Are you aware that it is illegal for you, a foreigner,  to carry or use a Taser in Thailand? It is a restricted weapon. You won't be so cocky when you are sitting in a detention center waiting on the family to come up with the money to avoid jail time.

The difference between slave and a free man is that free man hold a gun and it was a main reason why American revolution happened. I think you know the story. Anyone who has at least some self esteem will never accept the fact to be disarmed completely no matter that law says. How you can be disarmed in presence of packs of stray dogs at every corner.

I still think taser is not efficient, too expensive and have only one shot. A simple sharpen screwdriver is very efficient at close combat and absolutely legal. A powerful blue laser makes wonders, just point it into dog face and you will see it will run away from your path, no sound, no disturbance, no problems.

It is quite obvious that someone is demonstrating violent tendencies with the threats of stabbing a dog, or throwing stones or bashing in a dog's brains. A sane and non violent person does not undertake such a rant. I don't know if it is for attention, or if it is displaced aggression or a manifestation of a violent predisposition. All I can say is that if I ever come across someone intentionally inflicting  harm to another living creature, I will intervene as will the Thais I know.

Doing such harm to an animal, even a stray can result in serious legal consequences and public shaming in  social media. All it takes is a picture and a facebook post. One saw what happened in Pattaya to the cowardly  Australian with dyed hair and a machete who attacked the Thai  and who then tried to lie about the event. He was pilloried in public  and now has some expensive consequences.  Think before doing something foolish as the consequences could be serious legal problems, physical harm or even death.

People brought to despair. When you or you babies stay at danger , terrorized by packs of stray dogs at daily basis no one will afraid facebook post!!! Every dog on street without owner is an act of public aggression and offence. There is no developed country in the world where dogs without owners are tolerated.  In Japan they put them in gas chambers, in UK and France they do injections, in US they shoot. There are many states in US where it is legal to hunt for feral and stray dogs. Only here in Thailand they values vermin predators more than human safety, this is disgusting! People need to stand up.

  3. Jinda Kanchan showed to everyone in Thailand how to be a hero!!! The memory about him will stay for decades, people will start telling stories about his brave deeds, how how many children he saved from feral beast attacks. He will remembered in people memories like Robid Hood or Theseus who killed the Minotaur.

Government is not going to fix stray dog problem, it will be more and more dogs on the streets. It is time to act and start building your dog hunting arsenal. Powerful lasers, slingshots, hand catapults, poisoned darts- everything works. They sell all that stuff in online Chinese stores. Cheap and deadly.

Good guys sleep night time, bad guys go hunt for dogs:)

  4. The cheapest way to eliminate soy dogs is for sure shooting. Shooting is cheaper 4 times than lethal injection and 100 cheaper than sterilization. Even the reach country like USA still uses shooting in many states to eliminate street dogs. For example in Utah USA the bill HB 210 was passed to allow shooting feral animals. Not only animal control shoot stray dogs in Utah, but also volunteers have a right to do so. This is that we need in Thailand too.

  5. Jinda Kanchan I can only show my respect to you. I hope you will be fine and avoid all fines and prosecution. Soy dogs in this country are out of control. Government do not do anything to reduce theirs number. Soy dogs multiply in numbers from year to year  and became more aggressive. Many people including young children mutilated by dogs and become disabled for the whole life.  In places where few years ago were no soy dogs now are dozens. People cannot tolerate that anymore. Government needs to introduce strict dogs laws and animal control. Every dog needs to be chipped, registered and tracked. They need to introduce dog tax, dog licensing and severe fines for letting dogs roam streets without owners. Animal control need to check streets and collect every dog without chip and if dog is not claimed by owner put it down.

Animal cruelty law was illegally introduced  by military junta in 2014. This law is not working properly, designed bad way, it should be cancelled, until new proper law will be introduced.

  6. It does not matter how many dogs are sterilized or putted down, if there are a lot of irresponsible dog owners around, new dogs will join street life. We need more tight dogs laws here including.

