More tourist, spending less. Not what they were hoping for, but here we are. My opinion... letting tourist stay longer (on 30-60-90 day visa exempt) translates into those people simply stretching their finite budgets (buying their own groceries, etc.) to cover a longer period of stay. They don't necessarily spend at the rate they would if they were only here a few weeks.

Thailand's looking to jump start their flailing economy by taxing more... Great idea 🙄 they better rethink those tax tables and rewrite the foreign tax credit rules or EVERYONE (who can leave) will leave this place. On its face, this type of massive shift in taxation approach looks like something beyond their depths of understanding or capabilities.

Kulaya mentioned plans to expand the tax base by requiring platforms with an income of 1 billion baht or more to report their sources of income.
What does this even mean? "Platforms" with an income of 1 billion baht?

It really is true then, UK citizens are a problem group (broadly speaking). Even your own government has to issue a warning 😂 which of course will be interpreted as a challenge to behave worse 😂 does this mean all the whining about Brit bashing will end (seeing as there is now confirmation of the truth by your own government).

Indians. That's the new target market for Thai tourism authorities. Any country with 1B+people always looks attractive... filling the tourist void left by the lack of Chinese.

Thais tend to like those foreigners more who are just plain tourist because they tend to go with the flow (even when it's against their own better judgement), and then simply leave... Long stay expats (and those here just for the partying) are a different lot... and Thais love calling them out (by nationality it seems) for their bad behavior (which there is no shortage; and a lot of it alcohol fueled)... seems certain expats/foreigners have a tendency to grow tired of the constraint frustrations associated with living in a very different (sometimes unusual) country. Makes you wonder why some choose to come/stay when it seems they might be happier else where.

Such a well thought out suggestion...ask the airline that would be responsible for her. Incapacitated passengers are not allowed to fly without someone with them to act as their carer.
When I said have the son escort her though the airport, I was referring to the entire trip (end to end), though to final destination. May all be moot if her condition is respiratory or heart related and it's dangerous for her to fly.

OP clearly states she has decided to go back to UK, but is unable to fly due to her current physical condition. Awaiting medical clearance to fly.
Problem is that she (and her family) left it way too long. People do this, they keep trying to hang on here with insufficient funds and no way of meeting health care needs, apparently just hoping nothing will happen. Inevitably something does happen, and the need to go back becomes urgent but at that point they may be unable to travel due to illness.
Seen it a lot oer the years.
Yeah, in a way they have only themselves to blame. Sad.

Her son will just need to support her until she dies. Sorry to say. They waited way to long and now have no good choices. Why they waited so long allowing it to come to this is anyone's guess

At 87 and a UK citizen, she'd be better off going back to the UK and entering into the welfare system. There's no hope hear unless she starts begging and this just not right either

Thais facilitate creation of nominee company... foreigners get visas, buy land/homes, run businesses... Company gets exposed as illegitimate, foreigners get deported, and Thais keep the land/property/businesses (seized assets) for themselves. It's a brilliant model... Thais get paid on both ends... Thai citizens and officials collect setup fees, and the seized assets revert back to Thailand - who can sell them a second time. But they (authorities) can't not seem to stop what they claim they don't like 🤔 because they actually like it 🤑🤑🤑

In a way, Thais and Russian are kindred spirits... Both are notoriously corrupt and both love a good scam.

When was there an extradition order? Call me names as much as you like, but back up your statements with substance, please.
Now you are just being intentionally obtuse. You have no idea what you are talking about. The AGs office and the police chief (and many others) have all been implicated in a cover up. Charges against this privileged killer where even once dropped, extradition orders and red notices stalled and delayed to no affect of justice. All to ensure Jr. would NOT face justice. WAKE UP!

Did the child leave the country with his passport or not? If he left with his passport, then what help did he need? Maybe it is not me who needs to wake up 🙂
No, it's only you. Only a dolt would believe that this cop killer, at large for 10 years, has not used his family's influence and privilege to escape justice. Go back to bed.

Are you happy to be held responsible for the actions of your children, siblings or parents? Why should this parent?
I see. So you are under the delusion that his family had nothing to do with Jr. getting away from authorities. Got it. Wake Up!

By March 2025, foreign retirees and other expats in Thailand will be required to file income tax returns for the 2024 tax year, marking a significant shift in the nation’s approach to taxing foreign residents.
Significant shift 😂 Expats have ALWAYS had to pay taxes on assessable income 🥱🥱🥱 They changed (closed) one tax loophole to broaden the base, but you still only pay on assessable income. For the love of all that's holy, relax.

Tax day is tax day. Even for the majority of all Thais who never pay any Income tax. Nothing new. Income tax has always been self reported, and still is, nothing changed (and still not linked to immigration). As with most countries, if you have no accessible income, there is nothing to file as you owe no tax. Same as it ever was.

The lack of self awareness has reached new levels. And that's saying a lot when talking about Thailand. The man kills a cop and flees the country to evade justice. As far as I'm concern the entire red bull family can pissoff.

Energy and water infrastructure here is sub-par almost everywhere. And it's only going to get worse. Being crushed under the weight of poor planning and investment, and unrestrained tourist and expat growth.

We are likely going to see a lot more of this as Thailand flings open the doors to all comers. Makes me think overstay is really not that big a concern for Thailand authorities. Reality is sometimes stranger than fiction.

Thai Tourism Revenue to Hit 3 Trillion Baht, Falls Short of Goal

It's a 15% shortfall, certainly not de minimis, but better than missing the goal by 20%, sure.
