Not sure where you are, but if in Bangkok, the process to get a Certificate Of Resident, they put it in the post. It took Thursday - Tuesday to get it. I went to DLT in Nonthaburi / Pathum Thani / finally Bangkok province to get it. None, I mean none of the DLT took my Yellow book as proof of resident here, they all give me a requirement paper, and they all required a COR from Immigration department. I came from Toronto a few days ago, and Thrifty / Hertz / there would not take a Thai DL unless you have a Thai IDL. They told me it is the law in Canada. For me, I have (3) other valid DLs, but my spouse had only Thai, and she was not able to go on the rental application. At the DLT, you would see a sign stating "Walk-In", but honestly that line is for Thais, because I tried and was sent out the line. My wife and I have learnt our lesson, to always have a valid Thai IDL if traveling with a Thai drivers license.

Let me say, I know of a fact, that Canada & UAE vehicle rental companies will not accept a Thai driver's license to rent a vehicle unless it is accompanied with an IDP. My wife tries and could not drive the car I rented. I would think the same would be asked, if driving a private vehicle and stopped by the cops. How to get one here in Thailand. You would need a: valid Thai driver's license: letter from Immigration of your resident : Doctor's certificate, valid for less that (1) month : Original Passport with long term visa, (2) passport size Photos. Copies of all, and sign all copies. Speaking of Bangkok, not sure the requirements in other provinces. No appointments required, take the above papers to your Department of Land Transportation (DLT). The section that deals with Driver's license and have your documents check, they will hand you a chit to pay ฿505. Then go back to them and hand them the receipt, and just wait. Best to get the 1949 version, validity (1) year, as the the 1968 validity (3) years does not cover various countries to drive. I believe it goes with your passport but you can tell them you need it to drive in blah blah country / countries.

But now are days Thai banks are getting crazy with foreigners and local alike want you to take a photo blah blah, Krungsri even wants you to come in with your passport to take that said photo.

I went to AIS and was told to get OTP from a Thai Bank outside you need data roaming. Not sure if they were trying to sell me a packing. I returned home, disabled AIS, using VPN in my router on a foreign country, I connected to wifi on my mobile, rechecked my IP and location is in that country, opened Krungsri app took awhile to open, guess they were checking my IP, but was in. I have experience with Krungsri if they update their app and required to update your passport information you must go into a branch, unlike Bangkok Bank where you lift up your passport and move one head from side to side, smile etc. Krungsri stated you must visit a branch to do this. They literally lock the account unit I went in.

I will be leaving Thailand for an extended stay away. Since Krungsri will stop Online Banking this coming October 2025. Would there phone app works with a foreign number or foreign internet provider? Also can a customer get OTP using a foreign number? I see in there Mobile app one can put a foreign number, is there another step to register with Krungsri that number?

Does anyone know what the Banking system here calls "Standing Order", to transfer money monthly to family here?

I can remembered reading about 2-3 years ago, that Thailand do not depends on tourist for their GDP. Seems like now is a different story.

Thais generally like gambling, and this would bring poverty to many in this nation. St.Marteen / Curacao in the Caribbean used to only allowed their citizens to frequency their casinos once or twice per month; but people found ways to get around this by forming groups for the days they are not allowed in. This will back fire like weed did in Thailand, where they found youths addicted. Again, only seeing the bottom line, tourist and money. Good luck Thailand.

In a casino you ever wondered why there are no windows, so one cannot keep the track of time. You ever wonder why when you are there you do not feel sleepy, because they pump oxygen below each table. If you take the casino big that day, they will see you sit there for 6-8 hours winning and have not left. They will offer you food, a room to rest, and hopefully they will win you the next day you are awake, because they see you are a gambler.

Many moons ago I was a gambler. I gambled all over. USA : Canada : UK : Netherlands : Singapore: Australia. I lose big, and won big as well. I was not a weekend or cruise ship gambler, I went all out. But one think I did, was always gambled where the returns are high. I would advise same. Why gamble in a country where the money is just 34 Baht to $1 or even less Euro, unless you really not a gambler and just having fun. Also if you win big, I mean big, you cannot get the money out. Thanks all. Understood it fully. (3) months after retirement visa has been granted, nothing to do when one extension will start, and (2) months before going for one's renewal. Cannot drop below 400k in any month. Thanks again, great to note.

Just a quick question, is the 800K in a Thai Bank Account, cannot be touched for (5) months after the issuance of a Retirement Non-O extension, or from the date that the extension is valid from. I know it cannot go below 400k and must be back to 800k (2) months before going for your next extension.