    1. Every dog should be registered, chipped and tracked.

    2. Dog tax to support animal control should be introduced. The bigger the dog the more is the tax.

    3. To own dog heavier than 10 kilograms dog licenses should be required.

    4. Animal control should collect any dog from the street without chip, put in dog storage for 10 days. Dogs claimed from storage can be given to public after payment for chip and registration. If dog not claimed during 10 days, it needs to be put down.

    5. Fines for irresponsible behavior should be introduced, like: feeding stray dogs in public places, let dog go alone roaming streets, getting rid of dog and many others.

If some animal welfare groups do not want to let unclaimed dog be put down. They build dog charity on theirs money, pay for dog license, pay tax for every dog, pay for registration, pay for chip, take unwanted dog from animal control and store them inside theirs charity.

So You suggest it would be a awesome idea to invide people like that from african and arab countries etc to provide cheap labour to boost the economy?

Your English teacher friend for example...if he wants a marriage visa shouldn't he be able to provide for that familie at least? 40.000 baht sounds fine to me as a requirement for that.

400~800k baht sounds fine to me as well to get a marriage / retirement visa. Its not that much really.

Thailand should not be forced to provide for foreigners that have no money.

You know where is a war in Syria and many people were forced to leave theirs home country and move out, mostly to Europe and Tourkey. I still believe that Thailand can accept refugee from Syria and help poor people. Refusing to enter here to anyone who has no money is just plain egoistic. Refusing to give poor people marriage visa is same as above. Do you think only reach people should be allowed to marry Thai?

Marriage visa is not limited to your monthly salary. A mix of funds in your bank account + salary is possible as well.

And since he works as a teacher he has a work permit that provides him with a visa already.

If foreigners could buy land / houses or set up companies without thai people hired for each falang how long do you think it would take till prices go up so much while labour costs go down that thai people couldnt buy anything anymore?

Citizens should always come first in their own country.

It is a market prices can go up and down, there is nothing wrong if prices go up, it will boost construction industry and workers will have better salaries. In US and Europe any foreigner can buy a land and a house and receive residence after buying. If it works in western world why it cannot work here?

If foreigners could buy land and open business without opening thai company with thai nominee it will simplify bureaucratic procedures and give better property rights, as a result more investments come here and economic growth will go faster with rising local salaries. The only persons who will have a disadvantage after that type of reforms are corrupted state employees. Thailand needs better measures against corruption rather that threatening "ïllegal" migrants and enforcing destructive protectionist laws.

Your overall principles for animal control are right, but you have no idea about Thailand if you think these draconian measures are going to work here.

Totally different countries, totally different outlook of people, not to much jungle and snakes, etc. in the Netherlands. Keeping dogs outside can be very useful at times .........like the snake I caught outside the house five minutes ago because the dogs alerted me (surprised me I thought it was too cold). Remember, this is you complaining and your not Thai ( I am not even sure you actually live here).

If you think draconian fines etc. work, think about shooting people for drugs, did it work here? No. Will it work in the Philippines? No.

Think about how many people die from traffic accidents per year despite the laws; think about arming 15 million people in Bangkok with shotguns to shoot the 5 million stray dogs and then instead of beating the same old useless drum, do something useful and think of something that will actually work in Thailand. Ask your girlfriend for suggestions........... see yourself dying of old age before you get an answer and a workable solution; and then make the best of being here (if you are) by supporting those charities that are making a small but sure impact.

Wait, i never proposed shooting people for drugs, I am not a Duterte fan, lol. My idea is to implement best practices, proven approach what works in other places. Yes i know people  in Netherlands, UK and Thailand have different mindset, but in time of globalization thai society is westernizing and globalizing in all aspects of mentality. Europe and USA is just a perfect sample of universal values. Thai mentality about dogs will be rewritten with western approach, there is no other options, it is just matter of time. At the moment stray dog population is rising rapidly from year to year, because they have no animal control, no kill policy, they prosecute volunteers trying to reduce dogs numbers, not only bad guys who poison dogs at night but also organisations like soy dogs. They restrict soi dog foundation outside of phuket, even for this charity organisation it is not easy to sterilize dogs here. They have to tighten and enforce dog laws and shut some monks mouths about preaching to feed soy dogs, otherwise they will loose income from tourism industry and end up with millions of dogs in every place.

