker skin about these really minor screw ups and save the outrage for the really heinous stuff.

Why are the very most sacred sites open to Tourists in the first place? Because the Temples enjoy the income. The monastic body governs itself for the most part, and I doubt the government or social pressure could cause temples to shut their doors to tourists income. Clueless tourists are part of the deal.

Should these tourist know better - Not really - how much research is reasonable to expect for a two week holiday to a place you've never been?

Lighten up Thai society!  If you are that uptight aim at the right solution -  petition the very sacred Temples to close their doors to tourists  - expecting perfection from 30 million visitors is unrealistic!

    Very well said.

    Thank you Wuvu2

Maybe I'm not writing it right? I said nothing about being bored?

When you refer to FB and stuff living here it might be making things worse watching others brag about what they have? It is crazy Thai will post picture of people who just got into a accident laying in bed all bang up. Then it is bragging about their boob job, nose job etc.. it might be helpful with the boredom of their jobs but also might make people depress. I also didn't say Westerners are happier either. Since you mentioned that is the point the old Thai guy is making?  Now with access to the Internet etc.. they see what the West think and have so they want the same borrowing all they earn to have it is what making Thai look so unhappy end of the day at the bus stops. Sure you can play on the IPhone, Samsung 10 but you still got to pay for it!  Credit is a curse a disease make people unhappy especially when you can't really afford it?

My post was just my observations and not necessarily a response to what you wrote.....I think we agree with each other anyway.

I understand your point, but it is all relative to the country what the wages are?  My point is regardless of what they make, people get caught up in trying to keep up with the Jones, living beyond their means, striving to have what others have to the point it makes them miserable. End of the day sure it just might be they are tired but I know there was a time I stood at the bus stop thinking so many bills to pay?

I find this all very difficult to get my head around. I agree with you that its about just being happy with what you have but on the other hand if people are really bored in their day to day lives then I encourage them to do something about it. Living in Thailand has helped me understand how low education standards can suppress people......if they don't know what's out there to be experienced or learnt they won't have the desire to do so. Also, mass adoption of the mobile phone and facebook has helped people to get through the day to day boredom which I see as further suppression.

Having said all of that I don't see Westerners as being happier. Most people I know are stuck in a similar system of going to a fairly unstimulating day job and they have been doing it for decades.

Majority of the population live outside of Bangkok, I remember sitting on the bus with a retired government official during the big flood a few years back who once lived in New York.

At one of the bus stops he told me look out the window and what do I see?  I said people and he reply look at the faces?  see Thai people today look like Americans after each day at work " sad and worry expression "  today Thai people here in Bangkok no Land of Smile anymore?

I agree with that. I don't see happy people in bkk which I understand because sitting around doing nothing (working) all day for $500 a month would not lead me to be happy under any circumstance.

Well, you won't have to worry about that any more, since Uber in SE Asia (including Thailand) is going out of business, leaving Grab in their wake.

But having an attractive, successful business isn't ONLY about low prices alone, it's also about providing good service, dependable service, honest service, and meeting the needs of your customers. And that's where Uber drivers in Thailand blew away the typical taxi mafia colored-taxi drivers, and became very popular among the locals here, myself included.

Never had an Uber driver try to cheat me on the fare. Never had an Uber driver refuse to take me where I wanted to do. Never had an Uber driver stop mid-trip and pretend to have engine trouble, only then to drive off after I got out of the taxi because he thought there was too much traffic. Etc etc etc.  They made their own bed, and now they're having to lay in it.

Yep....looks like the taxi mafia is winning in Thailand.

I don't use taxis much so maybe that's why I've never experienced the problems you talk about.

It's not the troops who typically get rich. It's the bosses.

I think the mafia term more relates to their style of dealing with business and any rival competition.

A sad world we live in when people are happy with the way uber deals with the competition.................using venture capitalist funds to be unsustainably cheap in order to destroy existing taxi mafia. Its called predatory pricing and is illegal, for good reason, in a lot of countries. Uber also get a competitive advantage by exploiting tax loopholes.

Just a gross transfer of wealth that should be boycotted in its current form.

  17. 1 hour ago, balo said:

The taxi mafia probably made a deal with Grab so they get something back. Ask any taxi driver now and they just accept them , unlike Uber drivers who were chased around like criminals.

When people call taxi drivers part of a "mafia" I have this image of all the drivers being really rich......in reality driving a taxi is a pretty average paying job. Their mafia is a failure.
