Live and Let Die. Had to watch it again in this age of hyper-political correctness. The over-the-top racism and stereotyping makes me wonder if/when it's going to get the same treatment that Gone With The Wind just received. Clifton James' acting as Sheriff Pepper is the epitome of the stereotypical Louisiana redneck. The only movie that comes to mind as being even more politically incorrect when viewed through the lens of today's sensitivities is Blazing Saddles. ????

45, in his speeches, like to bark about his 'Greatest Ever' (sic). The fact is, fully 70% of all quarters since the end of WWII have topped GDP growth under 45, so only in his mind is bottom 30% 'best ever'. With the current Recession/Depression likely to erase all GDP gains since 2016, he will leave office, at best, having achieved zero growth.

 

History shows the Dems are better at Capitalism than the Repubs.  There has never been a Repub POTUS who did not preside over the start of a Recession, going back all the way to Lincoln. Not even one. Dems have had several POTUSs who never presided over a Recession. The stock market performs better on average under Dems, too, according to the historical data.

 

Even recent history shows a stark difference between Dems and Repubs.

 

Clinton inherited a Recession from Bush I, but he turned over growth that dwarfs anything since (including 45's Fake Greatest Ever), as well as a budget surplus.

 

Obama inherited the worst economy since the 1930s, 10% UE, a banking system and an insurance industry on the verge of total collapse, but he handed 45 growth, de-levered and stable banks, solid insurers, a soaring stock market, 4.8% UE, and repayment of bailout funds given to banks, autos and insurers. The US Taxpayer even made a profit.

 

45 is going to leave President Biden 10%+ UE, a Recession or Depression, an exploding deficit, and an out-of-control pandemic.

 

Under 45 farmers had to be handed $25 billion plus to aid them after 45 destroyed their export markets with his bungled trade policies. Unlike banks, autos and insurers under Obama, those farmers will never repay the US Taxpayer. The word for that kind of govt aid that 45 handed farmers is "Socialism".  Because of the bungled response to Covid, the Federal Reserve is now bailing out zombie firms, even buying junk corporate bonds. More 45 Socialism. No Capitalism in sight.

 

45, in a mere 3.5 years, has grown the National Debt by 37%, from $19.3 trillion when he took over to $26.5 trillion today. With the current Recession/Depression  likely to erase any GDP gains since 20 January 2016, the US will have gotten ZERO growth, but paid more than $7 trillion for it.  No wonder 45 called himself "The King of Debt". It's also no wonder why he's had 6 bankruptcies, all of which were thrust on to the US Taxpayer.

 

Capitalism truly is a wonderful thing, and it has contributed to making the US what it became and will be again once competent leadership returns. Adam Smith would tip his hat to the Democrats who have presided over it so smartly, but he would furrow his brow over how poorly 45 and Repubs have done with it.

When I first came to Asia back in 1983, I was told/learned that you never sit in the first 6 rows of a bus if you want to survive the accident that was more than likely going to happen. They had these little TVs in the front playing KungFu movies non-stop. I was always too terrified to sleep. ????

Well, to be fair, he did get all excited about the Belgian Malinois military service dog, Conan, that got Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, even though he was afraid to pet/touch him because he didn't want to get germs. He's nothing if not consistent. ???? Dog germs bad, coronavirus hoax. ????

And then there are the Eagles. Here's one of Hotel California from the original band with Randy Meisner, then one 20 years later acoustic with Timothy B Schmit on the bass. I still think the Don Felder/Joe Walsh dueling lead is one of the finest pieces of guitar work I've ever heard.
