The letter from your brother and friends would not be acceptable. Needs to be 3 sources so bank account is ok. Council Tax can be in joint names as I did that. I also used water bill as gas/electric company wouldn’t do joint names. Get 3 sources sorted straightaway and keep 6 items spread over the 30 months of the visa.

    Thanks,

I'll bear that in mind when I can get to the UK. Due to a stroke, I may require medically assisted transport by a scheduled flight. Hopefully that can be arranged with only a few days notice

There is no stipulation how long you need to stay with your brother we stayed 1 night

I had already sorted a place to rent and moved in there whilst we found a house to buy so within 3 months we just informed immigration where we were

Save all your mail and put some bills into both names to make sure you get the second 30 months

Thanks for that advice. I'll need to find somewhere furnished to rent. I'll put my current account into both names and take out separate mobile phone contracts. Would letters from my brother or friends  addressed to both of us inviting us for a meal or drinks be acceptable? Depending on where we move to, the rental contract may have to be in my sole name. can council tax, electric and gas bills be in joint names or one name only?

    Thanks,

  3. Hi all,

I intend to take my wife to the UK on a settlement at some point in the next 3 years or so. I know that I need to provide proof that we have somewhere to stay when we arrive. I'll probably get this from my brother if he's still alive (74 at present)How long do we need to stay with him before finding ourselves somewhere to live? Problems - I have had a stroke, which has reduced my mobility considerably. His house is on 3 floors and we'll likely be sleeping on the top floor. At present, I cannot manage stairs but hopefully will be able to do so within the next 3 years. I'll need to rent a ground floor flay somewhere and will likely need to carry a wheelchair ramp with me. My brother's next door neighbour is a joiner so he could make this for me  I hope that vy that time the worst of covid will be behind us

    Thanks,

  4. Apologies if this gas been covered before but a quick search did not appear to answer m question. I had a  severe stroke 4 years ago and typing and using search functions are very difficult for me. I had been trying to download digital music from Amazon but kept getting error messages. After speaking to THREE different people on the Amazon help desk, I was told after half an hour that the digital music MP3 files are country specific so cannot be ordered if living in Thailand. It was suggested that I should try Amazon prime but again that is not available in Thailand.

Would using a proxy server in the UK help and if so can anyone recommend a good proxy to use? I am able to download YouTube videos and convert them to MP3 files but it is really albums I am looking for.

    Thanks,

  5. Thanks for the link to the video.  Very interesting . I'll see what my urologist has to say next month. He mentioned muscle relaxants, which co-incidentally my neurologist prescribed for me to help me sleep better. They so seem to be having some effect though too early to say whether they're helping me pee less at night.

At BPH, this urologist is well recommended

If that is not whom you have been seeing, suggest you change and ask for him specifically

Thanks for that, I have an appointment again for June 14 with a Dr. Sitee(spelling?). As I have had a couple of urine infections recently. he wants to check that the infection has gone. I also had a pws check in April and my level was in the normal range

On Monday, I go to see my cardiologist for a (hopefully)  routine check up. He wants to do a blood test to check my liver function as the pills I was  taking can damage it, H reduced the strength I was taking. I drink very little alcohol these days anyway but did see on a supposed medical site that a small amount of re wine is food for the prostate, I'll ask him about this when I see him Next Berries, strawberries, raspberries (are these available in Thailand?)blackberries and blueberries are also good for the prostate. Something else to ask about. I do eat fresh strawberries when in season along with melon, grapes and papaya etc.

I've tried just about every known and "unknown" herb and whatever for BPH, and I have found that Beta Sitosterol seems to work for me. I should say that it works well enough for me not to have to worry about peeing a lot during the day, and probably getting up just once a night on occasion for a toilet visit.

IMO this is a very overpriced supplement, which includes a few other ingredients which have on occasion been touted to help those with BPH.

I have only just this month ordered a combination of Beta Sitosterol and other plant sterols in one capsule from iHerb, to replace the batch that I have almost finished, to see how this one compares to the ones I have been taking.

I've been soldiering on with BPH and Beta Sitosterol for a few years now and will probably end up having some sort of procedure done on the prostate, although I have already had a TURP, although for now I'm managing it.

I see Beta Sitosterol  is available from Lazada at a far cheaper price than the drug I'm currently paying. which is a lot less than the price charged by the hospital!!! How many pills in a bottle please?

    Thanks,

As written I suspect "Postogenix" is a misspelling.

    -> "ProstaGenix"?

    Can you confirm?

I think you're right. I was typing from memory but regardless I am far from convinced that it's as good as claimed though a surprising number of people give it a great review. I do wonder how many of these are fake !