    You say:

"If I was a thai parliament member i would pass a law similar to UK, Netherlands or Switzerland about dogs."

Well, fortunately you will never be, as I said before you are in the wrong country and just wasting space with wishful thinking.

Also nonsensical thinking, showing again how little you actually know about living here. There are comparatively few large imported dogs in Thailand and those that are  here 99.9% of the time are well looked after by their owners, if only because of the cost.

The dogs that do cause problems are usually the local bitsa's because people don't mind feeding them, but rarely take any responsibility for their behaviour.

However its true that sometimes people do abandon larger dogs, usually because the cute puppies outgrew their expectations (as in every country). Again this is where the institutions like Soi Dogs (and Battersea dogs home, etc.) come in to rescue them.

Certainly we need better laws and a government willing to take responsibility for rabies control as in every other country - including the US which cannot be classed as a nanny state. Only a failed/failing state at the moment, with yet another gun nut massacre yesterday.

If you were in the Thai parliament, you would be voting for diridribles and useless subs like the rest ..........or else.

However, Netherlands reached zero stray dog population at the moment. That means if dog laws enforced properly it works. I think Thailand should look at Europe approach to that problem and implement something like that. In Netherlands chipping dogs is mandatory and fine for abandoning dog is around 650 000 baht. And no one can avoid it cause all dogs can be tracked. Considering the fact average salary in Netherlands is 3 times more than in Thailand the fine for abandoning dog here should be around 200 000 baht. If they introduce that law here and managed to enforce it, it will be possible to reach few hundreds stray dogs per country and only after that they can introduce no kill policy, cause handling small number of dogs in charity is not expensive. With current numbers of stray dogs no-kill policy is just absurd.

Thailand is surrounded by extremely populous nations China, India, Indonesia, Philippines and Bangladesh, the aforementioned countries have more then 1 billion people who lives under an extreme level of poverty, earning less then 3 dollars a day, relax immigration rules and you'll get flooded instantly, the Phills and Bangladesh has huge number of unemployed population exceeding the 60 million cap, for example in the Gulf region they are more then 12 million of these workers, relax Thai work permit rules and you'll get them overnight.

Plus they got the Cambodian and Burmese, so Thailand aint in need of human resources and wants only to attract wealthy individuals from all around the world including African businessmen, who'll bring in cash or investments and for those people, it s very easy for them to get longer term visas and work permits (elite visa, BOI Companies etc..), so someone like Aliko Dangote will be received here with the red carpet.

if you are over 50s and you deposit 800k in the bank you'll got retirement visa,

if you pay 500K you'll get 6 years elite visa,

if you form a company you'll get a work permit,

if you pay a university course you'll get an education visa.

if you have a work permit and you've paid your social taxes for at least 3 years in a row you can apply for permanent residency.

if you do not have money or Job then simply do not come here, Thailand's priority is taking care of the welfare of its citizens.

All that is very easy and straightforward process ? so what else should Thailand do ? bring all these jobless migrants and refugees and pays free welfare to them at the expense of the taxpayer's money ? sorry Thailand can not imitate the madness of the west.

China, Indonesia and Malaysia people have higher salaries than Thai. India and Bangladesh at the moment have lower salaries, but both India and Bangladesh are democratic countries and have better economic growth. If current trend continue for 15 years than Thailand will be at the bottom.

I do not see any madness in West. Western countries become reach cause they have immigrant friendly policies for generations. I never told about paying free welfare for migrants, but Thailand should make procedure of getting work permit, citizenship and visas more liberal.

