I’m not at all upset, it’s a cracking result for the UK’s opposition parties. I have not once complained about it.

The fact that a ‘Confidence’ vote was called is in and of itself a great result for opposition parties. From Johnson’s beloved Latin: Con (Together) + Fido (Trust). Except over 40% of Tory MPs are neither.

We can be sure Johnson will never make an honorable resignation. It’s a great result for the UK’s opposition parties.

No other western leader has self harmed with Brexit. Germany, France, The Netherlands, no where in Scandinavia are facing the levels of or growth in poverty that the UK is facing.

The next hurdle is the upcoming bi-elections, and yes, then the Parliamentary Privileges report. Under the rules, as they stand, Johnson cannot be challenged for another twelve months, but the rules can be changed. The Tories now have a leader who does not have the support of a significant number of his own MPs and dwindling support amongst the public. The economy is getting worse, inflation is getting worse, poverty is getting worse, Brexit is getting worse and Johnson is bereft of any policies to fix any of it. Nobody does an internecine knife fight like the Tories. The clock is ticking.

My side punt was he’d survive and in the near future call an early election. I’m sticking with it.

Johnson has survived the leadership vote 59% to 41%. Now the fun starts.

But will the Tories replace him? I have my doubts. My side bet is Johnson scrapes through a leadership challenge then within a couple of months calls an early General Election. The economy is getting worse, the Tory Brexit mess is biting harder, inflation is getting worse, poverty and the income gap is getting worse, the prospects of Tories winning the next General Election are getting worse. What a right Tory mess this is!

The title of this news could equally be: ”Putin tells the West what he fears most”.

You’ve not heard of VAT, Duty, or Energy Taxes then? Regardless of when housing, education, health services and welfare were brought into place they were all brought about by Liberal/Labour Governments and all have been continually underfunded by Tory Governments. Your claim that the Tories look after the poor with these programs is a misrepresentation of historical and current facts.

The poor pay higher taxes wrt income than any group in society. Welfare benefits brought into being by Labour and Liberal Governments. NHS brought into being by a Labour Government. Public Housing (Addison Act) by a Liberal Government.

Sorry, but it is not ‘an opinion’ that Johnson is a ‘serial liar’, it’s a matter of public record he is.

There’s not many having gammon for lunch these days, most can’t afford it.

It’s also a result of the ‘Democracy is dead/all Politicians are liars/all Politicians are in it for themselves’ narrative. It’s a narrative that discourages participation and voting. Politicians, Politics and indeed democracy has its faults but it’s the only way ordinary people have any chance of getting any form of representation. Participation and voting are the means to be heard, hence the efforts to discourage participation and voting.

I had lunch last week in Nottingham with a former British Thai resident who used to say exactly the same thing. He packed his bags and came back to the UK when he needed the NHS.