Prostate problems do not "work themselves out" on their own.

The correct spelling is ProstaGenix. And the main ingrediant is beta-sitosterol. There are many brands of that around; this particular high priced product just adds a bunch of minerals and vitamins to it to justify a separate patent.

It will definitely not effect a cure and is not a "wonder drug". but it gives some symptomatic relief to some people.  See https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10796740/

If you want to try beta-sitosterol, you can get it in Thailand from Shoppee or order from iHerb

This aside, it does not sound like your condition is being managed very well and I suggest you change urologists or at least get another opinion. there are many different drug combinations that can be tried.

Who are you seeing at BPH? And how long have you been on your current medications? Is the urologist aware that your symptoms have not improved?

I only recently changed to BPH from Rayong as living in Ban Chang, it is easier to get to Pattaya now that the new motorway is open. I don't know the name of the urologist and as I am in a wheelchair, I leave the control of all medication to my wife. I have an appointment to see the urologist some time next month so I'll bring up the lack of improvement. Last night wasn't too bad. I had a pee just before going to bed around 9.40 pm As peeing into a bottle at night is nopt convenient, I have to wear a nappy. I first woke up around 01.15 but fell asleep again until about 02.45when I called my carer to change my nappy. I then slept till around 04.00 before waking up for a pee and again around 06.30 before getting up to get washed around 8.00

  10. Apologies if this has been covered before but a stroke has left me severely disabled and makes it very hard to use the  search function. About 2 years ago, I was diagnosed as having an enlarged prostate. I am currently being treated as an outpatient at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital but still have to pee every hour or two.

I have seen on Face book a drug Postogenix which claims to solve prostate problems more or less overnight. Naturally, I am very sceptical about this but has anyone here heard about this so called wonder drug and actually tried it? I shall ask the doctor treating me when I see him again next month though it seems that they cannot send this drug to Thailand. Maybe Thai Customs suspect that this is a scam?

    Thanks,

I've always wondered about this.  If a long-stay expat has something like stroke and is incapacitated, and the money they saved for their extension is used for their long-term or end-of-life medical care - then what?
Assume the expat is incapable of taking care of their own affairs.

That's me . I was planning to take my wife to Scotland on a settlement visa but had a stroke before the process could be completed. Now, I can only walk short distances with a cane and need a wheelchair to go any distance could probably apply on the basis of income though that would require the use of an agent. !!

  12. Ok Thanks.

Next time, I go to the hospital, I'll ask about a certificate saying I'm unfit to fly. I was planning on taking my wife to Scotland on a settlement visa in 3 years but would likely require medical assistance to fly as I need help to go to the toilet etc. On top of the stroke, I also have heart disease (under control at present)and an enlarged prostate, which if you ignore the pun is really peeing me off big time.

  13. at present, I do my annual extension based on money in bank though from June, I could do this based on income apart from all the extra hooks you have to jump through. I could also apply based on being married to a Thai but again money in  the bank is simpler, I believe,

I had a severe stroke 4 years ago. Whilst it is not necessary just now, could I get at some point in the future an annual extension on medical grounds?. I have sufficient funds at present to cover outpatient expenses. In addition, I also have a Thai ID card.

    Thanks,

Sounds good, but as I have wills drafted in separate countries I would rather have copies registered in the safe hands of law firms with specific instructions rather than my missus after my passing running around with a bit of A4 paper and a video. Cheers.

One VERY important point to bear in mind is that when you do a new Will in one country please ensure that you ONLY revoke prior Wills relating to that country and NOT all Wills as that will cause havoc with your assets in other countries. I have seen this happen and it was a nightmare to sort it out, including some minor perjury A stroke has made typing very difficult or I would go into more details

  15. Let me clarify a point here please. I entered Thailand on a multiple entry non O visa on 2005 and have extended it for 365 days ever since then. Do I need health insurance when I next extend this in 2 or 3 months? Due to a stoke 2 years ago, it is unlikely I could get insurance now or if I could, the cost would be prohibitive. Also a friend is visiting Thailand for 4 weeks later this year on a visa exempt basis. He has just been diagnosed with lung cancer. He does not plan on taking out insurance. Could this give him a problem ehen trying to enter the country?

    Thanks,

You don't need to be in the U.K. to file a will. Select a U.K. lawyer and it can be done from here.

Correct, but please be very careful if doing a UK Will, that you don't inadvertently revoke your Thai Wil. It's very easily done. Also your UK Will should specify that it on;y relates to your assets in the UK or outside Thailand.