For example in UK you can apply for working visa outside of the country and they give you 3 years work permission, after you can enter UK, find job there and work. You do not need to go immigration check every 90 days and renew Visa every year. Easy and comfortable, because in west they threat people with dignity.

Here in Thailand they use migrants only for collecting money, they charge for everything, not too much, but you need to visit this immigration center every 90 days, and brings tons of document every time. For example if you marry Thai you need to declare 40 000 baht month income to get marriage visa. It is nonsense. How and average person working in Thailand can have that income. My friend works as a teacher here, getting around 35 000 per month and cannot get marriage visa.

If you marry thai citizen, they should give you visa with work permit before you earn money and after with this work permit you can go and look for a job here, this is how immigration works where government care about people, but not only think how to setup corrupted schema to soak money from foreigners.

You left out the 3rd way - deportation.

The solution is not difficult:  Hire an illegal = go to jail for a very long time.  It's treason, after all, to destroy the lives and families of your fellow citizens this way.  Most bosses are not like drug-dealers, so won't take the risk if enforcement is ongoing.  Then watch wages go up, and the middle-class expand.

Don't you think if state segregates people on two categories legal and illegal is quite same thing as racism. If some one agree to wok for less salary it is just free market competition, making national goods more competitive on world market. By making more restrictions on hiring migrants you only destroy national economy and increase illegal activity.

  13. 10 hours ago, Mansinthe said:

Well people still need to go to a language school before they get that marriage Visa. (A1-for germany )

Before they are able to work there is another  language school ahead of them (A2 and B2)

Both levels are around 800€ each.

For citizenship that person needs to work 5~6 months at least and have another test for citizenship.

So it comes at a cost and some effort is required. And actually citizenship with german passport takes years.

While most illegal immigrants in Thailand have neither of all that.

I actually like the idea that Thailand is not that easy for foreigners to buy land / houses / condos and that there are requirements for retirement visas and so on.

Wish we had that in Europe. Keep immigrantion of certain nations low.

go vote for NSDAP and new hitler, lol:)

The idea foreigners cannot own land here is stupid. Thailand loses billions of investment money and distract reach people. I like European approach to migration, if you buy house let's say in Spain you get permanent residence - this is how good state should threat people. Anyway multicultural society benefits everyone in every state, migrants bring new ideas and collaborating together with local people the whole society can achieve better living and cultural standards.

  14. This is typical racist approach. If they want afro thai will not be involved into criminal activity they need to get them legal work permit. I would start  migrant decriminalization campaign. So any migrant living there with overstay can go immigration center and receive new legal visa with work permit. It will reduce amount of illegal migrants here giving them legal status and better integration into thai society.

I need to notice that current thai immigration policy enforce foreigners into criminal activity because getting legal work permit is quite complicated procedure. When people cannot get work permit they just have no other chance rather to go criminal way. You know in Europe and USA if you marry with citizen you immediately get visa and work permit without  any other requirement like money on bank account or income proof. And after very easy way to citizenship. Thailand needs to be less racist and more migrant friendly like western world.

You can die from an infection from picking your nose; but nobody should die if they bother to take minimum precautions to clean and disinfect a wound, especially in the tropics where wounds can fester very quickly.

Too many locals don't bother even to get snake bites treated properly and so die.

It is axiomatic that if you are bitten or scratched by an animal you don't know its heath history that you should get a couple of rabies jabs - even if you have been inoculated. Which everybody should be.

    Just common sense

Common sense is to remove dogs without owners from streets before they bite and enforce dog owners to walk with their's dog using leash. For big dogs owners also should be enforced to put on dog a muzzle.

If I was a thai parliament member i would pass a law similar to UK, Netherlands or Switzerland about dogs.

    1. Owner take responsibility for actions of his dog, if dog bites and injure people owner go to jail up to 6 years. If dog kills someone owner go to jail up to 14 years. If dog attack someone but owner did not tried to stop the dog he pay 200 000 baht fine.

    2. Every dog should be registered and chipped. Fine for refusing chipping dog 10 000 baht.  Dog collected on street by animal control without chip go to animal control dog house and stay there one week. If no one claimed this dog or adopt this dog, then dog shall be put down.

    3. If owner abandon his dog and put it on street - fine 100 000 baht.

    4. Letting dog go free range roam street without owner 20 000 baht.

    5. Going with dog outside of property with owner but without leash - 5000 baht.

6 Feeding stray dogs 30 000 baht fine.

    7. List of banned dogs types should be created, i would add there pibulls, rothveilers, dogo argentino and more. These dogs should not be allowed to be imported to thailand and have puppies. Every dog from banned list should be sterilized. Always be kept inside property and property should have a warning sign about it. Banned dogs should be allowed to go outside of property on leash, muzzled and put on special control in local police department. Any violation of this point - 100 000 baht fine.

    8. Dogs with weight more than 10 kilos should not be allowed to live in condos.

    9. Dog tax should be introduced. Every owner of registered dog pay it same way as car or motorbike tax. Money from dog tax go to support animal control.

    10. Any dog heavier than 10 kilos requires license. Owning dog heavier than 10 kilos without license - fine 10 000 baht.

I would also promote budget for animal control and let it check streets and collect every dogs on street without leash even if owner is not far. No leash than dog is collected. If owner want dog back than he pay fine according point 4.

I hope sooner or later we will see new dog law here.

I forgot to add before, since your girlfriend was the one that was bitten, why don't you give her a gun (easy to get) and tell her she is the one to go and shoot the neighborhood stray dogs. See how long you have a Thai girlfriend for.

Also, Thailand is not the only country where its illegal to carry a knife. In the UK you cannot carry a penknife with a blade more than 21/2" or 3" and all lock-knives are banned.

Sorry poor Brain, you are just in the wrong country. Go home and shoot something or somebody, you will surely feel much better.

In UK you actually do not need a gun and knife. For many years i was living in UK i did not see even one stray dog. Every dog owner is very polite cause they know if dog bite someone he or she go to jail for up to 6 years. If dog go  out of control even without biting anyone owner can be jailed for up to 6 months. In UK dog laws are very strickt, it is almost impossible to find a flat where you can have a pet even small cat. The only viable option to have dog there is first buy your own house with fence and handle dog there. Even small discomfort from dog to neighbors and people go complain to city council. In London very very difficult to find flat to allow dogs. Rent house to allow dogs almost impossible.

If dog bite someone in UK and owner just stay near and smile without trying to stop the dog, the owner pay fine 20 000 pounds. Every dog has a chip, letting dog go roam street alone almost impossible, dog will be tracked and owner will be fined.

In UK they do kill dogs, dogs collected by animal control stay some time until someone adopt them, if no one adopt they put dog down.

If Thailand had same dog laws as UK i would not complain about it.

With money and effort this problem can be dealt with. Blame the corrupt politicians who have become stinking rich filling their pockets with tax money the last decades. Don't blame the poor dogs and cats.  They are suffering..

No they are not suffering. Stray dogs near my home have lifes better than average thai person. They do not work, only roam streets, bark at pedestrians, sometimes bite, can put shit in private and city parks. They have a lot of fun with zero responsibility for their's actions. They are fed by crazy people 5-6 time per day and cannot even eat all food they get.

Can you go with your dog in city park and let it put shit there? You will be charged 1000 baht for letting you dog inside and 500baht for shit.

Can you have a sex in public place or seat and put your shit near police station? These stray dogs can, they are above the law. If you throw stone and hit stray dog it is animal cruelty, you will be prosecuted. If stray dog bite you, it is ok.

This is complete irresponsibility feeding stray dogs, these people should be fined for ten thousand baht for dumping garbage in illegal places and spreading diseases. They come every day and do the same. If there are some layers here or people who know thai law, are any legal options for prosecute them if i take video or photo?
